  1. Just needs time to settle in to new surroundings , new owner, new routine. Got to remember what he knows and become habbit to has changed. Just dont reward the whinning in the same sence as dont punish it. If no possitive or negitive attemtion comes from it he should hush up quicker
  2. Its great biking them but a lurcher doesnt plod when its being ran in the field on game. Seen dogs ran for miles and then struggle after 10 hards pushed runs. Not saying yours are like that but I found dogs are very similar to us guys. Like a footballer or boxer wouldnt just run miles for fitness. Muscles work different at different intensities. Its gotta be exercised similar to how the muscle are gonna be used. Reason i like the quad can vary the pace up to there top speed and little short blips of 100meters or so then back to a more runnable trot. Found this better for mine then the long dis
  3. Joe fair play for sticking by him but if hes that bad i wouldnt let him come in a field with a sapling. Older Dogs imprint massively to pups. Rather then picking up traits off older dog let the pup be a blank canvas that you can mould to what you want.
  4. Pups change all the time and no 1 pup is the same. Bit like us really. I know i was a right ribby c#nt when i was young and i was eating all the time lol Looks loads better since you first picked him up. Look forward to hearing how he goes in coming years
  5. Cracking offer for someone. Take it its a van box???
  6. Potentially some half decent working whipps has he been to anything else???
  7. Normal collar or you meaning shock collar ???dont think anyone would put a shock collar on a 9wk pup? Surely!I would certainly hope not... Just the way it reads "will see livestock with collar round it's neck, nothing too intense, just a reminder not to chase"... ? nope its a bright big pink fluffy one so the keepers no its mine. Yep its a shock collar and no before any dumb ass asks i dont shock them at 9 weeks its so they get used to the collar on the kneck so finally down the line if its ever used to give a little shock they have no relation to collar at all. By 12months they will never se
  8. For me i'd more so say he was not mentally ready. I would also take him on his own when re start. Dogs out together add more intense reactions from dogs. The added tension on lead waiting his turn to chase is building up and then on the pursuit it all coming to much. There only so much fitness you can do before work is only option to progress. I'd lamp him in larger fields. Get him right on top of them then slip as they lift. In big fields it gives him time to catch out in field and stay on turns of them. Alot come good once they start getting fur in there mouth. If he was more experienced and
  9. Around here you will have a dead dog if not broken to sheep. No chasing herding attacking all is a bullet on keepered ground. I start them young 9 weeks old and everyday without fail will see livestock with collar round kneck. Nothing intense just a reminder there not worth a chase. All mine will hunt through sheep and are bullet proof and no bond is broken.
  10. How much prep have you given him before you took him out. Did he do it from the first run or on the last??? Maybe a little more info before we jump to conclusions
  11. If you risk poaching you take the risk what could come of it if caught. We all poach in some manner but the worste is guys who go back on people. To me even if some one takes me to a spot that neither got perm i still wont go back. Its his place in my eyes. Anyone who goes back are real ones deserve the kick in as should no better. I only hunt with my family and my best mates family as the respect is there.
  12. She do you fine mate your doing all the right things. Dont worry about the pace side of things pures are alot faster then people realise. They just look to be plodding by there ease of running style and stride. When in reality they are motoring.
  13. Nice group there bring best of them out been all bitches bet they compete like mad against each other.
  14. I jog with mine every morning but only 3 mile then later have a mooch about with them off lead for a good few hours. Day time stuff is weather depending if to warm get later evening behind the quad. All this only preps them. First few weeks of season is were the real fitness is put in working
  15. Yep experiences are more important then distances at that age first 12 months of a pups life really set the tone for later on in life so loads field craft and field mammers if thats what you call it haha 2 mile is nothing though. Dogs are like kids. Let them do as much as THEY want some will naturally wanna do more. Key is having a healthy pup thats what counts. Only you will know what he needs.
  16. Sorry skycat my reading isn't the best. Does that have anything in about what i said. Whats your thoughts on neutering working dogs
  17. Also in his greyhound career he saw higher percentage of cruciate ligament injuries in neutered dogs.
  18. A greyhound man/vet told me he strongly advises against any spaying or neutering at any age. Nothing to do with drive. Sonething about the healing process to tendons and ligaments after small tears. Aparantly pet dogs its fine to do so as there tendons arnt put under the same stress as our lurchers who we get to peak fitness. spaying or neutering could weaken them more so in males aswell. Due to the large drop in hormones that help with repair and cause more injuries. To me thats not a risk i want to take.
  19. Yep just keep getting him out. Only thing can add is bigger fields the better. So can walk out on a squatter. I would get someone to do the lamping for you so you can hold the slip and with other free hand gentle direct his head in the direction of the rabbit to focus his vision to the direction of the rabbit so if it lifts he should spot. That combined with little hish or psst so he learn that noise means rabbit in beam. No good slippig from distance as old habbits of scent and hedge rows will kick in to his mind.
  20. Skycat views same as mine tbh depends on new owners circumstances. I like mine at 6 weeks but thats my own preference
  21. Also about the act i dont think it states who has to own the bird of prey maybe you might be flushing to heavy populated areas of bird of prey sawing above Only have to prove you think your method is exempt from the act then comes under automatic statutory defence under the act. So cant be prosecuted. Hence j d saying if on perm and know about it can prity much do as please. Only found that out yesterday from a game keeper
  22. Do people realise its not a proper conviction. Ive never known a law like it. If ypu get done for trespase in pusuit then its on your record if convicted in court. Get crb its on there but its not the same with the hunting act law. Yes you go to court. Yes you could be fined. But it doesnt make you a criminal as such lol because even if found "GUILTY" it never goes on your actual record. Can get crb and it wont show. Mad as f#ck
  23. The wolfhound over here are destroyed. I dont know of a single one that is close to the original breed. Kc ruined them. Over here they are way to large and big boned that most non sighthound breeds will run them inside and out. Which never should be the case. Kc is worste thing to happen to dogs over here. Ruined So many breeds
  24. This repeal was always about fox hunting and wanna be power rich men. Nothing for us guys. Houbds men want us to help vote to get hunts back but are they standing up for us ????
