    Wearing gloves for gralloching is now a must , all venison carcasses put into the food chain will need a ticket to make them traceable should there be a problem .There is a difference between butchering the animal when it has already been skinned , and when it’s still in the jacket , you now can’t have carcasses with the jacket on and prepared or ready to be meat in the same chiller .Like everything times and practices change .. Ive often kept carcasses for a month or more with no mould showing , and certainly not an inch thick ..Treating the carcass properly before it goes in the chill

    It’s a bit different here mate , a fox was seen a couple of times near the town and it made the local rag ..? mind a little bit south of javea they have more boar than foxes by country mile ..

    I’ll miss that this year ! ..being out mid October when the rut is in full swing watching the big boys jousting is special , sat out and watched them , many times declining a shot , just to see the going big boys having a go .. Used to make me laugh when you’d have a few prickets trying to lord it over the ladies , only for a young buck to put the wind up them and chase them off , just as he was trying it on a mature buck would see him off double quick , before the real big boy appeared and he would disappear as quick as he appeared., .very occasionally you would witness to good bucks get

    Spoke to my pal today who’s looking after one of my places , he said they were going at it the weekend .He knocked over a couple of prickets and see a couple of older bucks ..None of the big boys has shown up yet but it’s early days ..

    I’m using a 129gr home load that a pal of mine loads for me ..it costs me about a pound a round ..it’s accuracy is spot and stopping power is perfect for the fallow , and with minimal carcass damage .Having shot hundreds of fallow with both the .308& .243 the 6.5 x55 swede is my absolute perfect round ..Truth is it’s been around for a long long time for a reason , it does the job ..

    6.5 x55swede fan as well , been my go to rifle for a few years now ...fits the bill for accuracy and stopping abilities...

    I’m not sure she’d meet the required level of interest for our resident caller of of death to mark her passing ....and I make him right ! .. Some jobs should be left to the professionals .....?

    They recon two of the happiest days in your life is when you buy a boat , and when you sell it ..... The second of those days won’t be far of with me ....fcuk you can shovel some dough into a boat ! .enjoy mate ..

    Earliest I’ve heard them is 21st sept , that was a few years back and it seemed to stop for a couple of weeks before starting again in early Oct ...has it been cold up your way SL ..?

    As kids we used to go down to goudhurst in Kent , to us as kids it was one big adventure ...Sadly by the time we were ten it was all but finished , although as you drive into Goudhurst there are still a few of the old huts to be seen .Strange that fifty years later I ended up helping out on a big shoot that took in most of the land that was once hop gardens , you could still see where the little Hawkhurst branch line train ran through to the villages ..reckoned to be the prettiest line in the country .. Always bought a couple of hop bines of a little farm in Goudhurst to hang in the barn ..D
