  1. The above boar didnt go down lightly .The light tan fella wasn't a big dog but he had a huge prey drive ,the pigs tusk entered just above the eye lid ,it looked very bad but the cloudy eye clear away within a couple of days and he was just as keen the very next weekend .
  2. pig hunting country & one of the biggest boars I and the dogs managed to catch.132kgs
  3. Tomo South Island ,down in the deep south, home of the 6 fingered hands lol
  4. Tomo South Island ,down in the deep south, home of the 6 fingered hands lol
  5. you were well and truly in bro land there sir ,one wrong word and you may of walked into the toilet only to be carried out and spending time in a hospital bed ,however they clearly thought you were only a mad harmless pommy .lol
  6. Now he looks one hell of ALOT like mine same coat ,VERY same markings from what I can recall as he's been gone a few years now .Id like to get another but a nice working line is almost impossible to find here now . I can clearly see Ted holding his tail well up is full of him self & keen to take on the world .
  7. Its nice when a keen hunter can look at the big picture and place importants to their charges welfare even if it means a parting of ways ,all the best sir. I hope life is kind & fruitful to you .
  8. That RHVD is a killer and can be carried from spot to spot via boots or clothes so be careful with damp gear ,the Bug as I like to call it took a huge toll on Nz rabbit populations 20 years ago, now its not working at all in some areas ,however it can take years for them to recover given that the bug can wait up to a year for a host to reappear.Great pictures there by the way ,love viewing dogs working ,its close to my heart & something we hunters never get enough of ,ATB sir .
  9. I love a good parson Terrier ,I've had both a male and female ,they are very tuff dogs .
  10. Yes I have run trap lines of up to 100 leghold traps both for the valuable fur and the great dog tucker they provide .
  11. Yes Tomo you are right there are rules around the keeping of ferrets in NZ & only a very small number of operators have them now ,a great cry from yester year when they were kept by plenty. Yes 3 coons known as all of the following /possums ,tree monkeys ,coons are about a 12lb animal that climbs & feeds on plants and trees which it can climb straight up aided by huge craws and a tail that works like a extra leg.For a small terrier they are a test, very tuff & fight like hell using big teeth to hang on with .My dogs are not allowed to target them,in fact are trained to only targe
  12. Out and about last week the pup in the foreground is a 6 month old beagle x foxy that's just started her working adventures & shes loving it all .Mac the black & white dog to the right is one I bred, a whippet terrier mix who has that x factor, given a little more age and rabbits he's shaping up to be a champ.
  13. thanks chap Ive posted up a few pictures in another post as I don't want to steal this one .
  14. Bell the foxy( A type of terrier mix much like the american rat terrier)lets nothing stand in her way when there's a rabbit to be had !Foxy's are not only great hunters but lighting fast in heavy cover .
  15. You would be held prisoner in a bed room along with the farmers twin 25 year old daughters and allowed only to go out chasing rabbits and down to the local watering hole (pub) where you would never pay for a single drink for years .
  16. Now here's the tricky part ,this is Sugar a whippet x bird dog mix .She along with Freddy ,mocca ,Bean (not pictured yet )all came out of the same Dam called coffee .no I didn't name them either apart from Freddy.
  17. I was a keen pig hunter but these days my legs have worn out & I now require a couple of new knees .Doc said its either pig hunting then a wheelchair or rabbiting & alot more time before the damn wheelchair lol so simply put pighunting don't pay the bills & with more time I may not make the chair lol . At times we carried huge boars for miles up and down steep ruff hills ,this fella weighted in at about 160 lbs .pictured at the end of a 3 hour carry of about a mile ,not far but in tight think country it was further than it damn sounds .....far further
  18. First time out for this lad,who lacks a father ,cool wee guy to spend time with & he loved it !! Big fat rabbits are found in central .
  19. Nice weekend away in central ,enjoyed by all .The wee dog to the left is what we term a foxy (terrier mix),behind her is mocca, a wirehaired pointer /spaniel/terrier mix , to the right is a terrier /beagle/whippet mix part of a 20 year old line and the tan and white dog is one of the better all rounders I've had ,he's a JR x ESS.
  20. Freddy the mad one was named after Freddy fender lol is a whippet pointer mix
  21. The dogs chased a rabbit out of the woodlot as you guys call it into a wet underground tommo ,one I wasn't keen on entering so I just sent "snow" the ferret to tidy bunny up.Zac is a whippet JR mix .
  22. Yes however I treat it as sport & I hunt over 100,000 acres or 170 odd farms ,and after 20 odd years I know all the spots where rabbits hide out in yet I still manage to catch 1200/1400 in a good year.I simply don't view it as a job more like a hobbie I get paid for.I have a golf course up in central Otago I work once a month & because central otago is dry & warm it has a HUGE rabbit problem, there are thousands upon thousands of em ,I kid you not .Off 108 has Ive accounted for over 3,000 in 2-1/2 years .The picture to the right is one of the many local spots that requires a visi
  23. pigs or deer ,nobody is interested in small game apart from going out for a night shoot on the back of a truck driven by the farmer ,its like world war 3 and not my style .
  24. Jett is a ruff coated working lurcher ,1/2 greyhound 1/4 wirehaired pointer ,1/4 lab .He's about a year old in that picture & now he's about 4 years old ,hes filled out nicely .He gives 120% every day and has accounted for a huge number of rabbits and a good number of hares .
