  1. Don't think it was that drastic, depending how close you lived to hunting grounds that held deer, a couple of toes taken off, or hamstrung, something along those lines, as far as my memory recalls what I read years ago. Couple of people on here will correct me if otherwise. Sandymere is normally spot on with running dog history, as I'm sure a couple of others are, but he came to mind first
  2. Nice quartet of dogs there bpr, are they all pure whips? Fawn/white pup is a non ped... The rest are peds ... All very nice dogs mate, but those two black young uns are exactly my cup of tea, belters
  3. Nice quartet of dogs there bpr, are they all pure whips?
  4. f**k all wrong with mousehounds mate, whatever their size lol, nice pup
  5. I'd agree with that, and that's how our bitch is bred, sire 1st x collie/grey 25", dam 1st x deer/grey 26 1/2". Was thinking she'd level out around the 25" mark, but finished at almost 29", and I'm glad now that she did, never got her for ferreting, lamping and daytime, and her height has been a bonus, she doesn't struggle on anything
  6. Bit of a read that mate, but yeah, quite interesting, but don't tell banter, I think he's in denial ,
  7. Well , f**k it, all this theorising is doing my head in!
  8. Birddog's already given a rundown of the dog's qualities, drive being one of them, I think the dog sounds a very good worker and definitely worth putting into a line of lurchers. And I don't think a 40% failure rate would happen, depending on what type of work the resulting pups would be worked at. If people are talking about fox, 40% failure rate sounds about average to me
  9. I do, and loads of others who aren't up their saluki x, hare coursing mates' arses! been a long time from iv been up an arse Glad to hear it lol

  11. As above, definitely a worker
  12. Horses AND a mad cow in the same field, fuking hell that's bad luck! lol
  13. I love that analogy, ugly munters are a joy to ride Also there are some really good looking dogs built right that are also fabulous workers, I know which I'd prefer
  14. Lol, seen a couple mates dogs years ago hitting headstones etc, hard enough to put em out of action for several weeks. Never go near the places with any of my dogs. Rabbits in graveyards etc are better, and more safely, taken by snaring, ferreting or air rifle
  15. Nice pup, keep him on lead in a cemetery though, disaster for a running dog
  16. No, you don't. You need good base lines, but breeding lurcher to lurcher, however good they work, is a lottery. It always has been and always willbe UNLESS you know the exact lines of each - but that is more selective breeding than just worker to worker. I despair sometimes of the general ignorance that is shown. I have bred my strain true for over 30 years. Not as a mney maker, just to replace my own dog when needed. If people understood breeding and genetics you wouldnt see so much claptrap as that written in the previous 14 pages. There are some good posts, but you can spot the "I am a b

  18. Not really a saluki x fan, but been following this thread and all these pups are crackers, but red bull's black and brindle/tan pup is a belter
  19. They started bowing at about 8 weeks mate... Ok now though, what did the vet say it was due to, and remedy? Didn't take her to the vets pal. Just stopped feeding her high protein complete food.
