i would be more intrested how thick the dogs skin was under the coat rough or smooth.had a line bred collie grey back to a saluki lurcher short dense coat with a thick skin no weather conditions bothered her wet/cold etc. had a beardy /grey harsh rough coat very thick skin again never suffered in harsh weather.
introduce to ferrets as soon as possible and every day. one step at a time.within a few weeks the pup wont bat a eye lid at them.then its progressing to work in the field. seen some very handy russells for marking when ferreting. good luck with the pup.
ive seen all kinds yap whippet crosses, collie crosses even the odd saluki cross.agree with the above points overmatched , too young etc. also seen fools with unfit dogs start to yap.also running young inexperienced dogs through woodland.
since the 80s more so with lurchers i would travel to try and get decent bags of rabbits. the last bitch died 3 years ago and has not been replaced. just been ferreting with the terrier mainly woodland etc. get pure enjoyment just mooching about and ferreting. get the odd bird now and then. im nearly 50 and i hope im still getting out as long as i last. im happy with what i catch now sometimes get a decent bag sometimes not. being out is all that matters to me now.
ive talked to someone who owns them and has a website on them. they said the young ones they have dont have much prey drive and they dont think they would be up to much work wise.
