  1. I completely agree with you Casso but when owners are unable to keep a dog under control I prefer them to be unable to contribute to the numbers of accidental litters ending up in rescue or dumped in ditches. I actually believe castrating can make a timid dog more aggressive. Human failings are the problem not dogs.
  2. Many pet owners are not clued up enough to manage a dog left entire so perhaps not such a bad thing. I have not asked the dogs opinion though.
  3. I do not want to scare you but this happened to a friend's dog. The vet ended up having to take a graft from the dog's leg. Keep a close eye on it, any worries back to vet.
  4. I thought some of you might be interested in this article: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/feb/25/europe-wolf-population-finland-culling-protection
  5. I agree that the most important thing is that she has now found a good home. However I am still reeling at the chain of events that led to you owning her. Very worrying for anybody who works their socks off to ensure a rescue dog's future. Selling a rescue dog on?
  6. Nice bitch and I hope she works out for you but I think you were told some fibs. The people you got her from just wanted rid and never got her from a rescue centre. Any half decent rescue would have had the bitch neutered and microchipped. They would also make it a condition of adoption that the animal be returned to them if no longer wanted. Has the vet checked her for a microchip? This would tell you who her registered keeper was at the time she was registered. My guess is she is probably not microchipped.
  7. Some dogs are better if they cannot see out. Easiest way is to use a large crate covered up. No guarantees but worth a try. If you use skullcap and valerian (Dorwest) , start it a few days before the travelling. You could also have a look at the Adaptil products. One of mine pants wildly all the way and will not lie down, even on an all day journey while the other dogs around him are all asleep. I am afraid I have given up after trying everything but most youngsters grow out of it.
  8. Sorry, having problems putting everything in one post. Lovely pup, he looks like he has got plenty of growing to do yet.
  9. Dam saluki/grey, sire KC whippet. 15 weeks:
  10. Three cornered garlic? (from my OH).
  11. The first vid. is just sick. I only watched half and I will not watch the others. If those were my dogs they would never be allowed near game. Hunting is not about getting kicks out of seeing animals being tortured. That is strictly for pervs.
  12. Try asking the same question on the Horse and Hound forum.
  13. I like the look of the pups but a new kind of doodle for Christmas? Somebody is hoping to lure the 'have more money than sense' pet owning lot again.
  14. From what I have read about Hancock, big numbers, high prices, parents never worked, breeding for looks, I thought he was more after the pet market these days?
  15. One of my bitches can take an instant dislike to the way some people look, move or smell. No way to tell. She is muzzled any time she is around people she does not know, simple. As I am fairly antisocial it is not that often. On the other hand she is brilliant with my four year old grandson.
  16. I was amazed at the bravery of a hen pheasant once. She was on the road wth her brood and I tried to push her and the chicks onto the grass verge to save them from being run over. She thought I was after her chicks and attacked me repeatedly. I stood back and waited until she took them off the road in her own good time as I was obviously not going to be allowed anywhere near.

  18. Link the harness and the collar with some kind of strap. Dogs can back out of most harnesses apart from the ones with a second strap behind the ribcage.
  19. The vet warned me my dog could develop a lump at the site of the injection, it happens so often. Sure enough he did. It did not worry him (or slow him down!) and went down in a couple of weeks. Nothing to worry about.
  20. Would he chase a ball? One of my dogs is not food orientated but show him a ball when he is thinking of bogging off and he will come as he knows I will throw the ball for him to chase, that is his reward for coming back. And if he brings it back he knows I will throw it again. It took me six months to get him keen enough to have this effect but it was worth it. Of course it will not work if he has already started after something. I am working on the same thing with two rescues as well, one is nearly there but the coursing bred one is still finding a lot of things more interesting than me
  21. I got Sereto collars for all my lot in the Spring. I was also weary of side effects but you can get those with anything and I reasoned it would be easier to remove a collar than take a pill out of a dog or a pour-on out of the dog's coat or bloodstream. I have had no problems and they are 100% effective. Very pricey from vets but can be bought from Sanareva (internet) without a prescription and much cheaper.
  22. . There are enough lurchers in rescue without breeding some for pet homes!!!!
  23. What cross? One of my bitches looks exactly the same but I have not got a clue what is in her mix apart from saluki.
  24. Not all collies react to Ivermectin, only the ones with the MDR1 genetic mutation. Dogs that might be sensitive to Ivermectin should be prevented from picking up droppings from recently wormed farm animals too. If your dog has been treated with Milbemax and has not had a reaction he is probably not one of the sensitive ones. I have opted for Seresto collars this year as I got fed up looking for ticks in long fur every day, and still missing some, and my dogs are thankfully ok with Milbemax which given monthly protects against lung worm we have here as well as doing all worms. I found o
