Two best whippets i had were a 16lb bitch and the the other end of the scale a 32lb bitch, the small dog won a lot of races and was a game little rabbiter, bit of a branch buster. never thought she would make old bones but died at 13. The other accounted for quite a few hares and was good on the lamp, i too rate the non peds, plus the prices are more realistic.

Physically hard ,mentally weak. he obviously cant face life on the outside . He could have been out years ago, so why do some people hold these sort of dickheads in great esteem, sure as hell beats me.

Where i lived as a kid there was a lunatic asylum about 2 miles away, there was an old woman an inmate known locally as the painted lady, she wore make up that made her look like a spook, pure white and she was allowed out to go down the village, as kids she scared the shit out of us.Often wonder what happened in her life that she ended up in there. Did a bit of research on the place and found out that a lot of the male residents were WW1 shell shock cases, not surprising after what they had been through.

Always favoured collie blooded lurchers, until i saw a beddy cross scenting, so now run a beddy grey x collie grey trying to get the best attributes of both types of dog, and shes worked out pretty well. My other dog is a 2nd cross saluki whippet lightning fast take off and shes the best ferreting dog ive owned 30 yarders we called them because very little got further than that.Horses for courses though and depends on what your hunting. 11 Years Tomorrow Since The Hunting Ban Came In
keepitcovert replied to cocker's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Good point but when the local beak is more likely to ride to hounds than go mooching with a lurcher, then theres your answer. -
Dont you just love them there is a guy in my village that goes around on his bike from dusk to dawn picking up litter with one of those long reach grabs, he is in his seventies and works tirelessly cleaning the place up. Known locally as the womble for obvious reasons , for those thats old enough to remember the programme. Do any of you guys know any characters like that.

Pre locater days found a few ferrets wandering the countryside, BSA Cadet bought for £ 2 and still own it, and still works great 60 years after it was made. Used to borrow a 410 out of a market gardeners outbuilding without him knowing, loads of places had guns lying around in the 60s, keeper on the local estate used to let a couple of us fish the lake on that estate, i think he got pissed of with us roaming around, leave my pheasants alone he would say and you can fish the lake. Halcyon days, sound like a right old fart now. Borrowing dogs that had a bit of hunting instinct used to be loads o

Lets face it the eu have taken the piss out of britain for long enough particularly the french thats why their crapping themselves at the prospect of us leaving. Ted the teeth heath, never gave us the choice over membership, and i doubt if we will get any say in leaving it from cameron. Of course europe will trade with us to say any different is purely scaremongering. At least we will be able to rid ourselves of scrounging foreigners that have never paid a penny into the system.

Purely Show Lurcher V Purley Working Lurcher
keepitcovert replied to jerry attrick's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Already happening mate the amount of lurchers around now far exceeds the number that were around in the sixties and seventies, saying that the amount of true working lurchers may well be the same as in the 60s 70s. The internet as said isnt doing us any favours, and my opinion is that it is helping to bring the wrong kind of people into the game ie, peddlers, braggarts and facebook clowns, the lurcherworld has changed and will continue to do so, and not always for the best. Who Is The Craziest Lurcherman On Thl?
keepitcovert replied to jukel123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
your deff right about not wired up right, my wife thinks I am nuts walking around fields at 3 am , with a dog who is as nuts as me dragging me about at my age, she said when you going to grow up feck knows , yeh we strange lot lurcher folks lol Yeh i get accused of that, but wouldnt have it any other way who wants to be a miserable sod. -
Like others on here ive never seen jeffs tumblers work and would be interested in the view of those that have, once spoke to him and as said the guy can talk a glass eye to sleep, claiming his line goes back as far as methusalah. Now i wouldnt knock his dogs as i have no experience of them, like wise Hancock takes some stick but i have seen some very good hancock bred lurchers. Suppose with the amount of dogs they breed chances are some good ones will come out.

Always thought that tumblers were pigeons.

Took the mutts for a run late evening tonight, lurcher flushed a rabbit which she chased into some hedging round some offices, she then flushed it and coursed it across some waste land always within 3 feet of it as it twisted and turned, suddenly i heard shrieking and shouting as it went through the smokers corner and half a dozen women stood and watched, gaspers in hand. The dog shot over a little mound out of sight and when i went round saw her with her head down a rabbit hole, went over to her to find she had grabbed its backside and was trying to drag it out which she managed to do after a

Tongue in cheek statement mate, i think the only reason they were granted it, Hull is predominantly english at the moment most other cities, could only get the city of multiculture, with the amount of asians living in them.

The producers of this show also did 'Immigration Street' , that was filmed in Southampton. South of Watford covers a big area, all of Devon, Cornwall, Summerset. Plenty of parts of Surrey and Berkshire are safe as anywhere. Talking Luton area to London Plymouth , B ristol ect are as far west as Hull is north

Age beats all of us some people are slow to accept this, and some people are slow to accept that there agents dont have their best interests at heart,

The media love to slag off a town, always northern towns like everybody there is some kind of knuckle dragging drugged up, white lightning drinking doley.Fact is how many of the producers of this crap have ever been north of watford. And how many northerners would want to live south of watford, Hull is my hometown city of culture 2017 and if you dont believe me ask Ronnie Pickering. Ive worked in a lot of places in my time and feel safer walking round Hull, or Liverpool, Newcastle, than any where south of watford.

Beddy for the nose collie for the brain persistance for the owner.

Mooching is not about big bags, its time spent working as a team with your dogs, ive watched my dogs work a patch of cover for an hour today trying to flush a rabbit from a bramble strewn ditch, using all their senses and experience, working up and down a hundred yard strip before it broke cover, and my dog nailed it. Quality over quantity any time for me.
