  1. If they can see it, they can catch it, simple. This is like an argument over different chokes and shot sizes. Gazehound, sighthound, I wonder where these names originated from Get out there and enjoy whatever works for you!
  2. BASC..... and never go without insurance. It could cost you your house and everything you own, if you have an accident......seriously!
  3. Mmmmmmm....................... What the feck are you shooting? SG lay in layers of 3 in a 12 gauge, I'm guessing the next size up would have 12 pellets instead of 9. Why dont you drop down to special SG or SSG. Its pellets that kill. It doesnt matter what you use though, if your aim is not good you won't hit the target.
  4. Mike. Further to the last, I found this article interesting, when considering buying a 16" or 21" barrel. It shows how little difference there is in MV. It doesnt account for down range accuracy though. http://www.bullberry.com/HMRdata.html
  5. It will very slightly affect the velocity, but should not effect the accuracy for normal hmr ranges out to 200. My mate has an anchutz and it shoots as well as my 16" CZ, for normal shooting. My 16" drops the mv from 2550fps to 2477fps average. Hope this is of some help.
  6. I knock the primer out of a cartridge, chock the rifle and do it that way. I have used a laser one, but imo any method of bore sighting, is only good enough to get you on paper. Even when using a collimater to confirm zero, they are not as precise as reality testing, but they do have a place, if you think the scope has been knocked. Hope this is of some use to you.
  7. Good thread, and its nice to see no pratts coming on, slating either of your views.
  8. Still a great pic, what camera and lens are you using please?
  9. Interesting write up and great pics. The one with your dog looking right into the ferrets face from a few inches is a cracker!

Seriously pal. These animals do more good than harm IN YOUR GARDEN. I accept they steal eggs in the laying season, but the good they do, removing slugs and other small insects in the garden is superb. If you can put up with them, and your livelyhood, doesn't hang in the balance with their existence, leave them be. the reason i want them gone is because the dogs bark when they're in the garden,it's all flagged anyway so f**k knows why they want to come here. Chicken wire the garden then so they cannot get in. The chances are your garden just happens to be on their nightly jaunt.

Show em your feckin video on enslavement............they will never come back!!!
  16. Good pics for the rest of us, and a great day out for the kids, with a good bag.
  17. Realistically Duncan, to get those group sizes with most rifles, people are mainly talking about from a bipod or other rest (sandbag etc) and prone or from bench/support. There are to many variables otherwise. The small group sizes quoted just give an indication of what the rifle, ammo, firer, combination IS capable of. All of the long range corvids and rabbits I shoot with my CZ are from prone and bipod or other support, (over 150m) and any shots less than that, I will use a bipod where I can. This is for the simple reason- I am there to kill vermin, preferably with every shot taken.
  18. It just seems expensive. Please don't take offence but I bought just over 100 loose 28bore cartridges at game fair this year and I was only charged a tenner, because they came from broken boxes. I,m only paying 6 quid a box for new ones, and the local clay club sells 20bore carts less than that.
  19. Last one is my favorite. Have you seen the latest Wildlife photographer of the year pics, that were on the sky news website today, some of them are awesome!
  20. My young lad has managed to bag a couple with his 28bore, from a foot or so away, but it was in february. We were just sitting in a hide waiting for crows, with alot of mole hills in front of us. I never expected to get any but he snook out of the hide quietly and on the "second" push up of the soil, he fired. What was supprising was that there was hardly any damage to them.
  21. Nothing better than passing on your knowledge and experience to another person. He WILL remember what you have shown him for the rest of his life, and hopefully you will be mates for many a happy outing
  22. What a good day, its great for the kids, as long as they want to come. She'll be chinning them soon!! Is that an old Mk 1 box and hemp nets, I can't tell from the pics? Its funny how people do things differently and I suppose thats what make it a little interesting on forums like this, but I never reach for my spade until at least 10 mins in one spot, I always hope they bolt them first. Mind you, I dont know how many dead rabbits get left behind doing this. Nice little write up.
