  1. My boy has just turned 11 and he has been on at me to do an overnight fishing trip with him for a while. Decided to tie it in with a trip in the Canadian canoe. We packed up our kit and set off at 6PM. First off we decided to trawl from the canoe with a lure as we paddled. About a mile into it we had a bend in the rod and line started to pay out. Rod in hand he reeled in a cracking bass at about 3lb. His first one and a big smile on his face! We carried on around the headland and landed on the beach. Once the tent was up we collected some wood and got the fire on the go. Just as the sun starte
  2. I know of one that does the usual lurcher work but also works along side the gun and wildfowls. They guy has had the time to put into him but I have to admit he has done a great job. Funny thing is.......this is a handcock dog that he rescued off a lad that wasn't looking after it properly. It was nearly a year old when he took him on. He admits that with the time he has put into it that most dogs would be at the same standard. I disagree!
  3. Wifi is a new concept here Dave!! Will see you at the fishing comp
  4. Cheers Walshie. Have been doing that but it's been saying 'file too big'
  5. Can you only load one pic to each post though?
  6. As said, a cracking looking dog. I loved getting out as a kid and I'm lucky that both my lads do. The eldest is happy to go whenever but my youngest would lamp every night if he could! You should both have some fun this season. ATB.
  7. Sire 1st x collie x Grey Dam 1st x malinois x Grey Thanks Really like the look and sound of this dog. What's he been like to train so far?I have to say pretty easy, natural really, confident and easy going, great in kennel, good nose and obedient naturally. A good mix thanks ? Good news. Be good to see his progress this season. A cross I would certainly be interested in. Good luck with him.
  8. Sire 1st x collie x Grey Dam 1st x malinois x Grey Thanks Really like the look and sound of this dog. What's he been like to train so far?
  9. Nice bitch that fox pack. Good condition fair play
  10. Mine is mainly white. I personally don't think it makes a difference for lamping.
  11. Thanks mate. He always seems to have a decent coat on him. He's fed well and walked well!!
  12. Yes mate. He's doing ok. Will be pushing him on after the summer. Cheers
  13. He's doing ok mate. Been in cover since he was 5 months old. Steady enough ferreting and puts enough out for the runner. Mate had a cracking terrier bitch he was working along side so that brought him on no end. She's no longer with us which is a shame. Hopefully I will have him out more in the season and see how he gets on. Can't fault his temperament.
  14. 3/8 terrier 5/8 spaniel. He looks more like the terrier side. The rest of the litter has thrown much more towards the spaniel.
  15. I've been here 25 years now. My mates still call me it!! We certainly got the best of everything.
  16. Only just realised that the pup is now 1. Time flies!! Would be interested to see how the rest of the litter are doing? They were bred by Lee Green off here.
  17. Went out on the kayak off Beer in east Devon yesterday. Had nothing. They were in down at Torquay a good couple of weeks ago and in good numbers. Will try again next weekend!!
  18. I lived up there for over ten years but didn't have the dogs back then. I still work up there most weeks and get a bit of lamping in. Good mooching too. Have to agree with chunky11.....there's some great fishing!!
  19. Pretty small for that cross then. If the beddy x greyhound suits you then maybe go for the same, but look to find a breeding where the pups should reach about 24-26tts? Deerhound/grey x beddy grey would be a nice cross.
  20. How big is your beddy x greyhound? This cross should be big enough/game enough to do everything you want.
  21. The only thing that will ever guarantee a dog not going to ground is the size. I have seen cockers and springers do it if the hole was big enough!! Obv the more terrier in the mix then the chance is greater. I think you can train them not to up to a certain point but, like you say once on scent who knows. You are just reducing the chance I think by going more to the spaniel. Having said that, the best bushing dog I have seen and probably will ever see was a JRT. A very high drive but she never went to ground. If she would have had pups I would have taken the risk and had one in a heart beat.
  22. Best thing I ever did was get myself a busher mate. I waited and was lucky enough to get a spaniel x terrier off here. The lurcher now gets to see a lot more stuff when we are out and it's good company for him when I'm at work. You won't regret it. Get a pup if you can mate. They aren't like lurcher pups as in you don't need to hold them back. My one was in the cover from 6 months and hasn't stopped since. Hope you find something soon. ATB
  23. Kev. We are all gutted and just hope Martha pulls through. Told the kids about the crock earlier and they are in tears. We loved looking after her and it's going to take some dog to fill them boots. A massive loss to our little team. Times like this you got to think why we do it. Heart breaking. Special dog and a special bond. Having worked with her for the last few years we know deep down we won't get another like her. Any future busher half as good would be welcome. Some might find it hard to believe, but my 2 dogs wouldn't be nowhere near where they are now without Bella having put what she
