  1. WHY IRISH MATE? I JUST THINK IRISH GREYHOUNDS ARE A LOT BETTER OR WORKING AND FOR BREEDING FROM English were hardier if not as fast.
  2. . Ill pm you the terrier police will read these and berate you for breaking the Terrier breeding code. And condem you to Chancer hell. Now we wouldnt want that would we when name dropping goes wrong eh
  3. Never had a good one off Ken but I know he has bred some. He had a litter with some black and some white all smooth,he joked half are Russell and half are Patts. At least i think he was joking...
  4. What a load of shit to be honest .Written by an obvious chancer in the game .Terriers have no set standards ffs.To be expect from lads that breed this to that i suppose .Last time i will bang on about lines as its getting a bit boring for me as well. There has to be a standard in a line or there is no line ,pedigrees arnt solely the placement of breeds or standards its a type that conforms to an idea and breeds true to type .Size ,form, colour ,temperament ,work are all genetic ,to call it anything else is to admit very little understanding .Its no wonder some lads refuse to post on here wit
  5. All domestic dogs and there uses were created by man by manipulating heredity and so influencing genotype. Inbreeding is used to great advantage to save time producing shape and behavior including gameness and blind determination..If you breed domestic stock you are dealing in genetics wether you understand it or not..
  6. Its a lot more complex I know, but you can get good results with the basics..sheep cattle, dogs, They can all be altered for good or bad,but continual outcrossing will never strengthen, purify or as FD says set genes to produce consistantly good stock. Physical or mental traits are fixed this way.Have a look at Gregor Mendel and his ratio 1.2.1 It doesnt have to be that much of a gamble. When you breed in and in you can put the odds in your own favour,as long as you cull along the way.
  7. You can get rid of any fault by in breeding even if both of your origional stock have the fault, but you do have to cull without question,to purefy the genes. I always try to remember that genes from both parents divide and rejoin randomly to form whole genes again in the offspring. This is simplifying it but its easier to understand. If you think of a gene as being a whole thing but made up of two parts. It can be DD double dominant, DR Dominant/recessive or RR double recessive. Thats how you can breed together two dogs that both express eg, determination but neither are pure DD for that trai

  9. I knew a bloke who only wormed his dog once as an adult in 15 years and it didnt have worms when it died. I do mine twice a year autumn/spring and never see a worm..They are fed on 70% meat.
  10. . Oh so because i dont agree with the genetical theory i just lie down lol. Evolution and instinct make terriers work not genes genes improve or defects in the make up of the body of living creatures. Simplifying such a complicated. Subject. And its importance in living creatures. Is a bit foolish to say the least. Do genetics make homing pigeons return home no instinct does but the right genes make them fly faster , The working trait and selective breeding will help in the search For the working trait the instict to hunt is evolutionaryI think you will find that the Domesticated Dog has been

  13. . R. Terrier x pigeon you wont need a BnF then will you You cant really be that thick surely....
  14. Yes so you could have a terrier dog that is DD for all the desired traits that are required in a working terrier. Without ever working this dog you could breed it to bitches and it would mask any faults they have for the first generation of pups and produce all workers. On the other hand you could have a dog that has proved its worth as a worker over and over but because its good points are supported by genes that are only DR dominant recessive then bred to the same bitches would produce far less workers..I know that is simplefying it but its easy to see how any mammal doesnt need to have don

  16. Be careful not to cut blood off or the end of the tail can die and go bad.
  17. Thats what Ive read aswell but that was when they didnt know about the existance of genes.. And have you had one of your terriers genetically investigated. By a genetic engineer Do you even understand the expense and what goes into idenification. Of genes , when what you really mean is selective breedingStick to the banter if i were you mate.lol. Yeh. I would if i was you genetics lol get a grip tell you what post your breeding for the last 20 years Prove you have improved the working ( TRAIT.)in your terriers by your breeding programe and raised the the succes rate of your lines geneticaly DR

  19. That mating is bound to produce workers, but with less consistency. All you are doing with breeding in and culling is narrowing down the gene pool to the desired traits. If what you are talking about worked so well getting good terriers would be easy, but it isnt is it. So why not open your mind up a bit instead of going round in a circle. No offence intended.
  20. I agree with Hotmeat and you completely on the confidence thing. You are much more likely to forgive and wait for a dog to express its genes if you know whats behind it is inbred pure stuff rather than if you know there are jackers in its make up, but remember the theory isnt guess work and its in text books because cleverer people than us have proved things in a scientific way. Theory is good to know but who the hell has the time to weed out the shite from many litters to get back to what you started with.By not allowing a dog into a line with any undesirable traits you are considerably

  22. If offspring is showing a bad fault (cowardice) then that fault must be contained in genes from both parents, albeit recessive it must nevertheless come from both parents. To rid a strain of that fault the best thing is to cull any pup displaying it. The chances are that the good dog also contained that fault but didnt show it because it wasnt in the duplex form (2 halves). If the good bitch is not showing that fault she probably still carries it but only as impure. You could therefore still produce good workers from the union using the failed dog to the good bitch, but pups from this mating th
