Don't agree with you mate, what happens if you have a dog with "no mouth"? What I mean is it will chase, has plenty of speed to get up to it's quarry then sits behind it making no effort to pick it up. I had one like that recently, she seen plenty both daytime and on the lamp and the only time she caught was when a rabbit etc made a mistake and ran into a fence or suchlike. Now this bitch chased hundreds of rabbits yet she only caught 30 odd, the last time I took her lamping my son came with me and I can remember him asking me why the bitch wasn't making any attempt at mouthing/striking the

Thanks for the replies lads. We didn't have any bother with stubborn rabbits Ideation there just wasn't many rabbits about, all the holes were empty except three. There's definately a shortage of rabbits this year on some of my permissions.

The ground's rock hard and also has a covering of snow but that didn't stop todays ferreting outing. As my boys Dylan and Declan and I headed over to one of my permissions the temp gauge in the car was saying it was minus 5 degrees. We were prepared for the frozen ground though as we had some 6" nails and a hammer with us as there was no chance of shoving a net peg into the ground. We tried a couple of holes to start with and both were empty so we headed off up the hill to a gorse covered bank that usually holds rabbits. View from the hill looking across the valley. After reading that post I know who's stressed and it's not the ferret. Heading to the vet because a ferret has a bald patch, how much do you spend on cotton wool in a year? Relax ferret-land, and as for it's " Extremely important to have jills taken out of season", I'll not even go there.

Very few rabbits about up here, was out Tuesday night for over an hour and got 2 runs.

On Tuesday my son Dylan cycled a 10 mile round to do a bit of ferreting, he left the house at 10.30am and returned at 5.30pm. He put the gear and the ferrets away and walked into the house and said to me "that's it dad they're your ferrets now" Obviously he didn't have to tell me he blanked. He was told he wasn't the first to blank and wouldn't be the last, he was also told that he took on the job of supplying a hotel with rabbits so he'd have to continue. Today my other son Declan and I were going to watch his old team playing on the outskirts of Dumfries as his current team had

My son got one like that today, the lump was on the top half of the rabbits back leg and was the size and shape of half a tennis ball. After he'd skinned it he stuck the knife into the lump and found it was full of fluid.

You need to source a different vet Matt. My brother in laws dog cut the top of it's tail on Sunday night, he took it to the vets at 8pm and got 5 staples put in it plus anti biotics and they charged him £27.
