No , you will have to track it down on the tinterweb or get clay shooter magazine.

I do a couple of simulated game days every year . I’ve missed one due to convid but I’m down for one next week . And we shoot the drives with someone loading and then swap, Christ you can get through some cartridges. ?

Fitasc is a federation that has its own set of rules for sporting shooting . I won’t go into all the different rules but basically the shooter has a menu of targets for each stand and they are coming at different angles and you won’t get the repetition of a traditional sporting layout . It’s great fun .

That’s true . And they aren’t losing speed either. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea , but shooting clays has improved my game shooting. Have a go at fitasc if you find standard sporting predictable and mundane , you might like it .

When I started clay shooting it was as a laugh , a few of us used to go to a small Sunday morning 50 birder and it was a good way of improving my then lousy marksmanship . I soon discovered a couple of disturbing personality traits about myself, I am very competitive and I am a bit of a big head . One of the lads continually shot a few clays better than me . I just couldn’t have that . So I snuck off to Wednesday evening skeet and Thursday evening sporting , and got a new gun . It wasn’t long and I had the top score . The lads I shot with just a went for a laugh and a piss take , bu

That is some shooting to do 400 straight. I’ve not even managed 100 straight.

I was addicted to skeet . It was a real mind game . The concentration and nerves when you are on the last stand and you are straight is fantastic. I like to shoot it with my 32” barrels and full chokes and really dust them , very satisfying. I would recommend skeet to anyone as a fantastic way of sharpening up your game shooting and getting your gun mount perfect. Olympic skeet is even better .

I have an opinion on handling and swinging a shotgun. I’m probably going to get shot to pieces for saying this , but here goes . Unless you have done a lot of shooting and put the hours in at the clay ground or a lot more hours in live quarry shooting, then you probably haven’t really developed muscle memory and a real feel for what kind of fit and swing you prefer . Most shotguns have standard stock dimensions that will fit most people and unless you are unusually tall or fat or short, then they should be ok . I’m 6,2” and I could pick up and shoot nearly every shotgun I handle. I would advi

BBC to ban “rule Britannia “ at proms
shovel leaner replied to shovel leaner's topic in General Talk
Don’t bother feeling sorry for the youngsters, they have been brainwashed into believing that multiculturalism is great and we are all the same . Well that’s fine until you figure in grooming gangs , terrorists , gang culture sharia law , and all the other benefits they bring to our once great nation. -
The proms is the last place you would find me . But i love a bit of patriotism, I’m all for being proud to be British. What the F do BBC think they are doing ? They just keep on digging a great big hole for themselves. The sooner this establishment is consigned to history the better .

We’ve got some reservoirs on the estate which have duck , Canada’s and greylag , I try my best with the Canada’s and keep moving them off . But we always look forward to 1st September and have a go at the greys and duck . But just like Derv said , they seem to have a calendar. Normally they will have been on the stubble for a while , but because of the wet winter we’ve still got standing wheat and barley and beans . Be interesting to see if they hang around.

I think most of the previous posts have covered it . But here , for what it’s worth is my two Penneth . I currently own a Miroku MK38 sporterised Trap in 32” . Without doubt, the best gun I’ve had . I’ve had Perazzi and Beretta. But nothing has felt as good to shoot as a Miroku . But that is just me . You say your gun shop has Mk60 in . If they have got an MK 60 grade 5 game gun , get it , they are for the money to my mind the best bang for your buck . I think they are retailing under £3000 . You could spend more on a Caesar guerini or Perazzi or a Belgian Browning , say a B2G or similar . B

That is why I’m not convinced, the terrier lads sighting, and the photo on the phone , it’s all anecdotal or secondhand, and while the people sharing it seem genuine it’s all hearsay .
-
I admire you for your commitment Greyman . I will be the first one to hold my hands up and say I was wrong . The picture I saw by the way was of a Lynx . And it was in definitely in this country. The guy who showed me the picture on his phone knows the keeper that shot it and vouched for it being genuine.

I would use some saddle soap . My Mrs and kids had horses and there was always some knocking about . I’ve found it’s good for softening dried out leather . I use it on game bag straps and gun slips and any leather which starts to crack . ATB

This is my argument exactly. The area I keeper has had lots of sightings of big cats . But I am the guy who is out there day and night with digisights and thermal spotter , binoculars, and I’m actively looking for deer and foxes . I also pay attention to footprints in the mud . We have the hounds through a few times and through the season we beat the woods out . And personally I’ve not seen anything. Yet random dog walkers see them all the time ? Now you would think that makes me a huge sceptic . But a couple of guys I know who were out doing terrier work on a hunt day , positio

Custom Built MDF Wheel Sharpener
shovel leaner replied to GruffaloGriff's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
I’ve been using one for a while . I bought the cheapest bench grinder from screwfix £19.99 and watched a YouTube video . I made the MDF Wheel by drilling the centre and jigsawing the circle and then finishing with a chisel . I just use the green honing compound and you can shave the hairs off your arm . By far the quickest and best sharpening method I have ever used . -
Talking of livestock finding weird and wonderful ways to die , a mate sent me this picture a while back , saying “ only a pheasant could manage this “.?

What I saw in the pictures the birds look good . I don’t want to teach you how to suck eggs , cos you know what you are doing . But as regards gapes , this is what I do . Gape worms have a three week life cycle , so I treat mine at 9 weeks and then at 12 weeks with the last pellets before they go on to wheat . I’ve done if this way for a long time now and never hear a snick . Of course if it’s dry they very often don’t need treatment, but I’ve got a feeling that any keepers who have still got birds in pens will now need to treat their birds . I’ve got a theory that when it’s wet it’s difficult

Don’t panic Mr Mannering !!! Looking at the pictures you have posted, your birds look to me to be well feathered. I’m sure they can stand a few wet days . I would just keep moving the drinkers and feeders each day so it doesn’t get too paddled up . When you refer to the medicated , what is it Avtec ? If it is give it now , it’s a coccidiostat and it will help . If they start to look ill you will need antibiotics, and you can only get that now by script from your vet , and they will want to do PM,s . But I don’t think it will come to that . As a rule of thumb , 10 days in the pen and I would le

On one hand I see the damage Magpies do to our wild birds . There are just too many of them . A Magpie population that isn’t controlled is no good for anything . On the other hand , as a fox shooter , sitting out at dusk , waiting for a fox to show . The magpie is my friend and his warning cackling gets the pulse racing and the senses focused. I think it’s one of my favourite sounds .?
