Keeping hounds off unwanted prey.
morton replied to Who let the dogs out!'s topic in Hunting With Hounds
I hunt with a lad with hounds, when mine hunt they hunt what the terrain holds and he is quick on the button to shock his hounds into hunting what he allows,it certainly works and the hounds suffer little more than a quick discomfort. -
I have a pair of vortex 8+42 vipers,i also have a pair of Barr and Strouds,i also own the odd pair of far less expensive blinks,im an hoarder.I wander round with the vortex because they are far better than the rest and if anybody wants to swap me a decent air rifle for them ill wander with the first ones I pick out of my hoard.

Little uns are bred for the owner to trip over more easily.
-
Behave.

The first time I witnessed a proper Deerhoundy run I wanted one,i made it my lifes ambition to hunt with a lurcher that offered as much, thats possibly why I detest now anything that attempts to masquerade under the Deerhound and offers feck all but a price tag.

stop fecking drinking,if you attempt sobriety for a while you may grow the gonads to jump away from the keyboard.

You little slut.
-
I'm a square.
-
Its not that I'm not keen,i refuse to sink to that level.

Is that because you want to exploit women, wear a loud shirt and drive a big car?if that's the case id find it hard to disagree.
-
With the irish terrier was it not the case that the red us were classed as wheatons and the Blue uns became Kerrys,?.
-
Most?ill concur, the decent uns are worth the wait.

The original poster,Cookland is a kc line of piss poor Deerhounds, you will have some that will attempt to make a name for a deerhound turd with a specific kc monicur, always because they own and sell such, for a monetary value that is higher at the shoulder than their work worthless mutt. The Deerhound offers far more to a working lurcher than anything else but a Collie,IMO,ive never yet to see a lurcher that offers as much, yet the vast majority of Deerhounds are about as much use as limp prick in a brothel, its a penis,it looks like a penis ,its useful to piss out of but not up to the job it was

Go to the nearest car boot and buy it a teddy,at 20p it will be far cheaper than another Kc deerhound turd.

With the old mk1 all you needed was the collar and you then tuned an old pocket radio to the collar,it was a case of marking the depth on the radio dial with a little trial and error.

At certain times a working dog is needed straight away,id pay an healthy amount of brass for the right dog at the time its most needed.Id rather breed my own or wait for a gift but theres nothing worse than getting into the season without a dog to enter.Ive had dogs nicked and been left with feck all,ive lost dogs and been left light and spent brass I could,nt really afford to get on again. The most I paid was £300 in the early eighties and that was a fortune to me,now that would be seen as small change for even a pup.

If you have owned and run a coursing bred mutt that made 16 years you will be aware that that type of runner commands a price often far higher than the average lurcher.Spend a lot less and source him a better lurcher.
-
Get the mutt knocking over a few day time bunnies, when it gets accustomed to the thrill of the chase and catch then get it used to the lamp. There are a multidude of lamping outfits readily available and most of them are suitable. Its then a case of educating the owner, then the dog,to the nuances of the lamp. Its far easier to get a leg on the ladder with a more educated lamper giving you a few trips and tips,if that's not possible then its a case of lamp and learn.

You must be fecking desperate to get me on side,i own poodles

Not recently, even In my time we had an habit of interrupting a gallop to dodge plod,it was part and parcel of owning a runner then. The art of coursing was the art of being undetected, impossible then, even more impossible now.If it was easier in my time ive nothing but admiration for the folk that take their chances now.
-
I ran the fens long before plod made a nuisance of themselves, the A1 corridor and my favourite location Pocklington. In all of those locations you dodged plod.If I needed to release a dog on a small slip id have sold it to the gyppo,s

The main lamping was always rabbit,if a lurcher failed to adapt to its given environment it was not a lurcher.Ive never seen a smaller lurcher with the same killing aptitude of something a tad bigger.
-
I now know your Achilles heel, its not about the battle but the conclusion of the war.Id much rather swap a difference of opinion with a like minded soul than with the majority of the nuggets on here.
-
A proper lurcher courses the land and retrieves to the owner undetected.

The best and finest lurcher that ive ever witnessed in the field, day and night, was a collie/greyXsaluki /grey.The best lamping lurcher ive ever witnessed was bred the same way.The only lurcher that matched these was a Collie/grey -Deerhoundy/grey that I owned, the lurcher I owned killed more than both of the others, day and night, they did it with more class.its impossible to equate class unless you see the runs, its impossible to equate runs to the class a deerhoundy/collie offers and id not own anything else. The further and more arduous the gallop, the more difficult the kill, then the Deerhoundy/
