Don't think it's everybody online, I think it could be 'most' trades if they had there head screwed on right, labourers on £150 a day round here, machine drivers pull anything from 2-250 a shift, plumbers charging grand a pop to instal a boiler that takes a day, the list is endless, brickies on £22 a metre block and 750 per thou brick, the money's out there to be earnt

Nearly always looking for blokes, hence we have to pay the money to get them and hopefully keep hold of em.

Oh I ain't slating you pal, I'm just surprised, when you said mega money you couldn't turn down I was expecting more than £250 a day. I mean jeez, some of my blokes are on that here, and any good trade could easily save 10k in 3 months, that's only £110 ish a day. personally I think the country, views, wildlife and culture are priceless and that's what would attract me to it.
  4. I'd be knocking that gas fire out and in with the log burner pal, shame to see good fuel getting wasted like that. the rest of you boys is a bit slow I'm afraid, this winters logs were sawn, split and stacked two years ago ?

So you travelled all the way for £250, feck me I know brickies, machine drivers, plumbers plasterers, roofers......wouldn't be happy with that money here.
  6. Nice one mate, that's the way to thin them out, keep at them now as you won't be getting any kip once the birds are in
  7. Please mate, next week would be perfect for me, I'm about set up now
  8. Sounds spot on mate, they will certainly do the job for him, but I need decent grub at the end of it so while he is just happy with any old pigs, I'm not ! very handy he's a butcher, can you find out if he's got any ready to go ? How many you getting
  9. No idea mate, I know all about husbandry, but nothing about individual breeds and best meat/fat ratios, I've plenty of farmer mates who do pigs, but they all do intensive rearing and not what I'm after, I want to get some real flavour back into the meat.
  10. Hello mate, hope your well. To me it's all about flavour, just can't seem to get decent pork now, not like I used to remember it anyway, however, I don't particularly like loads and loads of fat, am sure it would get used though, might have to look into the x breeds a bit more then. Sounds like the SB x LW could be a good cross (I sound like the dog men on here now). Been bloody nosey, how muck h you paying for your weaners, and are there any more available ? I really don't mind when they are ready, I've got freezers and quite happy if they take a bit longer, just want decent bi
  11. Yeah your right about sunburn, but we don't suffer that nearly as bad as you will, and I will have a shelter in the field anyways as they will have to run through the winter into early part of next year at a guess.
  12. Don't cover the traps, makes them feel enclosed and they seem to be wary of that. Give it time, let the traps settle down, don't walk upto them unless you have to, drive round or use glasses to check them, if you have to walk up to the traps try and do it at a time when they are least active so your not spooking them every time. I also found carrots not the best bait, cabbage works best for me, they are used to eating green stuff, an orange carrot does not instantly look like food to a wild rabbit, and an old timer told me cabbage gives off a real strong smell for them. In the r
  13. After a few years umming and arring I have decided to take the plunge (mainly as my Nieghbour has a paddock he wants clearing) so to the learned ones on here about them, what you reckon, I would have preferred to get them a little earlier than now, but hey ho, that's the hand I been dealt so have to work with it. I know about fencing, water, mud, mess, shelter, etc, but what's the favourite eating breed, I can lay my hands on a few GOS weaners next week, or I know of some Berkshire weaners, and I have heard a smallholder I know has some large white x landrace, so out of those what's
  14. As per all the above mate, I would swerve it. I am the type to try anything, I've had hundreds, if not thousands of guns, I like a change, I looked into one, but even I was put off by the problems they have, save the money towards something else and not have the headache is my opinion.
  15. No, mine does the same thing, it's weird getting used to it, and feels like it's blinded you for a while
  16. I can't remember exactly, I think it was reliability but could be wrong, was over a year and many guns ago ?
  17. I came very close to doing a deal on one of those against a rifle I was selling, but had a few bad reports about them and didn't want to end up with a lemon so walked away.
  18. Agreed, as much as I love my thermal, the Nv still gets a lot of use, different tools for different jobs/occasions.
  19. Never. I've got both jimmy and the thermal is awesome, but it does have drawbacks as well, in certain conditions it's totally blind, damp wet evenings for example, if there is a lot of moisture in the air you cannot see your hand in front of you mate. The other problem with thermal is lining up clear shots in undergrowth, trees, long grass etc, with Nv you can see all the obstructions, thermal cannot. If I had a quid for everytime ive clipped a branch, bramble etc etc, I would be a happy bunny.
  20. Agreed, mega money even when you use them regularly, but I was referring to a n550 pulsar night vision unit, can be had for Ito £400 I do have thermal and love it, but took some soul searching to take the plunge
  21. You really need a press, and a scratcher, I am going to give it a good go this year as my trees are also bursting, bought the press last yr but no chance to try it as yet.

    Cape Verde

That's where I went, the hotel was top notch, the beaches are lush, the sea is lovely (but full of sharks) (didn't stop me swimming) its in the middle of nothing, but if you go down the jetty when the boats come in you will see an old school local bartering for fish going on, they even butcher/fillet them on the jetty and sell bits and pieces, it was an eye opener and well worth a visit.

I went a few years back for the marlin fishing and it was excellent, the beach fishing for shark is also good. not much there, but depending where your staying the hotels are 5 star and lay everything on that your average tourist would want. If it wasn't such a hotspot for fishing I wouldn't go again, once was enough for me as a holiday, I will be going back but only for the fishing ?
  24. I hate those screens, my mate came out with me one and he had one, I could see his face half a field away ! He only used it once more after borrowing my n550, I wouldn't touch the photon either, I tried one and hated it.
  25. Ditto, I sold mine after 2 weeks and went back to the pulsar.
