  1. thats exactly what i thought. but apparently he is away filming and isnt aware of it yet so we can let him off lol.
  2. is that the dog in the pic? if so its a smart looking animal. atb with the dogs recovery and hopefully theres no nasty unseen damage done.
  3. my experiences of them isnt great to tell you the truth i worked a bitch, she had a good nose and once on a scent was gone but didnt have any bottle and wasnt over blessed with brains. i will say she appeared to have deccent feet and looked smart enough but that was about as far as it went.
  4. well done. thats a good bit of valuable experience for the pup.
  5. it would help if you mentioned what sort of ground/terrain you will be working your dog on. should give people more idea of a dog to suit you.
  6. atb with the pups if she takes.
  7. another decent day there jim well done.
  8. i can get 1pound for dog rabbits in the skin with guts in. or i can get £1.50 for a rabbit in the skin with guts out. the good thing about the buyer of the ones with the guts in they take them frozen. thats caught with a dog same price ferreted.
  9. i dont do much ferreting but surely you should have some idea of how good a ferret is going to be quicker than 2 years. as long has you have a good marking dog then you are sure theres a rabbit home 9 out of 10 times and you start the ferret on small warrens to improve the chances of finding the rabbit you should be able to tell fairly soon.
  10. i prefer to run dogs as they are general built a bit stronger than a bitches and you have no hassel with them coming on heat.
  11. i always like my lamping dogs to be out in front by a decent distance. my dogs run the quarry and return back to within a certain distance say 25 yards which is what i prefer my dogs to do. they both retrieve 99% of the way.
  12. youve hit the nail on the head there lab. ive only drove the fields on a quad bike twice getting close to quarry then slipping the dog of the bike then helping the dog turn the quarry. the dogs i have been out with are supposed to be good dogs and have a decent catch rate when lamped from a bike or truck. however these same dogs have been run on the same land on the same quarry but from foot and there catch rate is poor these 3 out of 3 or 2out of 3 dogs are reduced to 1 out of 4 or somthing along those lines.
  13. we often here differences of opinion about working dogs out of a motor and working them on foot. many say you put more game infront of a dog by driving round fields etc etc and others say its better to walk etc etc. in your opinions is there much of a difference in the quality and performance of the fully trained dogs? is a dog that is worked from a vehicle better or worse than a dog that is worked from walking the ground?
  14. welldone dean nice little outing there mate.
  15. i thought that, and ive seen them appear to run as fast as the rabbits round my way aswell.
  16. i didnt think that the dale rabbits were any larger than the rabbits in my area.
  17. well done lads thats a decent day out there. Tomo its decent of you to provide lads with the opertunities to hunt such decent land.
  18. the best working dog to have lived around my area was a pet to begin with. nobody was sure how old he was when he started work he could have been 2 years old. imo some pets have the potential to be good or great working dogs. getting a pup from worker to worker does improve your chances. but i dont see any reason why a pup from none working parents wouldnt turn out o.k. there are people out there that dont work lurchers but do buy and keep dogs from well bred lines. its a risk everytime you buy.
  19. that problem with the plug is easily solved buy taping the plug. i always wrap tape over the plug and around the battery just to hold the plug steady, it holds the plug in one place and stops the conection failing on you in the middle of a run.
  20. seems like a good idea to me millet.
  21. ive had a 14amp hour one now for about the last 15months and its served me well. i wont go back to the old type battery now.
  22. nice pup that johnny. and i bet you will be glad you took the time out to travel for what i can gather a well bred pup. atb trigger2
