  1. Who the feck is Clifford Pellow, does anyone know of this 'former' huntsman/kennelman..?? All stinks of anti propaganda to me!
  2. Lyme trees, thats a new one to me, i'm not that well up on tree species but i plan on being better! Oh, and if anyone could point me in the right direction of traditional saplings cheap as poss it would be appreciated? I can send you some willow if you want some? just stick im in the ground, or a bucket of water and they will grow Thank you Donna but that is the one tree that's everywhere round here. Funnily enough the first tree sapling i was given was/is a twisted willow, i put it in on a spot on the bank of the stream that runs in front of our house, thought it will look pretty smart w

  4. Another British legend... You gotta pick a pocket or two boyyyy, you....
  5. Now that is a shame. Without looking wasnt he related to Ian Fleming. A fine actor that played his signature role so well he was typecast but was great as Saramanga and superb in the LOTR films. Keen recording artist too and made many albums and was guest on many more, every musical genra too, classical to thrash metal and everything inbetween. I hope the media are gracious enough to show the enormity of his lifes work.
  6. I once read a very good book about a family who got a retriever for their autistic son. Very honest and heartfelt, they said the dog really helped him. But i cant for the life of me remember the title! I think Timmy's dead right with his choices. Though i'd be very choosey and look for working animals of both breeds (labs and retrievers).
  7. Every morning i walk my dogs for 5 miles 2 hours before i get up. Then after breakfast we do 2 miles swimming down the cut. A brisk 2 mile jog after a light lunch. 10 mile next to the motor mid afternoon to blow away the cobwebs. Then we round it off with flyball, lure chasing and 2 hours on the slat mill in the evening. At weekends we do the 3 peaks challenge Saturdays and a Toughmudder Sundays where we can. And we do this every week religious..!
  8. Thank feck someone thinks the same as me!
  9. Yep, preban those ones that never forgot what a fox bite is, long after the first time they were bitten. Can be a bit of a bugger memory!

  11. Nowt wrong with a bit of tree sentiment. Always saddens me when i see an old monster being cut down. Where i now live there are large new tree plantations but though the species in em is different, they grow almost uniform with no noticable difference from any distance. Then i look the other way and see the grounds of the old Hall and it's huge ancient treeline, all different, all striking. So my new mission is planting trees locally. Horse chestnuts, sycamores and good old english oaks around the fringes of the new plantations and wherever i think one would improve the views. I'm als
  12. That would/does depend on how much time i have in any given day...
  13. Shows, a great bit of summer fun that gives hunting folk the chance to both meet old friends and new. What happens in the ring is almost immeterial, as, just like the judge, we all have an opinion of the best dog.
  14. Used to enjoy the trail hounds at MB's Day In The Dales show. I remember being a little concerned the way they bolted that food down as soon as they crossed the line! If i lived in that part of the world they would be something i'd deffo have a go with.
  15. Re-posted it on FB. Best of luck getting her back.
  16. I can only echo others words. Fair play to you Wilf, you had a plan to change family life for the better and there is the reality for all to see...
  17. Thank you Whippet99, your views are the same as mine and to the other posters that can see problems, massive problems, if your looking to breed lurchers out of foxhounds. The bad points far outweigh the good in my opinion. And for those who think because of the name and their quarry all foxhounds must be out and out fox takers, when in reality they are pack dogs and many of em dont have the minerals to pull foxes! That pack mentality may cause problems too for the lone hunter, especially if he only keeps the one dog, without the strength of the pack foxhounds can be neurotic and lets b

  21. Out of town The Flashing Blade The Water Margine (On my phone and cant get the links up)
  22. My love for Fell Boots aside, if i was banging hard down on a banjo for most of the day i'd be doing that in Glockners. For general mooching and lurcher work i'd try them Altbergs and the like, they all got those nice bouncy trainer type soles, recon i could run like the wind in them!
