  1. Good point and I agree apart from possibly greyhounds, although they are undoubtedly faster I dont think they are as sound or sturdy because everything is sacrificed for speed. I agree but I also reckon today's coursing dogs used week in week Out on big flat land are the equivalent of the greys from years ago, after all they both bred for same job before racing come into it thats true

  3. I think you are right to go on what your dogs are telling you. If they look warm and happy thats it,but remember it can go colder some years and a few years ago we had 13below. Two dogs make a great difference but if you lost one and temps plummit then youve got a cold dog. The worst for me is a cold wet dog back from work.Possibly hes lost some blood aswell. He needs a good warm meal and some heat on him in the form of a heat lamp for me because its the nearest thing to the sun warming you through. Ive got bullx dogs with very short coats, and I know when they are feeling the cold because like

  5. how old were the pups mate? im suprised they didnt take at least some them aswell.
  6. Back in the eighties there were loads of big old bull shitters about, and lots and lots of dealers and puppy peddlers. A lot of people had loads of dogs and did nothing but shows. A lot of them today would be torn to shreds on this forum. Imo there are better dogs around today in fewer hands.. Anyone remember the pet section of exchange and mart? reams of dogs for sale with endless claims about there prowess but sadly mostly bullshit.
  7. As said by bird trust no dogs 100% but I will say dont forget the Greyhound in the mix. The only bad bullxs Ive had that have been dedicated sheep killers have been 3/4 Greyhounds. Also I have never had a dog that cant have its thinking changed with a PAC collar used properly..
  8. is that a firstx? Ive had some 22 around 45lb very good catchers. I dont like these 28" ones.Ive had them but tire too quick and get injured too often.
  9. If a firstx bull is 28tts he as thrown to the greyhound. Best not to get yourself a set of fixed ideas about dogs.
  10. Different dogs for different jobs mate you get a well bred beddygreyhound an it will be much better ferretin/bunny dog than a bull x atb mate how much experience have you got ferreting with bullxs because Ive found most of them love the job and put everything into the job as they do with most things..I should also add that the beddy cross I had was not that keen on rabbiting but did love Charlie...
  11. if you know her breeding go back into it as already said by others...atb
  12. its bully all the way with you mate, and good on you...theres nothing like a bullx
  13. i would be suprised if they were not working bred mate, at least they dont call them boys and girls...give him a ring
  14. theres a bloke on here Topper who works his beddys under ground. Thats where the beddy blood should be coming from to start a line and not just names. I dont know topper but hes the kind of bloke i would be seeking, but then a lot of you just winge because you cant find pups for sale instead of breeding for yourself.
  15. What happened with the lad who we had the auction for,was it Dymented? Are you still on here mate, how did you get on?
  16. I had a very good beddy whippet grey that flew into charlie when it was legal. A very good dog but Im afraid a well bred bullx is on another level way above.
  17. And yet that's how the fen dog was created, by adding saluki blood to the lurcher, to increase stamina and drive.......and that's how the lines of coursing greyhound were created, by Lord Orford adding bull blood to what they had then to "fire it up" a bit. In fact that's how all lurchers were originally created, by adding something to running dogs to alleviate perceived faults in a dog that was otherwise OK. The main thing as I see it is to make sure the blood you add is tested at what it does. When you talk about fen dogs or lord Orfords Greyhounds, Pit bull terriers,Bull greyhounds,c
  18. People talk of adding this and adding that as though breeding good dogs is like baking a cake...If only it was that simple. This is how men get lost over the years trying diffrent ingredients by diffrent breeds, and talking about fractions instead of traits. The worst idea in the world imo is to get a dog and then start thinking what to put in it to wake it up or put fire in it.
  19. do these shine as far as a blazerlite from cluson?
  20. A proper dog in some of our opinions is a native breed bred one that can catch native hares, you lot just cheat and it ain't impressive to some of us .............. I've said this before. Lamping a hare with my local bred lurcher X lurcher bunny dogs is considered unsporting by the day walkers. But it's okay to import a £5000 purpose bred saluki and kill them in the day with said dog and that's not cheating. The mind boggles. But each to their own. You dont know what you are talking about mate.
  21. I dont understand what you mean by take her out of season. Do you mean he gave her a suppressant to stop her coming in?
  22. i think major topham put that on snowballs grave. he won every course he ever ran in,and all my dogs trace back to him. honest
