My feeling is , that a breeding female would have made her presence felt or attacked a person or dog . Plus I thought it was an interesting, anecdotal story, roughly on the same lines as this thread that I thought people reading this might find mildly interesting .

In the words of Max Bygraves , I wanna tell you a story ! This was told to me while I was in the lunch shed , when I was loading on a shoot day with some other keepers a couple of years ago . The one keeper had travelled from Bedfordshire and keepers an estate next to a famous wildlife/ safari park . He told us that he went one evening to feed this duck pond which was in a fenced off compound close to the park. During lockdown, I was running low on subs . I rang a mate who is a gunsmith/ rfd and asked him if he had any and I bought 500 Winchester subs , they are a few years old by the looks of it , but they shoot very well out of my Tikka . I gave him £20 for them .

There is a really strong following near me . They meet in a local cafe on a Sunday morning, weather permitting ??. Then they go for a little scoot about . Some of the paintwork and custom jobs are really clever , must cost a few bob . Whatever floats your boat as they say .

Good night out with the foxes Walshie. I’ve had a couple of “Bobtails” over the years . They certainly make you look twice when you see them . Weird about the digisight ? I’ve got a N970 and I’ve not really had an issue with it . I’ve knocked/ dropped the rifle a few times and had to check Zero . And to be honest it can take a knock . Hope you get it sorted.?

I couldn’t agree more about a winter coast . I love walking on the beach or seafront when it’s like that , makes you feel alive . I used to be in the local wildfowling club , with stretches of the crown foreshore on the Severn estuary . It could get a bit dodgy when the tide was on its way in , it sounds like a train coming towards you . I can honestly say I had the most exciting and dangerous duck flights imaginable in stormy weather with the tide chasing me . I think back on it and I was mad . But you sometimes you only feel alive when you dice with death , and your adrenaline is

I’ve noticed that the birds seem a bit more interested in the feed rides over the last week or so . The drop in temperature has focused them a bit more . They just seem to be everywhere at the moment, so much natural food about . And the stubbles are a big pull too . There is nothing worse than a bad neighbour/keeper. You have to respect each other’s boundaries, otherwise it’s a recipe for a punch up . I’d like this thread to continue, I have a genuine interest. I’ve not seen a big cat myself. But know or have spoken to credible individuals who honestly believe they have seen one . As a countryman , professional gamekeeper and someone who spends all my time outside in the fields and woods . I’ve not seen one , but there are a lot of sightings in my area . I know what I believe, but would love to be proven wrong .

I set up my icotec out in a field a while back , with the idea that I could return to it without having to walk out in the field . I could have a check around the chicken farm and then just sneak back and turn on the caller . I was walking back to where I set up the caller and could hear magpies chattering..... in the dark , when you hear magpies normally you think Charlie is around. I checked with the thermal and there was a fox headed straight to the caller . I realised that I must have nudged the button on the remote, and turned on the magpie call . It worked on Charlie.

That’s interesting, I tend to think , I’m near pheasant pens , I will use pheasant distress. No pheasants in the area , rabbit distress. Fox mating time , fox mating call. I’m going to give your method a go .?

I’ve been reading the posts on here . I don’t know you Jimmy and there are no words to say . I don’t have any religious faith , so saying that my prayers are with you is meaningless. But reading your words and sadness , I feel your pain and it has made me think about the fragility of life. I gave my daughter a hug this morning, “ what was that for “ ?she asked . “ No reason “, “ you are weird “ she said . Stay strong Jimmy .
