  1. people can ask what they like. They will only get it if the market is there.
  2. Get an electric shaving kit. I just bought one thats pretty good. I do one with a ferminator and another who has a nuisance linty coat with the shavers. They definately feel better after it. I wish Borders had smooth coats.Living in the midlands it never really gets that cold. Some of the coats on the working dogs are not good i think but thats because they are bred for working traits not coat. You may start by plucking lumps of fur out but you soon get bored unless you are a showing type. Pushing through bramble helps get some out and is more fun.good luck
  3. never put pics up on here or anywhere. If you do take any photos they should be for your own memories and only to share with like minded people. Its funny but when it was all legal years ago you didnt get blood and snot pictures. I think they thought it in bad taste.I think they were right.
  4. i agree with that. They loose it by opening up to the unknown.
  5. beat me to it, new blood would be the choice for me I dont think thats what he is saying is it?
  6. if both parents are healthy and do not share any bad fault there is no reason not to buy.
  7. If you inbreed to stock that starts early and omit stock that doesnt start early from a breeding program then eventually the trait to start early will become purer in the strain and so dominant. Wether that would maker earlier starters better in the long run as finished workers than the slower ones is another question.
  8. I would of got rid of that Border too mate.Ive got one here now that has been dug to at 3ft at 11months old. She was killing squirrels at 15 weeks. I think it comes down to strains not breeds. 10. Its great to have a dog that wants to go early but its hard, especially when you only have one and earths are crying out to be dug, to hold it back. Nevertheless I think genrally the best long term outcome will come from letting a pup have a taste and then waiting to at least 18months. Easy to say but not always easy in practice.
  11. We used to lamp inside free range places. There was nearly always a fox inside the electric fences, although they seem to mostly ignore the odd left out bird roosting on the ground. Personally i think they can jump those fences. Thats why i say 6ft. Some say they listen for the pulse! Anyway you dont want youre pets/kids/grandkids getting shocked aswell.
  12. My hens are in a good shed made from 9mm ply. It has a proper door on hinges with a lock. The run is ordinary chicken wire but with extra round the top and left loose. If its taught things can climb it. Its best at 6ft I think. The bottom is reinforced with rabbit mesh. I have never had one hen taken in many years despite having a fox covert 500yds away and cubs being fed in our garden. Has FD says dont give up just make a proper place for them.
  13. was it this pack that recently lost some on a railway line?? the antis were kicking up about that.
  14. tidy dogs and breafast mate.
  15. you could paint your old plastic with matt black or black magic to get same effect i think. i wouldnt pay for flock for same reason has jayjay.
  16. Is the second stud totally unrelated? is it an inbred dog itself or doesnt that matter if its from a line that does what you like? Ive havnt a line thats doing it by the way just to be clear on that, theory only on my part im afraid, and am probably too old to do it but ill die trying. totally unrelated in the first instance mate from a line thats working Oh i see
  17. I didnt say c**ts I said fuckers. You might not be a c**t but you are a fuckers. Before it gets out of hand i was making a joke mate. Good luck.

  19. genes from dog and bitch split into two parts and randomly come together again in the egg. So all genes are in two parts. One half from the dog and one from the bitch. Thats why some genes are not pure but express a certain trait ie courage or determination. The other half of that gene could be cowardice/lack of determination as a mental trait but it is not visible in the dog because the courage half is dominant. When the dog who displays working courage is bred to another dog with same there is no guarantee that the genes will part and come together in our favour .Thats why just putting worker
  20. so you are keeping a ready outcross line or in the worse case an almost replacement line with a touch of your old stuff in. Is that it?
  21. Dont be put off mate. You will get permission if you dont give up. A good thing to start with is pigeons around farm buildings and grain stores or rats. Those are things that really bother farmers and are ideally dealt with by an air rifle..
