youve hit the nail on the head there lab. ive only drove the fields on a quad bike twice getting close to quarry then slipping the dog of the bike then helping the dog turn the quarry. the dogs i have been out with are supposed to be good dogs and have a decent catch rate when lamped from a bike or truck. however these same dogs have been run on the same land on the same quarry but from foot and there catch rate is poor these 3 out of 3 or 2out of 3 dogs are reduced to 1 out of 4 or somthing along those lines.
we often here differences of opinion about working dogs out of a motor and working them on foot. many say you put more game infront of a dog by driving round fields etc etc and others say its better to walk etc etc.
in your opinions is there much of a difference in the quality and performance of the fully trained dogs?
is a dog that is worked from a vehicle better or worse than a dog that is worked from walking the ground?
the best working dog to have lived around my area was a pet to begin with. nobody was sure how old he was when he started work he could have been 2 years old. imo some pets have the potential to be good or great working dogs.
getting a pup from worker to worker does improve your chances. but i dont see any reason why a pup from none working parents wouldnt turn out o.k. there are people out there that dont work lurchers but do buy and keep dogs from well bred lines.
its a risk everytime you buy.
that problem with the plug is easily solved buy taping the plug. i always wrap tape over the plug and around the battery just to hold the plug steady, it holds the plug in one place and stops the conection failing on you in the middle of a run.
well done a decent you had there . imo this 100 rabbits job is alot more easier said than done. i think you have greatly underestimated just how testing it can be for the dogs. ive been lucky enough to have been given a invite and see some dales bunnies run for myself.
i had a lurcher bred very similar to the ones your bitch might be having and i would have another any day of the week. if it turned out to be half the dog my old bitch was and it would be some animal. atb with what ever decision you make about the pups.
aigle parcours iso are the best wellies ive found. owned le chameau wellies dont rate them what so ever. ive got a pair of meindal boots ive had for a couple of months and they seem o.k so far.
whin, have you ever made any out of the nylon used to make fishing nets with. ive used some made from the stuff for the salmo nets they bolt into them well.
