  1. I had the same problem with the deerhunter ram jacket,I am looking around now for some new gear, but it is a case of finding the right brands, you know the one's, the one's without 200% markup, cos seriously they take the p*** in this country with clothes,
  2. Hi mate, good choice o calibre in the .22 hornet. Are you sure the cz is 1:14 twist they are normally 1:16 ? I have a Ruger 77/22 K hornet and this is a 1:14 twist barrel so I load a 50Gn sierra varminter blitz, with 12.6 Gn of lilgun--absolutely devastating on foxes out to 200Yds. because of the rotary mag I can also load to 1.800" and still fit in.. Have fun. LD sorry yes I think it might be 1in16 I got mixed up the 223 is 1in12
  3. Cheers mate I am looking forward to using it,I have heard that they have poor case life, what do you find,I suppose its like any case if its loaded too hot,I know with my 223 and 6.5x55 I do resize the full case, but will definatley give the neck sizeing a try for the hornet, again thanks for that,
  4. Does any of you have pet loads for the 22 hornet,I have got rid of my 17 hmr and have just got hold of a 22 hornet, its a cz american second hand, with a 1 in 14 twist,I have not picked it up yet, every body I know love the caliber, and I want a general vermin gun,I already load for my other rifles, but I was just wondering what loads people were favouring for general use,I will start buying books and printing information off around the caliber,as I have all the dies to source and stuff, I thought I would get an heads up on them any info would be great thanks,
  5. Main thing take your time,if you can get any friends to let you try there's,dont rush as there's loads out there, one will come along at the right price, if you know anybody who goes to the local clay club, try and get a few visits them lads they will help point you in right direction, dont be tempted to buy then swap, then buy then swap, make an informed decision, and once you get one get a few lessons with it,over and under, side by side, semi auto its all a matter of preference,I would try to go for a single trigger multi choke,in whatever fitted me the best,
  6. You can get cheap speakers for your phone,I have the predator calls, on mine but they are in practical you want to be hunting not f*****g about with the phone,
  7. thanks mate ............ you'd think there would be a range finder app too. I think there is yes,the ballistics one's I am aware of are, isnipe, bulletdrop, bulletflight,if thats any help,
  8. They do ballistic apps for the rifle men,
  9. Trespass in pursuit of game, probably could get done for it, but they have to prove that's what you were doing walking a pup is not in pursuit of game, other wise anybody who walks a dog, runs the risk of prosecution even the townies who let there dogs go frantic across Heath land chasing deer in all directions, or through town parks remember the burden of proof is in there court,
  10. Well this is what riles me, this country you are innocent till proven guilty beyond any reasonably doubt, not guilty till proven innocent like they want you to believe,in scotland as far as I know and no doubt someone will put me right, there are no laws against trespass, provided no damage is done,so I would doubt the officers knowledge, the problem is police resourcing, probably means that you got a town bobby who was the only one available as a response to complaints,he probalby has little knowledge,of the country side, dont let this give you nightmares, and write down times and dates every time
  11. Brilliant well done that looks well worth a try,
  12. They are a waist of time and money, the whole system needs sorting,
  13. That looks good mate,
  14. I find to keep them outside for first couple of years is best,it stops the family creating inconsistancy with the training commands, and in my opinion the dog learns its place in the pack,I do however make sure the dogs interact with all the family, but its usually when I am about, once the dog gets to two yr old I start to bring them in a little at a time, and socialise them more into the family enviroment, and up to now it has served me well, the old man once said to me, "A young dog kept in a house, is like a woman on hooked on chocolate, they end up fat and morngy," Thats open to interp
  15. Eat them yourself, there's nothing wrong with it,and if you can eat it so can the dogs,if they turn there noses up you aren't working them hard enough,my dogs will eat what's put down for them,
  16. My little teckel, will hunt around and stand over a trap if its caught, the whippet will too but not as acurate as the teckel, she will go mad if she senses one under ground, but she's dosent seem quick enough to catch them,
  17. Here we go again, another round of ban the dogs,
  18. Hey up mate I do use both at times, although I favour tunnel traps, but without doubt they are handy for some situations, as to which is best is a matter of opinion nomol are easyier to get hold of, and I suppose cheaper but the trapline are good,I find in established runs in sand I sometimes think the tynes / jaws dont open wide enough,so for ease of purchese nomols for me,
  19. Just to let people know ,I have been asked to post this on behalf of jreathdog,(Ian) he is experiencing problems with his computer, it has crashed, and he is unable to reply to people, so anyone who has tried to contact him via pm or is awaiting a response to any question in particular ,he sends his apologies, he is trying to sort the issue, Cheers Darren
  20. It all depends how the bank is constructed, as in if they had to bring a lot material in to construct it, the ones we ferreted as kids were fine, like any other set you are supposed to get permission and I don't really know if they still give authority, as a kid we never did, but some of these sets can get quiet extensive, have you tried long netting them, or snaring on the boundary fence,is the line being used or disused, I would imagine now if they saw you ferreting on the banking, BTP will come a knocking fairly quickly,
  21. Well my mate asked me to post this picture of his redline airdale, buddy, some on this thread will probably recognise the dog,my mate has worked this dog for seven yrs or so,the lad in question wont suffer fools, and wont fire his mouth off unduly,he has read this thread and wants to assure all involved a working airedale will cope with anything we will throw at them in this country, and is well able to cope as a good all rounder,on all legal quarry, This is one examle when he shot 9 pidgeons in heavy snow, if it hadnt have been for his airedale retrieving them,he is adamant he would only ha
  22. I must admit I've only had experience of one Airedale, but that definitely isn't the case with mine, but of course I've not tried her on boar, bear or cougar. I doubt anyone would want their dog to go one on one with something that large, but smaller, toothed quarry is a walk in the park for my bitch, though it must be said that she's not fast enough to catch one s/h in the open.So will your puppies come with the same promise that they won't let you down,or will there be the same clause that if it does it needs another year or you did something wrong entering it.Brian plumber springs to mind
  23. They are smart looking dogs, jreathdog a real credit to you, the more I see these dogs the more driven I am to hunt with one,
  24. I don't know who looks keener him or the ferret, spot on, you got a top enthusiastic hunting partner there ,who you can trust I hope you have many days like it,
  25. I know I will own one of these dogs everything about them, fascinates me,my farther said they were the best dogs he ever saw but couldn't afford one, thankyou very much for your write up, it has answered a lot of things for me, I am focusing on getting one next yr and would love some blood line info, what's good and not, I don't buy show dogs,or dogs too closely bred, and love dogs with real prey drive, and it's good to read a post from someone with real depth of knowledge,
