  1. I think that last line pretty much sums it all up ,during our life our dogs be they workers or just a valued pet leave us and are gone but they are never forgotten .
  2. I enjoyed that video ,I bet the finger nail bite brought tears to your eyes ,the flesh underneath is tender along with a lot of nerves .
  3. Quick up date ,two of the pups have stopped shaking and that only leaves one and shes not that badly effected ,they are gaining weight and are starting to play & chew bones just like normal pups .early days yet ,but its a good sign .
  4. No not at this stage ,but going by the the time frame ,vet and the symptoms Im sure this is what they have ,Its the very first time Ive ever heard about it .A mutated gene seems to be the cause of lack of a white coating around the nerves called myelin .When this protective sheath is too thin, as in hypomyelination, the electrical impulses can get lost between nerves and cause the nerves and corresponding muscles to malfunction.
  5. From what I've read ,there are two possible out comes depending on which area is effected & the key seems to be the age that the syndrome starts .Some pups were badly effected so I put them down ,atm I have 3 left,of which two are only slightly effected (now 6 weeks old ).I wont breed from the bitch or pups nor will I pass them on to anybody else ,just going to see what happens for the next days ,weeks ,months .
  6. Has any one had a litter of running dogs that have had this condition, its passed on from either the Sire or Dam,vet advice is do nothing and by 5/6 months old those that recover will show no signs of the syndrome,it appears to be due to very close breeding ,but Im not sure .It appears to effect a number of breeds ,but whippets and greyhounds are not mentioned on any lists Ive seen .
  7. Just thought if they dropped it might cause some problems .Yes our dogs would target coons here if I allowed them, over rabbits due to the fight in the coon, but mine just don't bother as they know what is required of them .
  8. Just small packs ,of lurchers and bushers or does this just cause a raft of problems ?
  9. I've owned 3 ACDs and would have to agree with your view of the breed,I have a mate that runs cattle station in FNQ and he includes a little heeler blood with his mainly handy type collies for stock work and he gave me the same view as you have ,so I think that's a fair over view of the ACD..
  10. Its natural for wolves to make a kill and they eat as much as they can as quickly as they can ,before a bear gets wind of a free feed .Then the pack may not make another kill for several days ,its natures way of balancing her self ,if the predators killed on every hunt & bred up in numbers they would simply run out of game to hunt ,dogs are in fact wolves we humans have bred down ,so I base my feeding system on that ,even with my ferrets ,I make sure they clean up what they have and then I wait a short period.
  11. Im sure everybody has their own ideas ,but all 25 of my rabbit dogs work 6 /7 hours a day ,some times 6 days in a row,so they need fed and fed the right food.I give them a big feed every second night & the nights between feeds they get a meaty bone .These dogs are housed in out door kennels ,this system has worked well for me over the years and it suits me .Im lucky ,my feeding food bill is only small change and only when i have weaned pups ,I raid the local butchers shop drums twice a week ,where all the trimed waste bones and unwanted trimings go ,at times its sheep meat waste ,another d
  12. My greyhound bitch gave birth to 9 pups ,however two dropped off before I decided to top the pups up until her milk started to flow,so I'm pleased to report the milks arrived and the pups are doing very well now .Sire is a whippet.
  13. They take eating to another level.
  14. RCV only killed a small number of hares in aussie, and over twenty years ago it killed over 90% of rabbits in Nz but slowly they built back up again till at this point most are unaffected by RCV and the population in some places higher than before the release back then, nature balances it all out given time .
  15. Looks great ,steven is a good number to give you plenty of choices if plan on keeping some .
  16. No these are bred as bushers & pushers in a twenty strong rabbit pack .Will see if I can load up some pictures .
  17. No not in NZ so was wondering what it was ?
  18. sorry but given that I live in Nz and there for we don't have foxes I don't think I can comment .I bred a pure JR type of terrier to beagle.I have 3 of these two unrelated & a bitch breed out of the pair with the Dam in pup atm to the same dog. They nomaly throw towards the beagle in looks but behave much like half way between the two breeds .
  19. Its a great feeling to get a ferret back after a stop over ,two out together would cause me lack of sleep that night .A tracking collar fitted gives me peace of mind ,its not about digging as I might only dig once every year or couple of years .The collar gives me a idea where my ferrets are at all times ,that saves alot of guessing on my part and allows me to put my ferrets out in heavy cover if need be .
  20. I did spot the blood on the cage handle & thought that doesn't look good .
  21. Must be a real bitch at times running out and picking up the long net in that long dead grass and fern, enjoyed the watch cheers JT
  22. That photo clearly shows how much skill the dog requires to catch a small fast moving target ,mollys strike is outstanding ,years of this trade has taught her the skills and shes still applying them even at her age .Bloody outstanding to see .
  23. out standing shot that one .
