  1. I had a mate helping me yesterday. I shot three , by the time I’d tipped the guts out , taken their heads and legs off and dragged them back to the ATV and into the chiller I was knackered . I said to him “people pay to do this” ??? Stalking and pulling the trigger is the easy part . You can shove the rest of it . That’s why I like foxing .
  2. It’s no joke . Every deer I gralloch is stuffed with wheat . I’ve probably got about 30 on the place at the moment. I thought I’d sorted the bucks , but more have turned up . I’m going to hopefully take about 15 does . Made a bit of a start . Just see how we get along with our new sausages.
  3. I spoke to my game dealer yesterday to see if he could take some fallow off me . I know all the restaurants and hotels and pubs are shut now and he wasn’t taking any venison, but I wanted to see if he would do some sort of deal where he would process them into burgers and sausage and joints and him take some and me have some and no money changed hands , but he told me he’s got 5 tonnes in the freezer and is unsure if or when he can unload it . His staff are furloughed and he couldn’t help me . Anyway I know a guy who makes burgers and sausage and processes deer at his house . He h
  4. I spent a bit of time in an engineering shop years ago , I’ve got to say I hated every minute. I witnessed a guy de- berring a workpiece on a lathe with a Swiss file , the file hit the chuck and sent the handle through his palm into his wrist . He went white and was wandering around with his arm stretched out with just the point of the file sticking out . Some clever f@cker starts singing “ Spider-Man , Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can “ , a moment of hilarity in an otherwise grim situation .
  5. I agree about fallow. Best tasting. I’ve heard CWD are very good, but I’ve not tried them .
  6. Forget what you’ve heard about them being the best venison. No different to roe in my opinion.
  7. Nice one ? . I used to supply the shoes with squirrels. They did squirrel burgers and squirrel pie . I think it’s changed hands since then . But still a good boozer .
  8. In future I propose that we refer to “crows” as “ black stuff “ that way we can avoid upsetting the members of this forum who require the correct identification and terminology for each species. I hope this doesn’t offend any BAME members of this forum . If it does, then maybe we could call them “ coloured stuff “ instead.
  9. Nice one Greyman ? . If you moor in Gloucester docks , PM me , I’ll come over and have a pint in the Brewhouse next to the quay . The best beer in Gloucester . Try “Shed head “ or “Stevedore “. That’s a nice little run from Sharpness to Gloucester, then up the Severn to Tewkesbury. I’ve got an old mate lives on a narrow boat on that stretch. He spends most of his time in the Horse shoes in Frampton, I think you two would get on well . He’s got a Lurcher and catapults , he can’t reconcile me being a gamekeeper . He calls me a traitor .???
  10. I’m not a fan of HV too loud . I just don’t need that extra range . The ones I have tried were very accurate .I keep a few handy , just in case ?
  11. Avian flu has been found at Slimbridge wildfowl and wetlands trust . Migrating birds have brought it in and some have died . There might need to be a cull . I will volunteer my services, I’ve always wanted to be let loose in there with a shotgun.
  12. I usually sell a munty in the skin for £20 , Roe £30!and Fallow depending on size for anything from £50 - £80 . Game dealer isn’t taking venison at the moment but £2.50 a kilo is about right.
  13. I’ve got a 1000 coming to my mate the RFD from Ruag , orders over £50 are free delivery.
  14. That’ll do for me , I will try to source some . Cheers pal ?
  15. When I said cycling I meant working the bolt . The RWS are hard to push in and extract , and sometimes they don’t extract the first or second time . I think it’s a lot to do with the age of the bullets and the ancient waxy substance they are coated in . I will try cleaning the bullets with some white spirit and see if that helps . But I am going to need to buy some new ammo soon so just wanted to know what was a good performing 22lr .
  16. I’ve been given a load of old bullets by a friend a while back . I’ve used the old Winchester’s but I’m not liking the RWS they don’t load or cycle well in my Tikka and when I tested them the majority grouped well , but there was the odd flyer . They to be fair have some age to them , and there is a grease on them which is quite hard . Just after a bit of feedback from you guys that actually use a 22lr , what rounds perform the best . I’ve seen an advert for Norma 22lr ammo , has any tried these because I rate their stuff , but I think it’s made in the states under license.
  17. I remember being on an end of season cock bird day and one of the guys had a box of black powder cartridges, he put one in my cartridge bag and said “ shake your bag and don’t look at them when you load . This I did and just remember a cock bird going over followed by an explosion of smoke and flames bilgeing out of the end my barrels . The smoke cleared and the keeper was stood behind me laughing and congratulated me on folding up the bird , if he hadn’t told me I wouldn’t have known.
  18. Greetings friend from across the Atlantic . I look forward to reading posts about hunting in the States , it’s something I personally find very interesting. I admire US hunters and fishermen, some of the most knowledgeable and passionate sportsmen there are . Why don’t you write a description of a hunt you have had and put some pictures up , that would be good . The rifle section is quite busy and so too the working dogs section.
  19. The problem is that celebrities are reluctant to speak out because it can damage their careers. I’ve been out hunting and out on shoots and seen celebrities. They make no mention of it on their social media and keep their heads down . God forbid they upset some snowflakes. Thing is with Beefy , he don’t give a shit what they say . There used to be a gang of famous shooters take days on a shoot near me , Eric Clapton , Mark Knofler , Jackie Stewart , and Queens Roger Taylor and others !! I wonder how he explained his love of pheasant shooting to Brian May ? And they killed 1000’s
  20. Well , after my close encounter with the “famous fox “ this morning ( Foxdropper and fox hunter , it’s the one in the video dancing around with the Muntjac) . I apologise to everyone else that I can’t share the footage of the fox chasing and playing, yes playing , with a munty . My IT skills don’t stretch to uploading videos from WhatsApp onto here . So tonight was blowing a fair bit and dark and damp . A good night to foil my nemesis, who has been spotted by everyone . I was to be honest getting sick of hearing people saying “ saw that fox again this morning “ .
  21. Good old Beefy . About time we had someone in our corner.
  22. I was out first thing this morning, as I am every morning. But I thought I’d take the .243 with me and wait for the “famous fox “ that everyone is seeing in the mornings , everyone except me it would seem . So I had finished before the sun came up and I thought the sky looked interesting and beautiful. Anyway here is a picture. I waited for the fox next to the paddock , I was having a read of THL adventures when the bird noises changed and , Jay’s and magpies started, and pheasants started cocking up , I put my phone down and got the rifle in my shoulder . The noise intensified and
