  1. Could be that he's getting fussy? Lurchers are defo worse for that than other breeds (in my brief experience of lurchers). I'd knock off the treaty element of the meals and let the dog in question get hungry enough to get the food down his neck. 48 hours max should do it. Otherwise the dog is training you to give him ever better treats. Hope he comes round soon, Duncan
  2. There's always pigeons, wildfowl and squirrels lol!
  3. You know me too well cuz  one brand won't be enough surely. To quote Bugs Life ... "Burn him again!"
  4. But how many have the balls to go through with it? Surely not JUST me? after you mate, with getting your balls branded that is
  5. Had an amazing GSD (long haired and HUGE) and he managed to catch the odd daytime bunny, not deliberate on my part and even got close to a hare once! If I'd been into hunting with dogs back then, I imagine he'd have been able to catch on the lamp without too much bother. Being choosy when praising Roxy seems to be gradually curing her of dropping the retrieve, rather than delivering to hand; worth a try mate?
  6. Funny thing is, for 24 years I've been a man who's had dogs, now I'm becoming a dogman lol. Crossing over to the dark side, or seeing the light?
  7. 1/8 whip, 4/8 Grey, 3/8 APB. To be honest, I'd assumed the bull part was english or staff, but the APB is a stand up breed anyway in its own right. Need to take and put up some pics now she's turned 16 weeks. Paulus, I blame you almost entirely
  8. Ooh, a quick footnote - thanks to 'The Rock' for breeding a cracking dog. She's doing me proud
  9. Hi folks, If you don't want to read about a guy who's really pleased and smitten with his newly discovered dog breed (lurcher), then look away now. Roxy is 16 weeks old today and tonight I took her out for a walk along the bridleway, by way of some retrieve practise in the park. First time I tried this with her after dark and the first ball i threw she just couldn't see and gave up after 10 yards, standing, looking at me with a puzzled expression on her wombley face. I flicked on my led torch and faintly lit up the ball and she immediately spotted it, sprinted over and grabbed it, br
  10. Welcome to the forum Daisy; bet your Dad would be very pleased indeed that you're keeping the interest in field activities that he encouraged. Are you near Bedford itself? ATB Duncan
  11. tough luck, aint gunna go extinct Fair point
  12. Hope everything works out for you mate. Any clues from the quacks re abdomen? Crohns or IBS? Crap luck you've been having fella. Wishing you well Duncan
  13. Not always. A couple of years ago, a gamekeeper friend I had put 6 myxi rabbits in a quiet pen in a corner, on grass with shelter and the essentials covered. Within 2 weeks, the whole lot had recovered!
  14. No matter how shit your day is, you've always got your dogs

  15. I really hope you find a decent home for the pup - looks solid enough to me. As I said, if we had capacity, we'd take him and our pack and set up would soon sort out his foibles and get him on the straight and narrow. JMO, but I wouldn't even swap him for a bitch if you got such an offer - seems to me like you need to get your domestic arrangements sorted first, then maybe look for another hunting dog when everything is set up and ready. I wish you luck mate, Duncan
  16. Chill your boots Johnnylestershair! No-one seems unduly offended, and if they are - tough! You can't be hospitalised by being offended And hey, if someone calls you an anti when you're a hunter, tell em to feck off lol!
  17. there is no sport in catching mixi rabs, you are better killing the mixi ones,to give the healthy ones a better chance of survival and not catching mixi,if the mixi reproduce the chances of survival are very slim i wasnt suggesting catching mixi rabbits was sport, if they have healthy babies that will be healthy next winter to catch surely that is better than catching and killing every rabbit in the district with mixi, then you deffo have no chance of repoplulation isn't mixi passed on by fleas? so surely taking out the mixi rabbits is reducing the spread of the fleas/disease and helping
  18. If it was up to my mrs we'd have it tomorrow, but christ, can't take on any more!
  19. Hate to give a slightly 'cop-out' answer, but it depends a lot on the shooter. With my hmr, I shoot rabbits cleanly anywhere between 75 yards and approaching 200. Others push the envelope further - say 300 yards in perfect conditions. ATB Duncan
  20. I love it when a plan comes together :)

  21. Guilty! Can I thank my learned colleagues on the prosecution bench and advise the convicted not to conduct his own defence in the future? Or fess up quicker.
  22. I feel for you moll, injured dogs n dead chicks in the same night! At least you scored some bunnies to salvage the night. Hope your dogs heal quick M. Atb D
  23. cheers duncan, she eats like the queen does mate, the misses looks at me stupid half the timebtw hows your pup fairing up dunc? Very well indeed. To say I'm pleased with her would be a massive understatement. She eats very well too and has taken to training like a duck to water. Can't wait to get her out chasing, but like you, I'm keen not to make any mistakes with her.
  24. Stunning looking dog Rob, a real credit to you on how you look after her.
