  2. IF ONLY. DAYS GONE BY NEVER WILL THE WORKING [EARTH DOG] PLUMMER SINGLE HANDED DOG BISTOW US AGAIN, NICE PICTURE youd be surprised alli, ive a bitch here thats having a very good season, not the best bitch in the country by any means or even in my kennell, doing the job though, had a few digs to a 11 month 3/4 bred son of her as well lately-coming on very well the dog in the picture is a fine strong looking dog,if plummers are lacking some quality then maybe an outcross of good digging patterdale blood is what they need..Im sure there are plenty plummer terriers out there well cap
  3. same thing as long as its not show bred shite.Your obviously happy working dogs with "no" bull terrier blood, other people like it-each to their own..This argument could go on all day
  4. the blind dog orginally came from carrickonshannon and went to waterford and from waterford to cork and then he as retired back to new ross Thats correct,P K dought the Blind dog one evening on a farm in leitrim. He was passing the area on his way home from somewhere further north. He later sold on the dog. Blind Dog was called Butcher at the time PK bought him. He was probably about 3 or 4 yrs old. He was mostly Nuttall blood. His father was a dog called Tiny bred from a dog called Jetson and a bitch called Pitch. Jetson and Pitch both came directly from B Nuttall. Butcher's dam was half N
  5. If the right kind of bull terrier(i.e not a K.C breed) is used ,it can only add to a strain of terrier.Even using game apbts half the litter at least will be too big,or dont have the instinct to go to ground..However game or worthwhile a strain of terrier is <<it hasnt been continually tested under cajun rules for 120 years..
  6. hello there are many badger in my countury ,maybe i caught about 60 badger , 13kg ,15kg, 19kg, 25kg , i heard my friend talk me that he catch 30kg badger , but i have not seen 25kg over yet . badger is small in the spring ,but they are grow twice in order to sleep in the winter . This post is brilliant it always interesting to see how different people live in other parts of the world and all the things they are allowed to do and we are not. We are supposed to be a free country it makes me laugh free i think not. Yes you are right (FOOD FOR THOUGHT) I do not know if many kno
  7. fine strong looking hounds, what part of ireland are you in, and is the second dog "dan" beagle/welsh hound bred. yours in sport john
  8. try to do your best training it yourself, youll get a lot more satisfaction out of it and every dog is a learning experience.(train them one at a time),from what ive seen of cockers they seem frantic to please their owners.
  9. well then the resuce place is run by and idiot. a home is a home and most working ones are better than your average pet home. work it anyway, whos to know, its YOUR dog. Its crueller not to work a dog thats been bred for it generation upon generation,,i really cringe when i see "its me or the dog" type programmes where people want their jack russell cured of totally natural behaviour like pulling on the lead when its scents rabbits.they should have got a shih tzu or better still a teddy bear.
  10. GET A PATT GOOD ALLROUND DOG as apure digging dog id go with the patterdale,as an all rounder a plummer takes some beating

  12. Id say it would be some beast allright ,probably impossible to traiin though,I think i remember reading somewhere that the greyhound shares a surprisingly large amount of genes with the european wolf.
  13. id tend to agree- pups could end up lab/bedlington ,pointer /whippet or any other possible weird combination of ancestors.A full pointer would be a better choice if you do intend to go down that road..I think labrodor blood would bring too much bulk to a 22 inch bitch.
  14. Had a springer once that would turn back into a 6 month old pup again at the sight of the gun,she ended up living to 21
  15. id say theyd want to be about 120 years old,i think the popularity of the kerry blue led to its demise as a worker if it ever was one.My grandfather (dead a good while) told me his best earth dog when he was young was a kerry blue x beagle. They were a guard dog of legendary viciousness allright.
  16. nice dog hagan ,is it a first cross?
  17. you mention that you are away a bit, maybe the dog is jealous of attention you get from your missus or to put it another way when youre at home maybe the pack structure is upset or something.Does it give your wife problems when you are not there.
  18. interesting thread, which dogs do people think have been the most influential sires/dams over here down through the years.
  19. yes it the collar your digging to not the dog the lack of experience up to now isnt a big deal,if its in them its in them,in fact its a lot better than overmatching a dog at too young an age.
  20. yeah, bred a 2 year old plummer to her half brother-pups starting to work now.the one bitch out the litter is supposed tobe very good.Dug to a dog out of it today that a friend has,did well.Id about 12 or 14 good digs to the bitch and the dog had seen nothing(he was a bit too big as well but a bold c**t).Theyre about 11 months now. so id say go with your gut,if it seems like a good idea to yourself then go for it.
  21. good post, youd see in greyhounds the whole time, often the 2nd best dog out of the litter makes the best stud dog.i dont know why that is,maybe a cheaper price attracts more bitches or maybe 1 copy of a particular gene makes a derby winneer and 2 copies of it make an inferior racedog but a better stud dog.
  22. i probably would as well,it would be as close as possible to what you originally wanted to do,but just because 2 dogs are off the same breeding dosent mean they are of the same bloodline-i.e they could throw very different pups.
