why aren't they that popular then ??? its because they are one of the most useless dogs ever created, bred only to be a showdog never a working dog, they are prone to cancers, are often deaf or directionly deaf, suffer with ear problems, lack breathing ability and have very poor eyesight,so yes they will create the ultimate strong lurcherNOT,im not being a no it all ive had bull terriers for many years now yes that is there name not english bull terriers, and they will work with terriers always seem obsessed with holes for some reason,i love these dogs with a passion but as pet guard dogs but i

Would totaly agree GTE apart from one thing, never again will I march for the CA. The've had my time and my money. It always should have been a media campaign but the CA were too dumb to realise this is the way to win over Jo public, as far as I can see it'd be too little too late now, that was a one window opportunity and we lost, big time!! I hope the top brass 'boys' in the CA used that money wisley, climbing ladders in the gentlemens clubs in Londons Mayfair!!

Women showing dogs in working terrier shows!
Bosun11 replied to Won every show in england.'s topic in General Talk
W.E.S.I.E., I see where you are coming from, there are plenty of women showing obviousley showy dogs BUT there are enough blokes doing the same thing!! With a user name as yours I'll bet you never put a dog in a ring but get on here and moan because you didn't see any grafted stuff at a working dog show? If thats the case then do sommat about it, instead of whinging on here, as the only way to see working terriers in a working terrier show is for folk who do work 'em to put 'em in!!!! Too many condem working dog shows as full of posers and they are BUT it'll never change untill people get -
Do you know where abouts this dog is from or who has him, maybe his sire?

I'm in the market for some new galloshes at the moment, so i'll come in handy to know whats out there, seen all the Le Chameau & Agile stuff but was wonderin if theres anythin else out there. TimmyK off here has recently gone and got himself a pair of 'Cobras', says they are snake proof and if we end up in a field full of snakes, i'm fecked!!! He read the write ups on 'em and it took a while to locate 'em but he did. Got to admit, they look sturdy and comfy enough but though he says they are a welly, they don't look like your average pair, time and fields will tell.

One....... It's called the Lakeland terrier. Though if you mean how many different terrier types come from the Lakes & North Yorks areas you have the Lakeland, Patterdale (or black Fell), Fell terrier (covers all bases!) and maybe you could put Border-Lakeland in that bunch too (though that name seems to be getting rarer, most just refered to as Fell's).

Decent haul Meg, well done

I agree, there is better more modern stuff out there..............do a search. Yep, dead right but back in the 's there was nothing to touch 'em, Blue eye, Black eye & Clear eye, all done well.

some breeds take longer than others for the nuts to descend........be careful when taking a pup for its first jabs as the vet if they cant find both will tell you all about this condition and the dangers (which are real as Dawn states above) and try and get the mutts nuts off before he has had chance to let them descend........My dog has both proudly swinging in his sacks! however on his first visit to teh vets one wasn't quiet there....vet starts going on about all teh above (this is a small 8 week old puppy) and saying I will have to book him in for castration! I think the vet saw it as an o

average lamping bags...what do you get?
Bosun11 replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I use army surplus, though post bags ain't bad, some are swearing by SS's new carrier but I don't catch that much to justify one 'The One' and others are right, it's all about where you are, the weather conditions, also what you are running and how expierienced you are. Never be disheartened by listening to folk talk of taking huge bags (even for their average), most are full of shite, you'll learn that just as you'll learn about your ground, the weather, your mutt and all the expierience you'll soak up along with it. The only 'fly' is, no matter how keen you are and will persevere for -
Christ!!!! It's not about the dogs fecking nut, or the lack of it, it's about breeding from a 12 month old animal that has seen little or no work, that is the point, simples!!!!! Dawn B also, I beg to differ, the working Border Terrier, as a whole, is in dire straits, the thred on 'em on here is proof of that, I wouldn't care if it had one ollie, is overshot, had a stump tail or pissed backwards, if it went to ground, stayed to ground and could be called a genuine working Border Terrier, i'd breed from it, without a single doubt. All other minor 'faults' could be then bred out but wor

Unless i've had to administer medicines to my dogs I've never weighed 'em, even when a vet has done it, i've never taken much notice, to me a dog need only to be viewed to see it's condition, weight matters little. All that said and I do know that my mutt would be a pound or two heavier if all the parts missing were still intact!

The Working Border Terrier Club
Bosun11 replied to PICK AND SHOVEL's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
If you have tried for years, you must really want one,if i really wanted something i would pay the price, this is the same problem that keeps cropping up,there has been a set price paid for borders for years,so why should the man who has worked even harder to keep a working line going sell his cheaper, than those who keep them as pets, surely he is entitled to the same money some people just dont get it and never will ....funny how its a alaunt owner that wrote that I tried the alaunt but it didnt suit, maybe i will get my user name changed to please you,yes some people will never get it, -
The Working Border Terrier Club
Bosun11 replied to PICK AND SHOVEL's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
A lad on here said that Dave Harcombe tried it about 20 years ago, and it didn't work. The reasons it didn't work was there was no internet and he used alot of show bred stuff, thinking he could get them to work. Just before he wrapped in the borders, Levi Oates offered him 3 digging borders, 2 bitches and a dog that were working, not pups. John getting back to you, I think you have a big task ahead of you and I know quite a few lads up and down the country that would say the same. I love the idea of it, as I am very passionate about border terriers, and I wish you the best of luck in your que -
EP, I'd have a think on how much you want for it based on how much it's actually worth, with an original jacket. I'll bet you'll get plenty of interest and do your homework, as somebody else will

a few good terrierman turned plummber down with interviews when it came to writing the fell terrier book as by then he already had a reputation for writing bull shit..one great terrierman arthur wells who is no longer with us from kendall in the lakes turned him down i know for a fact, which was a shame as wells did alot of diggin with some really good hard dogs Bill did turn plummer down & he was far from polite about it . I know this for a fact , because it was at a show when he was approached & Bill had been taken to the show by my dad who was stood next to him when Bill told him

His finest work, an undertaking I don't think many would do again. Some great men in there and unfortunatley some not so great! Oh, and some 'deliberatley' missing!! As far as i'm concerned though, its a 'must' read. Anyone wanting to look back at the great days of Fell hunting, the terriers and the men who kept 'em needs a copy.

Has the look of the old types, types rarely seen on here or most places these days, damn shame too, RIP.

Quite a few good answers on here to an interesting question, what i'd question, these days is the 'value' and 'credibility' of the word respect. In my youth it was a 'powerful' word used, seemingly, for things of great importance. These days it's been hijacked by street kids and gang culture and though they use it as a word of 'equality' to stabalize their volitile world, what they really should use is the word 'fear'. "He doesn't respect me"! Should be, "He doesn't fear me"! and, usualy sparks retribution...! Sorry for boring.... So, saying 'respect your quarry', these
