a muntjac buck is hard as nails, pound for pound he is one of the toughest beasts around. i have seen them turn round in cover and come looking for the dog on occasion, and i have seen quite a few dogs get a shredded, some of the damage they can do with their tusks is unbeleivable.

in my experience, a fallow buck is incredibly strong and would take some stopping, but a roe would generally outrun one especially over distance. like the man said though, a muntjac in cover eally takes some catching. never ran reds or sika. water deer turn a bit but arent that difficult, although the odd one runs like a rocket; these would generally be 3/4 grown youngsters which weren ttoo heavy as some adults get on winter crops. but if you ever ran a water deer on swampy or boggy land, or standing water it is a different animal and is really hard for a dog to get up to

heard the old footsteps up in the attic a few nights ago, never sure if it is woodmice or these buggers. if i put nippers down for woodmice then sometimes these will step into them by mistake and carry them off, so i tend to put the nippers inside a cage trap and covr both bases. i normally use peanut butter as both these and woodmice lov e it, but these also love fruit, they have a really sweet tooth. they are really easy to trap and have no fear of the trap even within minutes of putting it in place. i have often put a bit of apple in a shed or building where these are feeding, and these wil

a friend of mine has a dachshund which ws diagnosed with diabetes two years ago. my mate is very anal about everythuing, a proper nerd, and he was testing pss two three four times a day, juggling feed quantities etc for ages. basically it took him about a month to work out the exact amount of food versus dose ofn insulin, and does the exact same feed morning and evening, and also tries to keep the amount/intensity of exercise pretty constant ( i dont know if this is importnant) and the dog is in excellent condition nowe, you wouldnt know there was anything wrong with it

Super good. I'm out with them nearly every day. They might get to stay home on some of the weekends because of the deer hunting. I'm having a blast with them though. They've caught just about everything I've been putting them on and a few extra things. I've successfully kept them off of coyotes so far but they're a little over two now and have had a lot of practice so they might be alright for them this winter. Their hell on cats and fox but they won't tree a lick and I think I can do one better and get some treeing instinct in them so I'm working on a second cross to work it all togethe

i think that a large part of a dogs temperament has formed by even a few weeks of age. and although as working dog people we should be able to sort out temperament issues to some degree, why make your job harder? these days i pick the pup which comes over, says hello politely then gets on with what its doing. not the one thats in your face or the one staring at the corner , although these can stillmake decent dogs you will have a more dificult time of it, so take the easy route! good luck.

So Who Wants To Release Wolves Back In The Countryside ?
beast replied to neil cooney's topic in General Talk
consider two points, both of which i have touched upon. first, are the prey species running to very low numbers, thus causing the wolves to explore different food sources? secondly, have the wolves been food- habituated to humans, in other words have they been finding human-related food supplies such as livestock or garbage dumps or pets, which cause them to associate humans with food? Really .... thanks for the film saluki, very nice footage. but what is your point, does that film somehow answer my questions above? if the prey had run thin on the ground, and that camerama -
not at all, 100% serious. why, have you a grand you desperately want to spend? thanks for the comments folks, i have found that there is an elephant group on facebook, might get someone to post on there for me

good for you them soays are evrything you say, but they are also wild as hawks, very primitive mentally (they dont herd to a dog for example) and amazing escape artists. get them used to being fed from a bucket, so you can at least egt them close enough to check them each day!! not trying to put you off though, best of luck and enjoy them!

in tirley neat tewkesbury is an old boy called hartland who makes filthy old farmhouse drain cleaner, i used to go and get pissed there with his old dad when i was a lad and i was visiting relatives nearby. i still go down once a year to visit him (the son) well the old man and some of his old mates would sit in the dug out (an old stable) drinking this murky old filth and lacing it with rum, whisky or whatever else they could get their hands on. ive come out of there many a time not knowing if it was new york or new year, and they old boys just sitting there grinning. they took me back to my u

So Who Wants To Release Wolves Back In The Countryside ?

and if you read my previous post, you will see that the film supports it; wolves fear man when they have been hunted, and the chap saying that they are not dangerous is a hunter - of course they arent going to go after him, they are educated wolves! this thing about benign wolves is tosh, they learn to be scared. the reason man eradicated wolves wherever possible wasnt just because they competed for prey, or killed his livestock, it is because wolves ate his children. -
