  1. the 2 first crosses i used were litter brothers one was 18"tts the other 19"tts whippet dog over beddy bitch. they were head strong when they were being trained but turned out cracking dogs in the end.
  2. alright trigger didnt know you had beddy whippets have you been out lately with the pup i used blue and his brother alot.
  3. i used a lr9 when i was a kid good lamp. carried a motorbike battery in a wooden box with some car seatbelt as a strap, had a match broke off in the breather hole to stop the acid leaking out.
  4. yes they can, and to which is the better is down to personal preference. ive caught alot of quarry both on and off the lamp with first Xs single handed and doubled up.
  5. tbh i reckon if you was going to learn that job you would be better doing a complete course. i think its one of those jobs where if you just new the basics a little knoweledge can be very dangerous. by just knowing the basics you could be doing more harm than good.
  6. your right a good man is worth his/her weight in gold. ive been lucky enough see a damn good one work on dogs and it was very impressive.
  7. its a pain in the arse at times but its a collie trait, no dogs without there faults. imo its not the end of the world as the dog can still go out and catch good numbers when out in the field, if thats the only real fault the dog has then i would just put up with it. theres far more good coming from the dog than bad.
  8. Thank you very much Vin, the lower protein is only the dry food and he gets only a small amount of this, he still gets plenty of raw. And had a meal in the morning prior. He def is not fully working fit as he would be, say in the middle of the season, but is fit enough for what he did that night imo he did not have loads of runs and very few of them were grueling ones. I do think it was a combination of weather etc. Hypo does sound about right. much more plausible than a seizure or cramps....thank you very much I know how worried you must be Moll..I thought my dog was fit when it happe
  9. be interested to hear how the pup turns out my sister has a 6 year old wiemarama that works got a decent nose and high level of intelligence but its a very head strong animal.
  10. well done lads . its allready been said, its damn decent of Tomo to take folk out on his land.
  11. Thanks for that Trigger, gave them a breakfast that morning cos i knew they would be going out for a long night....mackerel, raw eggs, milk. ive always found its best give the dog a little to eat about 6 hours before going out and it seems to prevent any problems.
  12. it sounds like the dogs blood sugar level dropped low this can cause small and large fits and can sometimes result in a dog dying. ive seen dogs that can just stand still with all there muscles in spasm from lack of sugar. the dog probably only had a mild attack and therefore managed to find enough goodness in its body to recover hence nothing showing in the tests at the vets. you can buy some stuff from the chemist called hypostop for diabetics which you rub round the dogs gums in the event of it happening again.
  13. what do you mean by a funny turn? in which way?
  14. some good pics there and a interesting bit of a read. they seem like a damn tidy bunch of dogs.
