  1. I have lots of trouble with Mallards nesting where I work. The parents don't seem to realise that the chicks will not be able to get out of bywashes and sumps along channels near reservoirs. I carry a landing net in my van, so I scoop them out and put them somewhere they can be safe. Normally in the reservoir! I've had one or two holes knocked through the odd lodge so they can get out as I can't be everywhere to help them.
  2. Can't stand the hairy cnut. There's an excellent letter in the Mail today slagging off his misinformed buddy, Tampax, Paxo, Packham whatever he's called, and his alleged bullshit about the great Malta bird hunt. Get your facts right ya clever twat!
  3. They wait where I work, in fact I'm in a position that I can tell 'em, but some contractors know the score and won't spray or cut back until august/September time. Obviously, the contractors you came across had no sense or understanding. The landowner should be notified as to what's gone on. I'd phone them! Little Ringed Plover? Very scarce and protected. I always leave the area in a state where the can successfully get the chicks away before I carry on with work
  4. I always go off the song of the bird
  5. Heard my first and only Cuckoo earlier and had him right in to me going bonkers. Lots of warblers, Wood x 2, Willow, Garden, Chiffchaff and just as I got back to the car, a Goldcrest! Anyone on here take part in the nest record scheme for the BTO? They're always interested in what you find and how it progresses.
  6. No Tom. Still waiting to hear my local one. I've normally heard him by now. Going to a good spot that had several males last year. Binos are in the rucksack and I'm away soon
  7. Going watching Cuckoos tomorrow if they've arrived and various warblers
  8. I'd watch it but it's nearly 4 hours long!
  9. Not mine to sell, but I'll ask
  10. How the mighty fall. I wish that fat MP from Rochdale was still around to face the fireing squad for alleged child rape etc
  11. Sticking this up for a mate, so PM me please. David Harcombes "Bagder Digging With Terriers" for sale. 1985 1st edition, signed copy, "Keep Digging, Dave Harcombe 9/2004". Excellent cond in dust wrapper, £ inc p&p EDRD magazines, numbers 119 to 178. Number 163 missing. £85 for the lot. 12. Lesley, what do you do with all those dead geese? Are they all Canadas or mixed? I shoot them all year round but this time of year particularly now they're breeding. Certain spots I do I need to use discretion like this morning, out early and I pricked 35 eggs. Shooting isn't an option, it's just too public. Ten is a good bag for me, because they're a pain to get rid of! I tend to leave one or two out for the carrion feeders and Charlie and some of the others go to bait traps, but they're hard work to shift. I checked on a spot this morning I hammered last April and there's nowt there, not one
  13. Got some near where I work, but I'm bang at it keeping an eye out for the mink most of the time
  14. It would be nice to see some moleskins, musto and tweed being worn...Though they are trying. All the presenters wear are the freebies they're advertising, ie walking gear, Berghaus, North Face or RAB
  15. The programme had a touch of Jack Hargreaves Out Of Town, with young Matt working on that wheel and Page's contribution. But I did say a touch...
  16. That farmer was Robin Page, outspoken countryside campaigner. I couldn't believe the BBC let him on the programme as they fecked him off One Man And His Dog a few years ago. He's done more than most for the farmers cause and also for hunting. He's a decent bloke.
  17. He said yesterday the gun went off by accident...FFS! Even the defence lawyers buried their heads when he came out with that one
  18. He says My lady when addressing the female judge. He's guilty, so hang him high
  19. GTE, it gets a bit much when you rise at 4am to get there for a 6am kick off on a wet, cold sunday morning then have hounds vanned back to kennels after a few hours. Some guys come a long way too such is their support. I've supported the P for years and will continue to do so, but country to exercise in is getting smaller and smaller with more obstacles in the way every year, hence the comments about hounds having restricted runs. It's just the way things are I'm afraid. Mr R is eccentric to say the least and is working for the cause with his hands tied sometimes. It's not a job I'd fancy havi
  20. I think we all agree, as always is the case, to support our huntsmen no matter what. John will be able to cast aside the shackles he's had on and enjoy long, productive days. Whoop whoop
  21. Leggy, after hunting on the fells for years, the hope valley has become a back garden spot for me. Like you say, hikers, trains etc are a pain. Had some good times there though ;-)
  22. Like I say, the small places. I've seen them go in wales and Scotland and they go well, but the back garden spots? Hounds aren't allowed to hunt to their true potential. I'm not having a go, I've followed Pennine for 15 years. John will find it different when his new pack are hunting away from him
  23. Obvious...with the country he's now hunting to the small places he hunted with the P. We were home by 9am some mornings. Hounds didn't have chance to get away
