  1. I wouldnt knock Deerhounds, only the Platts one I had wasnt very good, but then I doubt it came off tested stuff.
  2. what about this then, you admit they all look the same but with different working traits.line bred pups shouldn't just look the same but behave the same with the same working qualitys surely thats the whole point.excuse me if i'm being thick "You admit" hang on a minute please,Im not on trial here. Im making a contribution to a thread with some things ive learned over years. Im not very clever so its took me a long time to understand things, but I do understand what Ive said, but if you havnt understood it thats fine I can put it another way. I use my dogs as an example but my point is t
  3. I think all families will need to outcross at some point, and that is where danger lies. When you have spent years purifying or narrowing your gene pool it is impossible to have your eye on everything and some things are unseen. You can inbreed to do good or bad. You are engineering nature and all inbreeding is doing for you is vastly speeding up natural selection. The responsibility for the right selection lies with you. When you outcross you allow in thousands of genes, some of which can undo all the good work you have done.If possible an out and out outcross should be avoided and distantly re

  5. some of mine are identical, but it doesnt follow they will have exactly the same working traits because they look the same.
  6. Spot on mate, and what could be simpler. Why some think its easier to scatter breed i dont know.. If you already have what you want in your dogs as you obviously have then the answer to future good dogs is staring you in the face. What you are doing is inbreeding though not line breeding. best of luck, though i dont think you'll need it.any pictures of the dogs u keep jeemes? I know u keep bull x I think, but u talk a lot of sense about using the right types etc. atb pmd you

  8. I had a long winded reply all ready to go but I deleted it, Im gonna bow out of this one. Each to his own I suppose. If it works for you keep at it, and I'm not saying that in a smart way. A.t.bf**k it! I have to bite.. This topic hits a nerve. I've recently bred a litter of 1sx bullxwhippets. I can stand over mother and father as good dogs at their jobs. What's more is that I can trace the pedigrees on both sides to a long line of some really good producing dogs.question... Do u think if I found a whippet on done deal (background unknown) and a pit bull on done deal (background unknown) that
  9. The fascination and the knot in the belly, its like a drug when you start and continually mull over what to breed what to next. I think the best breeders are the ones who can put up with the disappointments and who dont tell thereselves lies.

  11. brenner, You have started with the right foundation stock and you cant do better than that.
  12. In and in breeding is the quickest surest route to creating a true breeding line of any domesticated animal. The point of it is to purify or stamp in the good points that you want be they physical or mental. In other words courage can be fixed aswell as say good coat or powerful bite, stamina etc, but what you after remember is bad points can also be fixed if they are not weeded out from the breeding stock. some faults are not bad and can be tolerated in a working dog but they should be excluded from the breeding, and two faults should never never be bred together. weeding out or culling or jus
  13. You have a litter of pups from unrelated parents..from the resulting litter if it contains dogs and bitches you can create two seperate strains by breeding a son back to its dam and a bitch back to its sire. The pups will contain more of dam or sires genes. There you will have started two lines. Most people will breed back to one or other parent depending on the type they favour. Which relation to which thereafter is irrelivent. What is important is the health and vigour.
  14. has anybody written to the bbc?
  15. I was talking about strains, not a pack of one off crosses. It takes years to build a strain from a family of dogs, but when you do you can more or less rely on how it will turn out because its a fixed type. Dont want to get too scientific but basically a dogs ability to catch rabbits (or anything else) well even into longevity does not guarantee in any way it producing good offspring. I would rather breed from a well inbred bitch from a tested line in her first season than gamble on a random cross that had worked well for how ever many seasons. If you breed a strain it takes years and you suff
  16. Theres nothing worse than having to listen to people who think they sound funny, when as you say it could of been a really good thread.
  17. It depends if the bitch comes from an inbred line that breeds true, then she has a strong proven family behind her, then I would say breed while she is young and supple. The longer you leave her the higher the chances of trouble. In any case if the bitch isnt a goodun you should know by the time shes 3. Whats behind the parents is just if not more important than there own ability. A dog could be a one off champ but have mediocre ancestors that will show up in the whelps.
  18. how to humiliate mans best friend
  19. I wish these weak minded addicts would stay away from the computer with there befuddled brains spouting what they think sounds clever. A real dog mans drug is dogs. Ive seen these types drained of energy when they aint blocked up with shit in there veins...dogs left in kennel walking about in there own crap.
  20. I think ours are the best, but then I would. I never advertise pups, and rarely even sell or give away any anymore so they are unlikely ever to be promoted or talked about. I breed plenty to improve the line but not to impress others.
  21. I NURTURE all my dogs from whelps,I think it helps.......fickin hell if we'r going to take the piss out of bad spelling on here lets start with 'ANY TRAIL'...Christ, I thought they were selling slugs!!
  22. Why do you want the bitch speyed?
  23. Ive modelled my life off Ratty from wind in the willows, but instead of messing about on the river I just mess about with dogs, and no I havnt been arrested for it yet..
  24. And some alaunts are as racy or racier than bull crosses. So where does one stop and one begin?, they're all bull types at the end of the day and the size, weight and shape of the dog will have more bearing on its capabilities than how it is actually bred. If you really believe what you have just said you really need to think again mate. Not point scoring or trying to make you look silly but the truth is exactly the opposite of what you said. A good conformation without a working heart and brain is a useless tool indeed. You can give it what bullshit name you like but unless its got a go
