Brand New To Hunting, Bought My First Air Rifle Today.
pianoman replied to Aaron Swanson's topic in Airgun Hunting
One thing with shooting experience of this DB4/Lion you have Aaron is, when you try a real quality rifle like an Air Arms or Weihrauch, you will see immediately what a hugely universal difference there is between this and those! Get practicing with it and a better scope and then move up. And you'll soon be boring every bugger here with tales of you HW80/"Dearly Beloved HW77"/TX200/Prosport as I do! Best wishes. Pianoman. -
Brand new condition Webley Xocet for thirty quid? Bloody hell I wish I could find deals like that! The Xocet was the successor to the Excell; and that was a cracking little gun. Another one of my regretted 'wish-I-still-had-it' rifles from my past. If this is one of the original Birmingham-built Webleys, you have a steal of a bargain. Does it have the short barrel with the Whack-off sized moderator on? They were a brilliant little carbine! Envious Pianoman!

Nothing wrong with a sweet-running '35 saintsman. I've owned one in the past and had no regrets other than selling it on for another HW air rifle. If you love your shotgun though, an air rifle will seem pretty limited by comparison. Air rifles are traditionally seen as the 'poor man's lot' of shooting and as such, air rifles are not endowed with similar ascending financial values in the way fine shotguns and hunting rifles are. I've spent fortunes on shooting in the past with a couple of shotguns and a .22LR myself, but, my air rifles are just magical. These embue every shooting skill-vi

From reading Matt the Rat's response and all this, I reckon it's possible that, there's a son or two of these Allotment people who have got the air rifle hunting bug and they've asked their mums and dads to boot you off while he/they take over the permission and get the sport. Could this be mate? That happens with permissions and owners alas Si mate, and nowt' you can do beyond reason if they want you off. Still, on with the next! Best wishes Si. Simon

Hi Phil. Just to add to Tron's excellent reply. British Firearms Law stipulates that an air rifle must not exceed a power output of 12 foot pounds at the muzzle. (For an air pistol, the limit is 6 Foot pounds at the muzzle) In other words, a pellet fired from an air rifle in the UK must not exceed this power limit within 12 inches of travel in free air from the end of the muzzle; whereafter, the pellet is expected to slow down and fall to earth.. If it does not, but is found to be more powerful than this, it is classed as a firearm and must be licenced and registered on a UK Firearms Certifi

Returning to Air-Rifles - BSA or Weihrauch ?
pianoman replied to Hudson's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Go for a Weihrauch or Air Arms spring rifle and you won't go wrong. To be honest, I cannot see why some people spend over a thousand quid on a PCP when a well-set up HW77, HW80, HW97, HW95 or a TX200/Prosport will match it for accuracy at less than half the cost and none of the hassle of filling it with air from pumps and diving bottles. All of these springers will punch single hole groups at decent ranges and that's as accurate as you can get. Or am I missing something? (terrible pun!) Pianoman -
Anyone Wash And Lube For Hunting?
pianoman replied to salop sniper's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
In my honest opinion, yes all round! My HW77 .22 performs to its best on H&N FTT washed and lubed with a very light coat of WD40 oil. Just a film of it is all to keep from dieselling and provide an accurate and efficient pellet and keeps the barrel clean. Not tried this stuff you speak of, but, if your mate swears by it, it must be doing some good! ATB. Pianoman -
Ah,,of course ,silly me!

Hi Aaron. Well any start is better than nothing . The scope's not worth a bobbin though! You'll soon outshoot the rifle you have and will go on to something better! -
Best Ft Lbs For A Target Rifle
pianoman replied to Darrenm's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
No offence intended but, It could be your technique needs a little refinement Darren? Sandwell Field Sport's tuning is absolutely first class and your superdome pellet would come recommended by them as the best for the rifle, I would have thought. If your 20mm groups are consistent then. the rifle and pellet is showing consistency but your hold is not! Without watching you shoot I cannot comment much further but you should be a lot tighter at this range, than this. You haven't said what calibre but, I'm guessing it's .177 as you wish to use it for HFT. It could be a running-in or sett -
Not sure what you mean ghillies. Beefing up to 50 to 55 Feet per second? Mine is tuned to 21.3 Ft/lbs and that's enough for me!

Hi Sean. You could fit a Parker Hale silencer which compliments the shrouded barrel very well as it's just about the same width and will add about 7-8 inches to length. Simon

Not currently Tom. They are both sub 12 ft/lbs rifles. I had a TX200HC .177 on ticket and it was an amazingly accurate rifle. On AA Fields it was accurate to genuine one-hole groups at 45 metres. It was a precision high velocity air rifle that could take out a woodpigeon or Corvid at some really long range distances. However,.... I had a few horrific instances with hitting rabbits clean through the head without actually hitting the brain and they would scream and run in agony. If they moved just as I fired it could result in serious woundings. Not by any means always, but, enough to r

Try SPORTSMATCH 2-PIECE. DOUBLE HEX CLAMP for your HW80 Daniel. I use these always. I never use anything else on all my rifles and I don't have a single problem with them on my FAC HW80. And she delivers a bit more recoil than sub-12 ft/lb rifles do. 2-piece Sportsmatch mounts give infinitely better adjustment and positioning of the scope over the cylinder for your eye than single-piece; and stay put once you nip them up. Agreed with the lads replies. You won't regret it mate! I use mine to shoot Mink and Rabbit to normal, sensible air rifle ranges. The power gets the pellet to the target very fast and very decisively! And it gives your shooting a longer reach if you can take longer range shots accurately!
