    Le Tour

Red, I rode along Woodhead from home, Motteam area, and passed the turning for Holme Moss, staying on Woodhead. I crossed nine holes bridge and watched from there.

Great day. I was at the bottom of Holme Moss, just over the reservoir. Nice to see all the nippers riding out to see the race. I got there via my mt bike. Mottram Hill? Pissed it and got back to watch the last 6k!

    Le Tour

Just watching the first day of the Tour on telly and the crowds are immense, well done Yorkshire, you've done us proud. The crowds on Buttertubs Pass.....WOW! I'll be catching it tomorrow near the bottom of Holme Moss, enjoy.
  4. We have them near us, the notts sabs. They come up for shooting days on the moor. Large police presence for their last few visits, cnuts! Also come up for the Beagle meets on nearby moor.
  5. I hope he gets the lot thrown at him, nuts electrified, teeth pulled and made to come "home" to England. He can get on the same plane as his mate Gerrard.
  6. Heard today they're laying buses on from Glossop to near the bottom of Holme Moss, just where the main road crosses the reservoir. I'll be cycling the few miles up Woodhead on the mt bike. I might even be working on it as work own land around there.
  7. Tomo, there are pockets of them...You just need to know where to look, but nothing like there was.
  8. The RSPB are planting saplings which are getting nibbled at and have wildflower meadows they're trying to encourage. The rabbits are hammering them. Went out the other night to observe the area and there was several Hares having a go too, but I won't be touching them. I need to shift the bunnies too as they damage to ground I manage with their digging.
  9. Horton In Ribblesdale. Walk up Pen Y Ghent. I takes me about 50 odd mins to get up there then take the route down the other side back to Horton. You'll be ready for a pint then in The Crown.
  10. ORT I drove over it the other evening and the cyclists were out in force. I've been on Kinder Scout today doing "The Round" but could see Holme Moss mast from where I was, bet it was busy today
  11. I'll be watching as I'm very near the Holme Moss climb
  12. My call after every visit to Derbyshire p
  13. If you visit the show you will have a chance to meet Paul Dooley, a long standing contributor to EDRD magazine, who's launching his new book, "All Born With A Hunters Instinct". It's a great read from a born countryman/naturalist.
  14. It's a good read folks and I had fun helping Ron out with his research. Brait proved to be a bit of an enigma right to the end. Good luck with it Ron
  15. I have that book and edition in mint condition. It's now available as a reprint I think via Read books. Good read
  16. I control rabbits and mink for the RSPB and have been known to sort out Canadas. At local level they also keep the fox population down. There are people working on their behalf that look for signs of predators, footings, droppings, scats etc. There's a big push to save the vole where I work so mink are discouraged from getting a foot hold, which is a good thing.
  17. Three minutes in and Badgers were mentioned on Monday, even less time last night. And Oddie going on about the Hedgehog and it's demise....Due to habitat loss apparently! Surely if that's the case, wouldn't there be less badgers, foxes and birds of prey, 'cos they all share the same habitat don't they? Bollocks Oddie, what about Brock eating our prickly friend. It must cost us a fortune to make the programme because you have cameras filming those being filmed! What's all that about?
  18. Absolutely, them clothes are a thing of the past or for the show ring. I walk miles with the foot packs and it's at least the three layered system for me, no sweaty shirt and sweaty bollocks here!
  19. It will be PSGs "Torres" moment if they pay that.
  20. Before I get shouted down, this is friendly advice not a moan. Great photos lads but don't forget to put the cover back over the nests you're photographing. I remember visiting a Bullfinches several times to see how it was doing and on my last visit the nest had been predated. Check there's nowt clocking you like a Maggie or crow. You can do feck all about Stoats or Weasels rummaging around in the undergrowth but don't help the corvids.
  21. Slightly off topic but I went to see the Seekers last weekend in Liverpool. For those that have never heard of them, they're a sixties Austrailian group, still all together but very much in the twilight of their careers. Now some have said that they would not be the same as they were in their hey day...Well the Seekers were. Ok, allow for age to change one or two things like voice range and looks but I wasn't disappointed at all. They were really good, in fact excellent. I've kind of grown older with them and have always wanted to see them play live. Love to see Kate Bush too, I don't think yo
  22. I have lots of trouble with Mallards nesting where I work. The parents don't seem to realise that the chicks will not be able to get out of bywashes and sumps along channels near reservoirs. I carry a landing net in my van, so I scoop them out and put them somewhere they can be safe. Normally in the reservoir! I've had one or two holes knocked through the odd lodge so they can get out as I can't be everywhere to help them.
  23. Can't stand the hairy cnut. There's an excellent letter in the Mail today slagging off his misinformed buddy, Tampax, Paxo, Packham whatever he's called, and his alleged bullshit about the great Malta bird hunt. Get your facts right ya clever twat!
  24. They wait where I work, in fact I'm in a position that I can tell 'em, but some contractors know the score and won't spray or cut back until august/September time. Obviously, the contractors you came across had no sense or understanding. The landowner should be notified as to what's gone on. I'd phone them! Little Ringed Plover? Very scarce and protected. I always leave the area in a state where the can successfully get the chicks away before I carry on with work
  25. I always go off the song of the bird
