I’ve shot a few 9,s but the 10th fox or double figures has eluded me . I control foxes on a chicken farm and the shoot I keeper , I also do a sheep farm prior to , and during lambing. I go out and shoot as many as I can before I’m either too tired or bored . It doesn’t seem to matter how many I shoot , nature soon fills the vacuum I create on these areas . It is because of the abundance and availability of protein that Charlie keeps coming. On areas with no pheasants, rabbits, chickens or lambs or ground nesting birds you will I think have a reduced fox population. It’s the same with Buzzards

Sorry Ben , I couldn’t resist posting this . A Welsh friend sent this to me , well I say friend......as friendly as an Englishman and a Welshman can be . Especially where rugby is concerned.?

Not really the weather for it.

Nice write up . And a good result. ? It would be a lot easier if I could just give you a like though instead of having to type this lot out .? -
A mate of mine is a Gatcombe , princess Anne’s estate. I’ve loaded there a couple of times . She and her son seem normal . I wouldn’t say anything bad as he’s still there . But there really is nothing to tell .

There is a series on Netflix called “The Crown” .The new episodes out now are about Lady Diana . The wife wanted to start watching it because she likes all that royal stuff . I said there are four series of it , so she said let’s watch it from the beginning. Well it could be worse , it could be Eastenders . So I started watching it , of course being Royalty it was long before they went shooting, series 1 episode 1 , a duck shoot from punts . Not very realistic and it of course had me picking holes in it . “Why don’t these productions, employ someone who knows what they are doing to make it mor

One is better than none

This time of year one fox is a result .? -
I wish I’d read this thread before I wasted an hour and a half of my life . Do the Italians even have special forces? I suppose if they did it would be like the equivalent of our TA . They are probably only allowed a really really small white flag .

Fog mist and more fog
shovel leaner replied to David.evans's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I agree that long range forecasts are not that accurate . I’ve got a dark sky app and the met office app . You get a fairly accurate forecast of the next few hours . But useless for fog and mist. . -
Cold , damp , heavy with steam coming off it . It’s why we’ve now got gortex . But it’s traditional, and I like traditional.?

I enjoyed reading that . At least when you were floundering about in the mud you didn’t have an audience . I got stuck in the mud on the edge of a flight pond a couple of seasons ago during a drive . Did a pirouette like you and ended up on my arse in the pond , in my tweeds , I did a meerkat ( 360 look around ) to see if anyone had seen , and nearly the whole beating line was in stitches. It’s hard to look dignified when you emerge from the swamp like a bedraggled rat .? Edited to say , I’d go along with Gav . The fox had your dinner . If it’s bled from its lungs it wasn’t going a

They reckon he was the first if not the only Gamekeeping millionaire.

I work for a syndicate and never see them till shoot days . The land owner runs the shoot and is my boss . He leaves me alone , as long as the birds are there he’s happy . But I know that if they weren’t, I’d be on my bike . I am self employed, and work for nine months keepering, then I go on a couple of holidays and do a bit of building work , until I start back in May . I would say that I do very well out of it financially . It pays me for nine months ( including tip money) about what I would earn for a year on the trowel . But like my wife keeps reminding me , if you were pai

I’m not after fallow at the moment . The guy who takes them isn’t here till Saturday. So later in the week I will drop a couple. I’ve seen a couple of roe and the cold is setting in . I’ll give it another 10 minutes.
-
Chuck the pair in the skip and get a centrefire . Doesn’t matter then if it jogs son another 150 yards .

This year what with lockdown I’ve not been too busy on the shoot . Feed in the mornings and keep the hoppers topped up ...... that’s it !! Normally my diary is full of dates to go loading. But that’s all stopped too . So I’ve been finding little jobs to do and now I’ve done them . I’ve even jet washed the minolas , something I don’t normally do till after the season finishes. If I go home the Mrs will find me something DIY based to do , F that . So I’m sitting in a high seat , maybe I will see something, maybe I won’t . I don’t care , the phone is on silent, I’ve got a flask , I’m enjoying the

The apprentice foxers first lesson!
shovel leaner replied to ianm's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Could be worse a mate of mines son who used to come beating is going out with a Vegan !! He has now turned vegan himself and says he will never come beating or go shooting again . All those hopes and dreams he had of spending frosty mornings down on the marsh after a Wigeon or two with his son as company , stalking their first roe buck . I said you may as well tap him on the back of the head and kick him under a hedge , he’s ruined now . -
It’s been frosty the last couple of mornings, it’s very welcome , hopefully it will kill a few bugs . Unfortunately the Maize and cover crops don’t like it and they will soon be unviable as a drive . I feel sorry for shoots that rely on cover crops and do their shooting earlier , this lockdown will be a serious blow . Being out in the mornings feeding is a total pleasure when it’s not raining. I feel like the luckiest bloke to be making a living doing something I’m passionate about . I stopped to take a picture of the mist / fog that was carpeting the lower ground and took a mome

What do you do with them all FH ? Do you have an outlet ? The game dealer by me was desperate for rabbit, he was paying £2 for ferreted or head shot .
-
Good result and a proper write up too . I felt like I was peeping over the top of the Jimny with you . ?
-
Stay strong Jim . Thinking of you.
-
You can but my feeders need to be movable as I move them about and I’ve got about 60 , plus Minolas . They also hoover up the trailed wheat . I’ve tried barbed wire but I feel it puts the pheasants off using them .
-
Just to illustrate my earlier post . This is the stomach contents from the other day , full of wheat . If you have the amount of fallow we have , it doesn’t take long before the food bill starts adding up .
-
I have been put off by the subtitles, but on your recommendation I watched it . I’m glad I did , very good , the man was an absolute git .

I don’t doubt they will do the job and last . I have a love of good knives . And you certainly make very good knives.
