  1. Fred was a legend, me and him had a mutual friend, dick hawkins, sadly dick is dead now too........ Fred as I understood wasn't into running dogs as he concentrated on catching rabbits, not the dog.......
  2. I have to admit my whippet pup is growing too fast..... The wife works in a school, so I have been walking to meet her from work..... Which means loads of kids and their often yummy mummies wanting to stroke the pup......
  3. Can you next time get a pic of the good looking woman stroking yours or her own puppies.....
  4. Pointless, and it must also be bloody hard work to muzzle a ferret....... I did once know someone who came by a jill ferret that the moron who had her before had snapped her canine teeth in half using a pair of pliers..... If I recall correctly someone went and gave him some amateur dentistry so he knew what it felt like......
  5. Good luck with her, I am stood typing this shouting no at my 5 month old whippet for digging up the back garden.......
  6. A lof service dogs these days police and military are imports from holland and germany, the kc has created hd (or at least made it a lot worse) so yes a lot are malinois or imported gsd that I know of.
  7. yeh comp the bitches do look like that , prob the size of a male malinois, the males like Buck a racey gsd but all of them can shift and agile, they are very supple for big dogs on a related but unrelated topic. a work mate of the wife, she had a GSD that had to be put to sleep a few months ago. she has bought a new puppy this last week. Its a GSD x Great Dane.........its only about 10 weeks old and already the size of a shetland pony........think when its finished it will make your Buck look little
  8. Bird, those first cross gsd/greyhounds look like a lean malinois. Interesting cross and I am sure these pups will pick up rabbits and be very easy to train.
  9. Just to add I think its a whippet thing, the dog I had before who was similarly dangerous was a 3/4 grey 1/4 whippet..... She would slide tackle rabbits and hares, that's the only way I can describe her strike technique......
  10. Sorry...... I had a dog like that and fear I may have another now in my whippet pup
  11. Am I reading right you are considering a 3/4 collie, 1/4 greyhound? Would be very collie like so easy to train with kindness and retrieving should come naturally. Would need a lot of stock breaking as collies are very sheep focused. But should be a good and useful lamp dog for rabbits.
  12. Ivebeen That black and white whippet looks like my whippet pup..... Very similar markings
  13. This is a great thread, greatcoat lines are in my whippet.....
  14. To expand on my last, its also easier therefore to get a new good bloodline by using a famous stud dog than finding a pup from a famous bitch, the pups are limited but a stud is fairly easy to use
  15. Its a dangerous precedent if people start offering money, some farmers (most) are tight money grabbers. I am a generous person so cards and an occasional bottle of wine/whisky isn't beyond me. But its pest control I offer and I'm good at it. If I was paying I would want exclusivity and a lot of game. It has creeped in with rough and pigeon shooting, don't let it creep in with rabbitting
  16. On my phone so can't read the advert on that ..... But can make out the pic of the bitch, she looks like she has just had a litter too
  17. Uk dog forum may be a better place to ask, it is predominately used by whippet racers both ped and non ped
  18. That first dog, I would say collie in there as well as a touch of beddy
  19. Oh and regards throwing to the sire or dam. Looking at my kids, my lad is big and looks like me, but he is very like his mam in personality. My daughter is good looking and like her mam , but is a raging pyscho, my wife says that she is like me? In fact my eight year old lass has a few times got the better of her 15 year old 6'06" brother in a scrap Genetics are a funny thing and you don't know what your going to get in looks, personality or ability....
  20. I see it slightly differently. If you own a bitch, she can have a few litters, so could be the mother of say 50 pups maximum (that's a rough average of 5 litters of , but if that bitch is to prove herself first, and is also given time to develop, that would mean the first half or so of her life she would be training, developing, allowed to learn, then earning a reputation by proving herself. So she is 6 or so and then can maybe have 2 litters so in fact produces 5-12 pups. Where as a dog of the same age, training, development and ability can father hundreds and hundreds of pups and
  21. Your first post didn't explain it very well and I thought you were a bit of a messer, when you explained you took him on to help a mate out and that you already have a bitch doing the same job that changes the story a fair bit. Hope you find him the home he needs
  22. as someone who has just bought a whippet puppy i loved watching them videos. here is my pup (4 months old now) running to the wife across the park
