  1. Looks like snow, with the flash bouncing off those raindrops! Go to agree, there are some cracking reports and pics coming in from everybody, and apart from good humoured 'crack' I'm reading this one more than the rifle section now, which seems to have gone a bit quiet. I don't even have a dog anymore, unfortunatley, but I love the write ups from those that have. I just wish I could get out as many times as some of you with the ferrets, but with two young lads they love their shooting anything that moves (within reason off course)so we spend a lot of times doing that. Took them out this a
  2. CZ varmint barrel. But to be fair I have no experience of the Marlin.
  3. We built great garden walls. Offahs Dyke and Hadrians wall and for Socks.....................I am only joking
  4. Great experience for your son, and I bet he can't wait to go again! 9's a bloody good do, and I'm guessing that was one drop. Well done.
  5. SEALSKINZ AINT KNOWN FOR KEEPING YOU WARM, DRY YES BUT NOT WARM, WHEN I SEEN FOLK USE THEM IN THE ARMY THEY ALL USED LINERS AS THE HANDS WHERE STILL ALWAYS COLD, AN THICKER WARMER GLOVES HAD TO BE REMOVED TO DO SOME A THE MORE FIDDLY DRILLS, HENCE THE REASON GLOVES ARE USELESS They keep you warm because they are windproof. Sealskinz are designed to be tightfitting and mine you certainly could not wear liners with. Any wind and waterproof glove keeps your hands warmer than no gloves at all. I simply answered a question and having used them in some pretty cold winters, I think they are better
  6. Stop being a fanny. But I know somebody who has a pair of sealskinz and they keep my hands warm!, and are great for shooting. I try not to use gloves for ferreting but they would be good although they ain't cheap. If I do wear any I try and get away with a pair of palmless and fingerless leather backed gloves. (mitts)
  7. Seany. We also use a trap called a midden in the peaks. It is an area of land in either scrub or rushes that is fenced off, to stop sheep and dogs getting into it, and then if necessary a few tracks from its outer edge cutting to its centre. Where the track meets the wire, a small opening is cut or the bottem of the wire lifted. Dead stuff is then placed in the centre of the midden, and the tracks are snared up. The principal is that the foxes scent the dump of dead bait, (hence the name midden) go under the fence and get caught in the snare. They are very effective in the right place and work
  8. Nice interesting write up and some great pictures. The one with the bottle was interesting as one of the places I go has an old midden near the surface, probably from the nearby ruined house, and last year I picked up a perfect old bottle from there, the sort with the glass ball in the neck. I got it cleaned up and its now in the kitchen. It doesn't look easy netting up on some of those holes, but you had a decent enough bag. Thanks for sharing.
  9. Good stuff lads, and well done for taking this lad out.
  10. Bulldog. Can't remember what model it is called but it has the semi pointed blade. I used to take a traditional spade shaped blade but in stoney soil I found the pointed one is better. Years ago I used to use, army type entrenching spades, but they are not up to deep prolonged digs in stoney soil.
  11. I agree with you on this one socks, but I do think it is a bit of an over reaction to what I think is meant to be a bit of Saturday night fun. I certainly hope no one falls out about it. I personally Like the way that the 4 nations have their own geographical borders but in the majority of cases we all work as one. I am also wise enough to understand that you won't stop banter between nations, Footy teams, or any other groups of people. When it goes to far, and hopefully it won't, that is when it comes unacceptable, but I am not a lover of the pc brigade who wish to stifle free speech. (and
  12. I like Simon whitehead books, not at home at mo, and can,t remember its name, but he is a good read.
  13. Hey. As usual a cracking write up. I was living the day as I read it. Nice countryside you have there and a damm good bag.
  14. I recommend mark 3 and I can't fault it.
  15. Like your two tone nets have you made them yourself? I do my poke nets the same way with 5 rows either end a different colour. Nice to hear no myxy. Nice pic mate.
  16. Sounds like you had a great day out with good results. As a kid I loved to shoot bolted rabbits with my bolt action webley .410, but as I got older I have gone more for the nets. They both have a role though. Nice read.
  17. At least on the battlefield, all of our troops can and do fight as one country, and probably are grateful for all the different skills that the four nations pull together with. Unfortunatly on our streets, a minority sometimes ruin this harmony.
  18. Did you hear about the bigot who hates all things English? He makes a good living in the Concreting business, because almost everything in the City depends on this industry. It's just a pity that reinforced concrete was invented by W.B. Wilkinson in Newcastle, England. Our bigot's home uses electric power generated by steam turbines, which were invented by Sir Charles Parsons. Many of his home appliances use electric motors, which were invented by Londoner Michael Faraday. These range from vacuum cleaners, the invention of Englishman Hubert Booth, to sewing machines, invented by Englishman Ch
  19. It happens. Didnt see any very young ones the last few times out, but I have seen some that are not quite full grown.
  20. Its not the amount of bunnies, its the amount of fun you had!
  21. Excuse my ignorance, but how is this disease transmitted, I have no experience of it, although I have read about it.
  22. When I find a ferret that would have access to a milkman in the wild, I will give them milk. Until then I steer clear of it. However, to answer your question, I do occasionally give them eggs, and my rational for this, is that they would probably eat these after raiding ground nests they come across. It's interesting tho to hear what other people do and I am not trying to say that I am right.
