It's to make the armed forces more diverse and inclusive...........(I actually felt nauseous saying that !). Actually, should we still say 'armed forces' ? Sounds a bit hostile, doesn't it ? Probably an implication of violence in it, too ! I mean, ideas that that might put some people off applying, if they thought that they might get shouted at or ordered around - wouldn't want to cause offence, after all. Maybe we could just enlist more ethnics, women and other minorities, irrespective of their suitability ? As long as they can make their own placards, that should be enough. They wouldn'

When I was a boy, all our front doors opened straight onto the pavement - no front gardens. It was a poor neighborhood, but it had standards ! Every house kept 'their' bit of the street clean and tidy.......litter picked up (by the kids, on the order of their mothers), swept daily and anyone making a mess was taken to task ! Net curtains were kept white and windows washed at least weekly. My sainted mum says she knows what's wrong with this country in general and the snowflakes in particular, and she's never given me reason to doubt her in the past. She puts it simply as "nobody cares what anyone thinks of them anymore !" Those of us of a certain age may remember the grand old lady of the Dales, and her memorable TV appearances. She was a true character - a tough and determined lady, who faced adversity that would have most of us crying for our mum's !
