  1. I don't get what you mean by 'ditching lurcher', round here if its ditched, its thrown the towl in or jacked. The type I keep will hit hedges till thier dying day... And unfortunatley that can come a fair bit faster than expected! I'd agree with Tiny and say they do get better with age, but then if you own a hedge splitter, each and every run is different and dependent on how far behind their quarry and how hard they've ran it will determin if its a heart stopping strike or not. I lost two youngsters in as many years and have an old bugger here with one eye, how his mother never lost
  2. poof show man thats what you are .dont involve yourself with real workin dugs ya poof a hate yees ye fkn ruin good lines .f**k all show b*****ds.they hav ruined a lot of good lines.p.s .your dog is only as good as the amount of hares it chases.get them f****n on and fk the ban
  3. Personally I really don't give a feck who likes shows an who don't, its your call.. But there's a bigger picture...! I do, i'm choosy to which I attend, I always try to support local hunt shows & 'genuine' dog club shows. Both need YOUR support, both you will directly be helping and 9 times out of ten, they will be affiliated and/or aid working dogs! You do what the feck you want but if I've got the chance, i will be supporting working dogs and the affiliations behind 'em, always! Oh yer, posted on this before... It's all to well to attend the show... and then stand and critisi
  4. Thanks Skycat and all but i'll be honest, when you've helped pull sommat from your bitch and watch it grow from a ball of fluff and it took over ten years in the making, you ain't gonna say 'oh well'...!
  5. If your Vets right Staffs... Then its in the hands of the Gods but yours is a young 'un, and that really helps.... Best of luck...
  6. Some fine shots there W/G, especially those with the young 'uns, 'in gods country' indeed...
  7. There's plenty of posts like your asking Staff's, do a search no matter what's posted on this thred. With serious injuries, everyone looks for some 'light', sommat to make 'em feel 'it's gonna be ok', so heres mine... I've a half cross bull here thats more than had his fair share. Along with the usual injuries sustained in the field, wire rash, puncture holes and rips etc, the big daft bugger went and lost his eye. Blackthorn, right through, tried to save it at first but a lost cause and had to have it out... Ok, thinks I, got a one eyed lurcher why couldn't it still run and catch, turning
  8. Its places like that where the in-expierienced can get into trouble. Yep, vast area of sand dunes honeycombed with rabbits but a nature reserve and a death trap for ferrets.
  9. Enjoyed that Rolfe, it really does make you wonder how some folk live eh. Lets hope she clear's the clutter and lives rat free from now on, though I'd bet she don't..!!
  10. My logic would be that the bitch you have is all the animal you'd need, apart from an extra bit of speed and ain't we all lookin for that from time to time in our dogs! So, if that collie type suits, then keep to the same and look to a big rangy 3/4 collie cross and take a racy pup. If you were looking to just add sighthound to improve the speed, then i'd go for a mixed breed sighthound, pref saluki based. The bottom line in whatever you use is that it grafts and grafts plenty! Oh, just to add, why, if that collie type suits, would you look to any other breed... Don't, because you'll loose
  11. Brilliant, as always Bill... Though i'll be glad when they bugger off so you can put the odd post up in the Lurcher section again...
  12. If it's a 'retierd' dog in my kennels, then it's more than earned it's place to be there and there it will stay, sadly not many get to that stage...!
  13. Been given some old Shooting News from the 's and an ad from Nov '87 reads... Lurchers Two litters. Born 3/10/87. Australian Cattle dog cross greyhound/collie + Australian Cattle dog cross Norfolk. Parvo vaccinated/wormed, all parents seen, ready first week December. Only genuine enquiries answerd..... PO box Shooting News....etc. Ah, all our yesterdays....
  14. Thats some very tidy leather work there Tom, fair play to your Mrs for the commision, you should be very proud and 'Jock' enough to wear it...
  15. Best keep 'em seperate and graft, graft and more graft will ease the situation.
  16. My old girl, a good 'un, now no longer with us....
  17. Enjoyed watching that bitch run, she was really anticipating the hare's moves and running thinking how to best deal with her quarry. Loved watching her head come up on a turn, then drop again when she worked out the new line. Good stuff!
  18. Many happy returns Craigy.... Enjoy your day...
  19. Amen to that Stabba! More than enough's been said on this one... Leave it here and get back to hunting...
  20. One of the best of the smaller shows in the area. Good dogs and good lads. I'll be there... Though i'm sure it'll feel a little different this year...
  21. Nice too, reminds me of that old girl in my avator to the left.
  22. Nice strong bitch, right shape too for its age, should look really well by the end of the summer
