  1. I like the clangers and was hoping for a soup dragon.Other than that id have opted for a certain type of pup to suit a cartain type of hunting, ill warrant you will have another clanger?
  2. Back then they where seldom bred for work when ribbon winners made more dosh and the majority of lakey owners then and now, especially in the North east, the ruination of the Lakey began when the North East lads recognised their value, the welsh lads kept it a tad more honest.
  3. pre dinner?,pre breakfast.
  4. 4 or 5,thats quenching a little thirst before you start drinking.
  5. Ive no idea about its work rate, the owners where possibly in the same situation because if we are to be honest they were seldom bred for their work ethic.
  6. It was a dog, gary did not want to sell it but was offered £400,at the time a massive amount and as GM said he had better at home so took the dollar,a little poetic license by GM because he certainly had a love of the dollar.
  7. Pre ban I had the luxury of hunting with a tad more freedom than the minority of lurcher owners now,ive nothing but massive admiration for the minority that refuse to be shackled now, massive admiration.I once owned lurchers with the capacity to hunt,a few have the same ambition now, well, well done.
  8. If you dare to own a dog at least work the fecking thing to its potential,to many soppy cnuts now that put more value on what they would like to do.
  9. Freedom, behave,if you got caught 40 years ago,30 years ago and 20 years ago,you got a poxy fine, its still the same now.The majority of times you are collared you can offer them £10 a month to pay the fine. The majority of plod are clueless when it comes to rural lurcher sport and you can get away with a fine most of the time.More savvy plod will take your motor, whoopy do,when they get a tad more serious the mutts are put In kennels until the court case, thats far more serious and worth consideration,a loss of liberty is usually down to the digging lads getting a tug and the lurcher owners with a
  10. I caught more before the advent of the mobile phone,i can remember a time when folk would scurry off looking for a landline to report you,the 20 minutes it took for them report your rural crime was 15 minutes less than it took you to make your escape, happy days.Did the mobile restrict your hunting lifestyle afterwards, did it feck,it made it a tad more awkward, awkward was never a reason for not unleashing the lurcher.
  11. I owned a bitch bred his way,Vandal,id own her again, one of the last conversations I had with GM was about a Lakey he won the Welsh game fair with,he sold it to DessyM.,from Ireland on the understanding it was kept there and was never to make its way back to England, especially the north east, apparantly DessyM bought the dog for the lads in the North east and it was the mainstay of there breeding. The majority of the Lakeys from the north east where bred for the show scene and dollar, their working aptitude was of lesser interest in the majority of the kennels there, kerching.
  12. I possibly don,t concur with you mucker, the art of the lurcher was daytime mooching, the lurcher and owner had the experience and nous to catch more than a rabbit and seldom needed the darkness to express their aptitude.Moderner technology as made it far easier for lesser souls and their lurchers to hunt.Technology is now the salvation of many, before its advent an awful lot of game was put to bed by folk and their charge possibly better at the game than the more modern and moderate now.
  13. The most important step for you, especially with your location,is firstly to get the mutt stock trained, when you believe its safe with stock then start its stock training again. While you are doing that its easiest to train it to a ferret in your own garden, contact, contact and contact,it does not take long to educate a mutt to a ferret, with wheaten in the mix you may have to be a tad firmer. All this time keep it basic with command, retrieve etc.,again keep the lessons short and simple and don,t get caught up in the fashion to overtrain the dog a few basics is far better than loads of useless trai
  14. Be careful because an awful lot of permission you will be offered, after trapping their moles, will not be worth having, feck all on the land to make it worth while.Getting your foot in the door in certain locations will give you a farmers name to bandy about on more productive hunting land.Farmers are suspicious and non trusting of hunters, especially in Yorkshire, when they know you have permission on a mates farm they are far more accomodating to a stranger,i had permission on some of the most worthless land, because of that I faired far better later on.
  15. Get yourself to the next livestock sale at Skipton,Otley is closer, hand out a few cards with your details and the fact you are willing to do some mole trapping, ill guarantee you will get a few jobs and the permission will follow, good luck.
  16. Folk that disparage dales rabbits have never ran them,i caught more in the Dales because there was more to catch,i caught less in other places because there was far less to run.I had an higher percentage catch rate away from the dales.A good lamper and his,or her lurcher, knew how to adapt and catch, the rest knew how to make excuses.
  17. the biggest problem with working Bedlingtons is folk believing the shite written on the working Bedlington forum ,its a forum for breeders of expensive turds and ego,s,the odd decent lad is lost in the murky waters of wankers and chancers. The vast majority of bedlingtons on sites like that don,t stand up to terrier work, neither do the owners.
  18. I don,t really care if I'm honest mucker,if I had attempted to state my case a little better I would have said that the most dedicated lurcher owners had an attitude that put them at odds with fellow owners. What I and many others strived to achieve with labour and sweat, many others attempted to achieve with the purchase of a ready made runner, when a few bred to become a tad better the majority bred to earn a crust.Again I'm not that bothered now but at times I find certain posts worth replying to,happy hunting.
  19. We must have crossed lamps at one stage or another, another time that we will never get back.Would you say the lurchers where better then? or where the times better?.I think those times will never be replicated,it was far more honest and the folk we lamped with where far more lurcher savvy.Happy fecking nights that live in memory.
  20. early 80,s for me,we offered £500 to hunt the land above the quarry, the farmer refused as he had pheasant shooters on the land,i never saw a pheasant up there,it was difficult to park because local plod lived in the houses just before the quarry and the petrol station grassed every dodgy bollocks to the plod,we used to park in the caravan park and take our chances,we took some serious numbers off that land.
  21. your easy to spout your shite ,ive put my name up now its your turn, fecking coward.
