  1. Classic situation Sid, some kids fly on one to one lessons if they enjoy the teaching (and respect the teacher ?) others do well in a class enviroment. Though it really don't matter how you start any kid, the most important part is keeping it up.
  2. They still teach swimming in primary school BUT how often is both determined by budget and if the staff see it as worth while. At least it can be just for one term per year (5/6 weeks), which, though better than nothing, won't really turn none swimmers into compitent swimmers, especially for open water. Same with senior school, at my daughters school, swimming isn't on any sports curriculum, so if the kids were struggling in primary, they've got no chance there... It's a travesty for what is a life skill...
  3. There is a way of using one piece or rope/string round the neck of the dog, without a collar and using it to slip. I've seen it done and it worked brilliantly but i'd need to see it again to do it. If your not a fan of a collar on your dog when its out, this could be ideal.
  4. I've got a couole of Strong Stuff's slip leads, which i use mostly now. When i ran bull crosses i always used a good quality leather lead with an 'o' ring in the handle to shorten it. I'd double the lead, thread it up through the collar, holding the trigger clip in my hand and the middle of the lead through the collar on my finger to slip. I found it much more comfortable than nylon slips for 'stronger' dogs.
  5. I'd agree with that Al, Dee produced some cracking dogs. There is a photo of him on here, from years back. I've just spent the last hour trying to find it but couldn't...
  6. Just had it confirmed by a mate who seen and knew both sire and dam mate. In my opinion the dog must have been out of decent gear whichever his sire. What he was capable of in the field and how his line, when kept tight produced was proof of that and that's all that matters imo. Edited to add, just a ten a penny 80's 90's bull cross ?
  7. Are we talking about Baz Gorton from Padiham..?
  8. Pye was out of a Reed dog called Max BUT it wasn't Scotsmans Max... It was a big dog, that's pet name was Max. Back then there was a lot of Reed dogs in Wigan and surrounding areas. The old Wigan T&L Club ran very successful Pitbull classes at their shows and half the field had a breakstick in their back pocket. Some very real deal dogs there. Pye's sire was one of those. Maggie was his greyhound dam.
  9. Jude that would be great if you could mate. Even Pye's owner(s) never had many photo's of him. ?
  10. Sharper image of Pye, the photo was taken in Scotland, when he was on loan for stud there. I think there's one or two other pictures of him on here but they are way back.
  11. Lulu was a grandaughter of Pye, double bred on both sides i think. ?
  12. Yep, much easier on the fingers than twine ?
  13. That looks fantastic ??
  14. I think Busher knew what he was out of and it has come up on here but i can't remember.
  15. I think he was mate. Can't remember what he's out of or if he was any good. Seen him at a show about 12 years ago.
  16. With that quilt who cried over his talcum powder ?
  17. Your right mate, she was... Dee, Spike, Custard and Ice were others out of them. It's that bloody long ago i'm getting mixed up ??
  18. Pye's litter sister 'was' called Custard ?
  19. Excellent, that all looks fantastic, especially that corn. I'm way behind you for a harvest as yet, can only gather runners, carrots and that cabbage, though i should of covered it, as the outer leaves have taken a pasting. Had a nice harvest of 'first earlies' Pentland Javelin. They've been lovey eating. My seconds will be a couple of weeks yet. Though i think i mentioned, i'm growing spuds in bags next year. It'll give me more space for more brassicas, which i want to grow.
  20. Really pleased with my sweetcorn so far and the parsnips in it's shadow seem to be thriving. The outdoor tomato's are doing ok, just need to ripen up now. Grown on the original garden fence i dug up when creating the plot.
  21. ? A few good days ratting in company, especially if you've got a couple of specks on the same place, will usually see any terrier sticking with the group because thats where the action is. Seen it work with a few 'bought in' terriers over the years, two of which were Plummers.
  22. Took us 3 series to confirm what we seen in that first episode... It's shite.!
  23. While i'm the first to shout against any horse cruelty, I watched that on the day it happened and never seen anything that should lead to the shitestorm that followed... Though i will say this, the pressure got to her, she blew it, not the horses refusal. She lost it on board, got all panicky and her face showed it all. She had the time to re-group that horse and go at it again but she had, sadly, lost it. The sadness is, that it seemed she didn't know that the horse had flaws and she sure didn't have the strength to work through them... It was a low point of the games for me bu
  24. Oh jesus, your talking my kinda lingo... But i do love a drop of red to wash it down with...?
