I did vote no because as far as i'm concerned any track or coursing greyhound will fit the bill to make up a serviceable lurcher BUT yes, I will go on to say that better bred dogs will produce better offspring though, in the huge greyhound gene pool many top dogs have come from much lesser parents. What would be hugely important for me is bone, especially feet. I would always go for a greyhound that has good feet, particularly if they are intact after a full working (racing, coursing, field) life. The example I would use is one of the more recent Waterloo Cup winners (can't remember the year

A mate of mine had one years back, accidental mating. He just bought the dog on at a bout 12 months old as he liked the look of it, turned out one hell of a fox dog BUT just incase anyone else thinks its gonna be the same with any Dalmation cross, think again, this was a one off, its brother was just on useless, at any task, scatter brained and a jacker, as i'm sure plenty more would be. Stick to traditional crosses folks

Turk, to be honest mate, your first mistake was trying to bring on two pups at the same time, it's a nightmare, even for very good trainers and for your first time with your first dogs you have a mountain to climb. But things can be done, start by training them seperate, for retrieving training the golden rule is, IT MUST BE A GAME, play it for little bursts, give lots of praise and quit whilst the pup is still goin nuts for the dummy, put it away, next time it'll know how much fun it is and probs try even harder. As for recall, again seperate, quiet places, call only when the pup 'mi

No dog, no matter how small, will be able to manage the burrows and warrens a rabbit occupies, sooner or later your dog WILL come a cropper and get stuck. Trapped underground in such a tight place, even if you have a shovel, could lead to a very unpleasant death. As said before, for bolting rabbits, stick with ferrets! If you have a terrier that is mad keen to get to ground seek some permission and try it on sommat bigger! If that don't float its boat, digging for rats is a great way to go but for fecks sake keep it away from entering rabbit holes!!

Mentioned me being shot at on the other 'shooting dogs' thred, it's a scary thing.... As for gettin a hiding, it's happened once, when I was about 14. We were ferreting a Waterboard plant, slap bang in the middle of a very famous, local sporting estate. We had done it before, reconing we were safe as houses, big fence around it and ferreting along the banks of the river. A few bunnys out, i'm just necking one and the underkeeper pops out of feckin nowhere, 12's under his arm and he's raging :realmad:. The first instinct is flight but my best polecat hob is still down and I ain't leav

Can only imagine what stress it'd put you and the Mrs under Billie but i'm sure you'll do everything that's needed to secure your dogs and sort them, if they decide to return Best of luck mate

Would agree there JD, horses can be a fecking nightmare when out at night, totaly un-predictable. Ian, I'd agree with the not to run thing too, especially with dairy cattle, can be a bit different with beef stock (though makes good gravy ). Had a bad turn in Wales years ago, lamping along the bottom of a huge field that ran up a bigger hill, dogs on a bunny when we hears 'distant thunder', over the top of the brow came 40+ bullocks, charging down to greet us. Problem was the gradient of the slope, they were getting faster and no way were they going to stop! We took the only option...

Some great classics there, unfortunatly mine ain't so great... In the UK, Puppet On A String - Sandie Shaw In the US, Something Stupid - Nancy & Frank Sinatra I think thats Prophetic somehow......

Well .......... as you asked .......... Christ that drive took it out of you mate... -
They'd be the first EBT first cross seen on here, plenty say they have 'em but pics are rare. Good lookin pups too. I like the fact that you have used a Saluki cross as the sire, we tend to use the greyhound in Lurcher production without thinking sometimes, using a dog that is worked and regularly kills seems good common sense to me and good to see (and hear) that the EBT grafts well too. Best of luck with 'em, keep us posted

Sully, it's like this.... I said all I had to say about that little dog on that post, I was gutted, Tracy even more so, BUT we both accept what happened and thats that! We enjoyed our time with Bella and as far as work goes, either of us (me and the Mrs) wouldn't have had it any other way, that little dog died doing what she was born for, what she loved. In over 30 years of keeping lurchers that was the second time i've lost a dog, not a bad 'batting average'. Thing is, when stuff like that happens, it's feckin tough BUT pick yourself up, dust yourself down and get back in the feckin r

http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...t=0&start=0 The above is a link to sommat that happened to me last year. Yes its a sickener but lets face it, as Tomo said it's a rarety. You could have just the same ammount of bad luck with any pet dog. I'm sure the pleasure gained from working your dog will far, far outweigh the worry of potential loss.

Cheers for the info... yeh I had kinda guessed the battery was fecked.... and am thinking it was a close call to something more serious...the smell was very bad. Bit pist off as it was my new one... The problem with sealed battery's is, that you have to charge them slowly because they can't get rid of the hydrogen that bubbles up at the lead plates while they are on the charger. On the old battery's, one used to unscrew the tops to let the hydrogen escape, check the acid level in it and job done. ATB Michael Aye Scuba, with them sealed numbers it's all about a slow ch
