They weren't fighting the Nazis in WW1.. Maybe they were simply playing along to help prevent a repeat of the horrors of the great war? You are right to say things would still have been very fresh in the mind, but do you you not think reconciliation and mutual respect were more important when millions of lives are hanging in the balance? I'd have thought it even more important to be on good terms after so much devastation a few decades prior.

i agree that in 1938 they would not have known what was to come but only 20 years prior to this they where mustard gassing are troops in the trenches and all those footballers would have lost fathers or uncles and family in that war.so in that respect ,it does seem odd to be giving a nazi saluteThey weren't the only ones to use gas, phosgene was responsible for 85% of all chemical weapon deaths in WW1 and it was invented by us.

Personally I got no problem with halal slaughter.. The cruelest, inhumane thing about slaughter in general is the way the animals are all piled onto trucks and herded into one big killing factory. As far as animal welfare goes IMO the best thing for them would be that they were slaughtered at source on the farm so the process is done and over as quickly as possible.

I'd double check first, I only briefly scanned the licence. It does say Herring Gull on number 2 but it might just be to do with removing nests and eggs!

Herring gulls should be on the general licence. They used to be until a few years ago, but now it's only the lesser black back-backed gull for some obscure reason. It's the herring gulls that cause all the grief. Not checked this years Welsh General Licence but the Herring Gull was on the last one I checked..
