That takes me back a few years, during the debate on hunting with dogs Johnny Scott used to sign all the books that he was asked to sign with the inscription 'bollocks to blair', i'd hang onto it if i were you, thats a real piece of social history you have there. Thats interesting to know, as I have two signed books with Johnnys BtoB inscription and one in which Clarissa has stated, "Together we'll storm the ramparts of Westminister", one i'll hang on to, it's always made me smile. Met them both many times, two of the nicest people you would ever meet, this country don't make 'em like

say if the dog is worked at 15 month then next season he should be worked more and harder so he breds from him all ok then in the dogs 3rd season he gets a bit of presure on him and worked HARD then the dog jacks you,ve then got a litter of pups that will be about 9 to 12 month old from a dog that jacked Yep, I suppose its up to the owner when he breeds from his mutt but anyone who breeds, especially for himself, really has to look deep, really deep.... Is your dog doing all that you want, all you can give it, are you doing enough with it, is there more in the tank, could it exceed yo

Aye, i'll have to agree with SS, his battery really seems to go the distance on a night out and also on the plus side, that light weight sees him marching boldly across field and hill, vaulting gates and wire and then leaves him fighting fit the next morning! Ok, it pains me to do this but here goes.... I have both prints, bought from G.Hosker in the early 's, both have been professionally framed and mounted in dark hardwood. They have took pride of place in my house ever since but a house move forces a very reluctant sale. Sorry, I will not post pics of the prints up, if you know of them, then you'll know what you will be getting. I am willing to take 'sensible' offers only, the buyer can collect if easier, i'm in Merseyside. Please contact via PM, though it may take up to a few days to respond as I currently do not have internet a

Lets have it right Fence Hopper, a dog MUST be capable of taking foxes single handed to be ever called a 'fox dog'. The problem is these days most dogs don't see enough foxes throughout thier lives, let alone a season, to be truley sure they have the minerals for the game. Without getting into the 'great bull debate'....again!! Why folk who did do a lot of foxes, back in the day, used bull crosses is that the chances of a dog quitting were reduced, especially back when American imports were hot off the boat. Greyhounds can be lethal fox machines BUT how many would you have to try to find

4, back in the early 's, out of an old diesel rail track drain, big old Lakeland dog I used to own drew the first, which we wern't expecting, only to disappear back down and killed the second before we got to him, then moved on to the third, just getting them out when the lurcher went hell for leather down the track, head cocked to one side, the crafty bugger could hear it running underneath, fox tried to squeeze out in a break that had filled with shale and the lurcher, hit it and gave it a much faster exit!! Happy days....
-
Voted for Foxes but only because my beloved Fig Rolls wern't there...
-
My Little..... To give him his full title

What this naughty gentleman is refering to is my eldest daughters interest in High School Musical and her refusal to call the new lurcher anything other than Troy, not a name I went with, his name is Gus to everyone apart from her. Mr Bosun sir, how can you be so cruel, I thought we were friends, I even lent you that quid so you could show pony around the ring at Rother Valley..................how cruel....................
-
I think Simo is going for the full High School Musical line up for his newly created, soon to be strain of cunning hunting hounds Dances, he already has Troy, so I suggest these would be the next ones.
-
Are you keeping back a dog or bitch Simo? Could I suggest names... Chad - for a dog or Gabrielle - for a bitch or Keep both, your 'Troy' would be over the moon, the full High School Musical 'gang' in the one kennel. You would be so proud
-
Dead right on both counts Lucky, Socks your spot on too, I've looked at them pics again and again, those 'beds' are a fecking disgrace!!!

Oldand your right, the post was/is about Greyhounds, look to my first post on here for that I just went off on a bit of a tangent as the longer I'm in this game, the more I see Greyhound blindness for a baseline when breeding lurchers and IMO it doesn't have to be so. Your dead right, most purebreds when crossed with the Greyhound mend foot and other related problems, Tod mentioned it earlier with Bulls and i'm glad you don't have any foot problems in your dogs. Like I said, have a look at my first post, if I were gonna use a greyhound, what it had won on the track wouldn't mean shit

Correct coat on a working dog
Bosun11 replied to northwestmitch's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
They are the sort of old propper borders had a very thick skin, and some were difficult to scruff, so thick was the skin!!! But, I still hunt the hills every winter, where the border terrier was origionally bred, and with dogs that have far less protection from the weather... maybe an outcross is needed for my blood, to help restore coat. Thats them D&N, ain't seen type like that for years. I'd be careful with that outcross if I were you, Borders with hard jackets & thick skin may be difficult to find but with excellent working ability, harder still...! -
Correct coat on a working dog
Bosun11 replied to northwestmitch's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Too many shave terriers these days, it does feck all for a dogs coat, makes it look and more to the point, perform much worse when it grows out. If you want to take your dogs coat down, stripping is the only answer and then it takes someone expierienced to do it right. To answer the first question, I recon the days of breeding coat type in a terrier are long gone, unfortunatley coat colour makes money and is still a valuable commodity...! Once upon a time folk did look to breed a decent coat in working terriers, it wasn't the be all and end all, working ability was but they had to. Do -
Cheers Wilf, my question would be, why use the greyhound at all... How much of a gamble would that be? Why not look to the dogs that have been bred 'best to best' for over 40 years..... MATCH DOGS! Dogs that kill quarry on a regular basis week in week out, well tested in the field, all the speed, heart, staminer and bone you would ever need for lurcher production and if your worried about that 'aloof' saluki brain, enough lines are far removed from that first cross mating. Just sight hounds, with all of the greyhound attributes but none of the greyhound defects.
