I agree that Eye colours are purely cosmetic, but certain cosmetic traits point to 'Ancestry'. I am not talking about how they are put together necessarily or thier Show worthiness, but certain 'Family' traits which come out in the better individuals. One example is in 'Honeybunch' bred Bulldogs, they have a Family trait of having a strip of black Fur run a third of the length of the Tails and a black Mask. Not all, but quite a few of the tightly bred 'Honeybunch' stuff does.......looking a lot like she did. The majority marked that way seem to be 'keepers', could be Kennel blindness but we ar

they are getting difficult enough to find in ireland (i.e no american or aussie bloodlines) .The mating you put up is line bred to a very good bitch.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZZ4gOw_y2k video didnt load properly, search youtube for 1990 irish greyhound derby Hello Tinytiger, Thanks for the video. But why did they start to cross the Irish dogs with the american or Aussie lines? coz to what i have seen and read Irish Greyhounds is bit faster than Aussie but not sure about american dogs never had them so cant say anything. This white male in my avatar is a very very good sprint

youd see a few litters of them crossed with border collies on donedeal, the farmers journal etc.,I wouldnt mind putting one over a big ghound bitch sometime..Is there supposed to be dingo in the backbreeding of them?
-
when i was young a man nearby had an accidental litter of a 3/4 bred wheaten hound dog over a bitch very similar to your own-he gave them all swimming lessons bar one-turned out a cracking rabbit dog and caught a hare once (hunted up and given no law obviously).I dont think the dog went to ground although it was well small enough.(13-14 inches tts)

tinytiger replied to beef-unit's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Pre-ban a bitch that only worked fox would not be kept in my experience, Some of these bitches (and dogs) would be handed down to hunt terrier men. If they bred from these bitches it was for there own use. They had no problem using baying/bolting terriers. To say that these men weakened the terriers we have today might be overstating things. There were 2 grades of terrier for 2 types of quarry. I agree with Fat man that badger dogs were kept away from fox. I have seen several occasions where a small earth stinking of fox would be skipped over. We were after different quarry and would n -
Interesting read,id say the theory about them coming from flanders via hessian mercenaries is pure shite though-they are too much like a wheaten ,appearance and workwise not to be from the same origin..

Glad to here bobs line has survived somewhere as youd want to be sherlock holmes to find a greyhound going back to him today, i think his sisters bred on well in the states though..A dog off something like flying penske would have plenty stamina i.m.o .

IF YOU KEEP BREEDING LURCHER TO LURCHER YOU GET REGRESSION & LOSE SHARPNESS & PACE. COL TED WALSH STATED THIS YEARS AGO THAT YOU NEEDED TO BREED IN PURE SIGHTHOUND EVERY FEW GENERATIONS. YOU WILL SEE MORE OF THIS AS THE LURCHER GENE POOL DIMINISHES UNDER CURRENT LEGISLATION OPT-Dam straight as long as the breedings taking place are utilizing the right dogs, especialy the Greyhound side. I BRED AN OPEN CLASS BITCH, & I ONLY GOT HER BECAUSE SHE WAS TO GO TO IRELAND TO BE MATED & COULDNT BECAUSE OF FOOT & MOUTH. I CALLED IN A HUGE FAVOUR & GOT HER,BIG STRONG WELL B

i thought blackmarket ireland was a comedy watched it to see what they were waffling about, they went to a whole pile of effort to talk pish, after all who gives a shite about foreign cigs anyone remember when either rte or tv3 had a program on dog fighting and they filmed cages of ferrets and gamefowl belonging to the "alleged" dog fighters and their "experts" then claimed the ferrets and gamefowl were kept to "bait" the pitt bulls, amount of pish they dole out to joe public is ridiculous they had a "pupy farm" on one tv3 programme that was 2 yorkshire terriers ,not a pup in

MOUSIES LINES OF LAKELANDS
tinytiger replied to BULLX RUNNER's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Too exspensive for a working terrier, blah blah blah.. All im going to say is- If people are willing to spend hundreds/thousands on a terrier, then people are going to breed for the money i kind of get what your saying, but a person would have to be seriously thick to get into breeding terriers/lurchers for money when theres fanny licker breeds like poodles, yorkies etc that they could sell/breed/peddle easier. -
welcome to the forum,do you use your jagdterriers for earthwork
-
the biggest talent any terrier can have is the ability too work too ground consistantly if they hav nt got this trait there second rate they may do a job for someone else ie ratting hunting for rabbits fair play if your happy you feed it but too say a plummer is wasted on earth work only dont make me laugh if the breed owners would get act together and breed the plummers that do work too ground between each other then and only then may the plummer turn a corner and be viewed as more than a wannabe imo. well said
