  1. Had my youngest lad today and we have been snowed in for a few days. I asked him what he wanted to do today.....skate park? Bike ride? No Dad can we take the dogs out!! We headed to a bit of ground that holds a few rabbits and not many people go there. The busher was on fire and the lurcher was struggling to keep up. Haven’t been here for a while so we had a few more bolts than normal. A range of cover from thick brambles to tall grass and bracken. Lurcher was marking well and needless to say the lad had a great time. A few good runs and a couple of decent catches. Perfect afternoon. ATB
  2. I’m heading out early doors tomorrow for a decent walk. Can’t drive anywhere for work so will make the most of the day.
  3. Yep being out there is good enough for me. It’s an hour drive for me to Okehampton but worth it. Going to start heading to different areas of the moor now.
  4. I wanted him for bushing to the lurcher, mooching and ferreting. I didn’t want to go for terrier because I wanted to limit the possibility of going to ground....he has had the chance to but hasn’t done of yet. This litter came up and really suited. Both parents were proven spaniel x terriers (various spaniels and terriers in the mix) so I went for it. If I was doing more on the hill I would go for a beagle/spaniel/terrier type next.
  5. There was snow when I left and was surprised when I got there and there was none. He is spaniel x terrier mate.
  6. You could spend days up there mate. There’s some great areas off the beaten track to explore.
  7. Had a day owed to me and fancied getting up on the moor whilst we had the weather. Had an area in mind where we have had a couple of decent runs in the past. Unfortunately the military ranges were open when I got there so I moved to a new area. Mid week is really quiet up there and I only bumped into 2 other people all day. Cold wind but the sun was up and visibility was good. Been up there in all types of weather but cold with the sun up is unbeatable. Seen a couple of rabbits in the lower cover and the lurcher followed a couple of lines higher up which just ended at great piles of rocks. Alt
  8. Think there’s a difference between picking runs and not bothering at all. If there’s a rabbit sat a couple of feet from cover and my dog is way off then I wouldn’t expect him or even want him to go full throttle. He will always stalk though. If you think there is a slight chance the dog could catch and he doesn’t run, then this is normally where dog and owner fall out! I would always want a dog to run any rabbit I choose on the lamp and I get most mine from either rabbit errors at the hedge or my dog going in and grabbing them just inside the hedge. Daytime he will watch some rabbi
  9. He will be up and running before you know it. Been great watching him come one these last few months. Besides......I have a little soft spot for the great lump!!
  10. My old man had kennels when we were growing up. 2 dogs came in for boarding. An adult and a pup. The owners were hell bent on them sharing a kennel and my old man advised that they hadn’t known each other long enough. The owners were adamant and they went in together. Early morning we went in to walk and clean the kennels......only the one dog in the pen! Adult dog had killed and eaten the whole thing. The only thing left was a bit of skin and some fur. Try explain that when the owners come back from holiday!
  11. Someone on here will have a decent tall racey lurcher I’m sure. Good luck with it.
  12. It’s a risk to see which way the pups will throw if you used the half cross. If it’s a bull x you are wanting over her then a decent line bred racey type will do the trick. You got to be 100% sure it’s the right dog and 100% sure if breeding off her is the right thing to do. ATB
  13. Yep 24/25 is ideal. I go out with bigger dogs and they work well. Anything over 25 wouldn’t fit in the car!!
  14. Yes Bird the greyhound has added size to yours. I just think that sometimes, straight greyhound isn’t always the answer. I have seen nice dogs who are capable workers that are from a lurcher to straight greyhound. For me an all rounder doesn’t need to be 27tts plus. My dog is 24tts and suits just fine. The right greyhound might be the answer here but personally I would go for a lurcher option. ATB.
  15. Guess it depends on how big you want the pups to turn out. If you are after bigger pups for allrounders, then why not use a fast bigger racy lurcher that is doing the job. Safest bet in my eyes mate. ATB
  16. I reckon 24tts if he’s already 20tts at 4 months. Maybe bigger! How big were the sire/dam? Nice looking pup and nice cross. Glad the old dog is up and about. ATB.
  17. Interesting cross that. Looks a strong type. Atb
  18. Mine has 1/4 saluki and that is plenty for me. First time owning anything with saluki blood in. I admit that he has certain ways but I believe the dash of collie has also helped. He’s fitted in just fine around the house and family and does everything I need him to. He has his moments and has the odd sulk. Otherwise he’s good enough for me. ATB
  19. Brilliant that. Loved the look of this litter. Bright happy pup there
  20. It always seems to be the way. You get them to just where you want them and something happens. My dog was doing well and came back to me the other day with a massive knock. Hope they make a full recovery!
  21. Looks just the job for lamping and ferreting. Atb
  22. I would definitely have a look at some of the dogs that Newkid has mentioned from Haymins litter. I have seen a few of them and they seem to be just the job. Newkid’s bitch has wind and speed......I’m sure some of the dogs will have this too. ATB
