My Mink Fishing While My Little Girl Plays In The Water
toolebox replied to Minkenry's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
great wee hunters, thanks for sharing. -
Its all part of the madness that is the human race.Breeds due to too much showing and little or no field testing has lead to a huge amount of dogs /breeds unable to do the very job that they were bred for many years ago so ....shame on the kennel clubs and their toffy nose breeders. Many Many years years ago if the dog didnt fill the bag or couldnt do the job for which it was bred..... it was culled.A wild dog isnt required these days we in fact have plenty of good working stock out there but we need to stop looking for some MAGIC cross or breed and fine tune and hard cull the ones we already

Thats very true ,the dingo can SURE run fast even in the heat ,its unmatched .When a mate bred some first cross dingo into his pighunting pack he only got a dog that was lazy and targeted the wee pigs which it would kill ,eat and .........take a well earned nap .

All wild dogs share the same Instinct to target the weak and old ,they cant afford to get damaged as then they couldnt catch the next meal.theres nothing wrong with the working stocks we already have as long as we breed from working stock and cull hard the breed can only improve,we only go wrong with breeding show stock with litte or no field testing ,thats the very reason we have breeds that can no longer do the job, they were bred for many years ago.

Steve came out to Nz and is doing full time rabbit control now.Hes bred his dog (1/2 GSD 1/2 Greyhound )Zapper back to a pure greyhound .The off spring were very racey, but not my type of dog ,he now breeds White GS which he also works in the field again not my type of dog.

Time placed into her training early is always repayed ten fold ,the rest is just natural ,shown plenty of game will see her return with her best ,but its not a given that any dog will be a top dog given plenty of work, some dogs are just born natuals and only require a limited amount of training .Terriers can be very hard headed but that doesnt mean they are stupit ,they just require reminding whos in charge a little more often than some other types of dogs .

Great shooting ,enjoyed the watch.Thanks

Hare Coursing In The Desert Southwest (Usa)
toolebox replied to Dan McDonough's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Does it REALLY matter if a overseas dog in some part of the world could or couldnt catch one of these Jackrabbits ,99.9% arent going to get the chance, its all sport and its very hard to tell from a video,if a brown hare can run as fast or as far as a jackrabbit ,who the hell cares ,I just enjoyed the watch without judging. -
I enjoyed that ,thanks for sharing mate.
-
Ive got a foxy (type of Jack Russell ) x whippet ,handy sort of dog will post up a picture on here ,once I remember to take one of "Taz ".
-
A good ferret is truely worth its weight in GOLD ,they are prized and return any effort and time ten fold .Ten years is a good working life for a ferret .He will ALWAYS live on in youre mind ,as you recall the great days sport you enjoyed together .

In one of those pictures ,you can plainly see that Nothing is going to stop that wee bitch incuding barbed wire.

Whereabouts in NZ fella? Deep South ,a couple of hours away from here is central Otago where rabbits can be found in HUGE numbers . This was the result of one night using a PCP air rifle ,however for the most part I use the bushing dogs and shotgun & all the usual tools one has in youre country ,long nets purse nets ,ferret .I hardly fire a shot as the pack knows what it takes as some in their working life have been involed in catching up wards of 10,000 rabbits .What Ive found is with alot of hunting the average dog becomes a fully experienced average dog ,a good dog becomes a good

I hunt rabbits for a living ,mostly over a big pack of bushing dogs ,in New Zealand ,I like them to yap ,running slience is no good to me nor the others of the pack ,I dont know a rabbit has "lifted" .The noise helps move the rabbit around ,if it goes to ground I beleve it was always going to go there but at least with some noise I know where its gone .Ive found great dogs come in all shapes & sizes but If you can get a tidy spaniel x beagle or spaniel x JR terrier thats my choice of busher ,but its always a team effort that sees the game bag full .
-
Those ARE good sized rabbits ,what make is the rifle ?
-
Ive got to go back this weekend ,so Im keen on trying the red led torch mounted on top of my scope when Im taking the shot ,this lights doesnt seem to upset them as the white light has begun too .

The Aussie bush tailed possum or coon as its become known as, was brought & releasted in NZ for its fur value & skins a number years ago ,but with no natural enermys, the numbers build up and have caused huge problems ,eating their way though tons of our bush each nite.A good healthy possum can weight 4 kgs & can be a very tuff animal to kill with alot of meat on light bones ,head shots must be placed in the very right spot to kill one .Ive taken about 12 full grown of these with the air arms S510 and a number required a finishing shot.Very tuff animal indeed.

now does any one how to turn these damn pictures ?

_130638.jpg] Thanks guys ,great help .

Nice shooting .

My rifle likes the Diabolo field pellets 15.9 grains ,prints them on a target of them touching at 50 yards
-
Total of rabbits on 4 trips is now 1640,some were long netted over the ferret but most were taken with the S510 at night ,Ive had to switch to a red Led torch while taking the shot as they are a tad jumply in the white light now.How do you post up a picture ?
-
Thanks for posting ,I found it a very interesting read.

I've managed several black ones this year but havnt had a ginger for a few years now ,damn you man ! but 65 rabbits without the use of any net is a fine tally for any one & a great days sport . !
