  1. Thanks BD, she is doing grand and I am really chuffed with her She loves trying to steal shot pigeons when I bring them in and actively seeks out feathers to chew. So I don't think thats going to be an issue with her. The branchers are fledgling rooks btw rather than pigeons. Not crows either, so no razor beaks, or I wouldn't be contemplating it. Cheers Duncan
  2. Definitely Gram - just opens up the old, much repeated cyclical debate of the legality of shooting fox with whichever kind of rf - if I see the debate take off yet again, I may not be able to avoid slipping into a coma....
  3. Hi Woody's Mum (Jacqui), and welcome to the forum Whereabouts on Northants are you? I'm just over the border in N Bucks/Beds. all the best Duncan
  4. Howdy folks. Having been inspired by the all-round skills of Paulus' dog, Flash, I want to crack on with Roxy's retrieving training. She retrieves very well to hand (til she gets bored - she's only 4 months old so fair play to her really) and I'm thinking of taking her on my brancher day - May 12th. I'll be using a silent air rifle to knock the branchers out of the high trees and over the years I've invariably lost some in the undergrowth. I'm hoping to use it as a fun training exercise for her locating the fallen birds in the undergrowth. Her scenting skills are pretty good. Any input f
  5. Just curious - am I the only one who does it? cheers Duncan
  6. Can you put a post up about it? Hunting etc as I had a mixed terrier that was half lakeland - most trainable dog I ever had - knew left from right when I sent her retrieving and would even dive under the water to fetch from the bottom of the river! awesome dog! Sadly this was before I was into hunting and fieldsports, but I bet she would have been a blinder at it Atb Duncan
  7. Has anyone else done this? Last weekend, Chris (bruno22rf), Dale (MIA) and I assembled at one of Dales vast permissions; a farmyard surrounded by barns, silos and rape fields. After a mooch around with the shotties and having a fairly fruitless time for knocking anything edible down, we went back to the cars and guns at the yard. We had a bit of target practise with my hmr and the pcp air rifles (we had one apiece), even the odd plink with Chris' .22 Bruno using both subs and some crappy HV Velocitors that someone gave him To look at the back of Chris' Shogun, you'd think we were doing
  8. Me too rob - omfg! Mine's been faultless and never had a misfeed in 6 years of lots of use. As others have posted, I'd try the weihrauch owners forum, failing that, take it back to the shop - on such a high quality gun this is clearly unacceptable. Atb Duncan

  10. Doesn't it make sense to use the skin of something you want the dog to catch? I was thinking of bunny skin for when the time comes. Mine's used to retrieving rabbit skin covered ball
  11. Fair point Millet! I could drop dead tomorrow and leave 5 dogs without a master.
  12. Thats a tough call on so may levels. Depends on the individual I suppose, expected remaining life span of the person, possibly next of kin who would be happy to take the dog if the worst came to the worst. I wouldn't want to be the one to tell someone in their twilight years that they couldn't enjoy a puppy.
  13. I'd love to read some of them......send me them... deleted them mate Big surprise !
  14. It always peed me off, the ban that is. Any dog only behaves as it's owner makes it.
  15. Putting the Wang in Wangford...

  16. Its when he offers you rohypnol as anaesthetic you really need worry
  17. Think its the a1065 your on about...... between raf Lakenheath and Thetford golf club ?....can probably see it from the a11 I don't think you'll see it from A11, not through the trees Gnasher. Cheers Duncan
  18. 52.423962,0.579185 is your grid ref Easy peasy if you copy/paste it into google. The bunny hot spot is closer to the junction with Brandon Road than the google map shows. Happy hunting and if anyone stops you, just say that Duncan gave you permission lol!
  19. In my experience, anyone I've ever known who's had tatt's done so young, regretted them big style. It's a long term mistake, and any amateur tattoos are best avoided as they always, but always look like tacky shiiite. I strongly doubt this advice will be heeded - goes with the teenage territory of always being right But if you're an unusually smart teen, you may pause for thought on this one. All the best mate, Duncan
  20. WTF! Did nobody mention to the bride she'd got her norks out? A vicar with an erection - not good for decorum in church lol! Imagine comments from the toddler and 'tweenie page boys Looks like a dead heat in a Zeppelin race!
  21. I had to quit competitive martial arts when I was 33, kept teaching for another couple of years before I couldn't stand not being able to fight. Silly damned joint injuries kept cropping up after the age of 30, which never used to happen before. I can still do weights and lift/press better than I could in my 20's, but I train to peak, rather than trying to be at superman level all the time I hated getting older, but my hunting activities are nothing anywhere near as strenuous as what I used to do, so I feel I'll be able to do them for decades As long as I can get the dog out and hold a r
  22. Went passed it again today - looked like a bunny convention! Also 1000's of woodies on the rape in big flocks, swirling around and blueing out the fields of rape along the A11. Made me regret being at work!
  23. I've not got any boar near me, so it will be paid or otherwise shooting as a guest, so I guess I can use an estate rifle when it comes to it. I've got plenty of fox and deer around me and on permissions, so fox, deer and AOLQ should do it. I am feeling swayed by the argument for .243 as a do-it-all calibre, but it can't hurt to put in for .223 as well - cheaper to run for charlie. I appreciate your help chaps - clarifies the thought process, thanks
