    You've just described what umpteen types can do, I've seen a few 1st x collie/greys that can run thick cover and hunt in woodland etc and feckin lots of dogs will hunt with no lamp. Yep, only yesterday saw a hancock bred bitch going through some tidy cover, and f**k me if I haven't seen, and owned, some purebred whippets that used their noses like a beagle! Not much coat about em, but did that stop em ploughing through some very thick cover/brambles? Did it f**k! And they came out wihout being cut to pieces

    The proportion of hancock pups making the grade will be no more or less than any other litter of c/gh being produced out of un proven, non working parents. As for the dhx failure rates etc.. I have written stuff out.. then thought better of it and deleted so many times that its doing my head in.. A very frustrating thread to read as someone with 2 fully working dh lurchers Lol after a few of my own unwise posts recently I've deciced to give it a break and just read other posts, rather than just charge in with some of my heat of the moment thoughts! No disrespect intended to anyone . @

    Having to adjust YOUR ways and life to suit the dog isn't being a dogman in my eyes. More like role reversal, f**k that. I'm far from being thick, but don't fancy being practically a dog psychologist just to get out to do a bit with the dogs. And I know there some good saluki bred dogs about, but are they the ones with JUST saluki, or ones with say collie for example in as well?

    . The dog I mentioned, owned by an old mate I haven't seen for years, was broken coated and like you say, you could literally pour water onto his coat and with a couple of shakes he'd be dry. What put me off them more than coat though was that when we'd be out lamping and he'd miss, you'd be waiting about 10-15 minutes for the f****r to come back, and needless to say, we wouldn't see much for a while after lol.     I think you're right about the ban mate, can never see a repeal happening. A quick question for you mate, as I see you obviously like and own bedlington x's, I've not had much to do with them really,mainly due to the poor coats on the ones I have seen, well, terrible would be a better word than poor, are the majority of them like that these days? I've only ever seen one, about 30 years ago, that had a proper water/weatherproof coat. I don't do many shows etc, so wouldn't see many anyway and don't see hardly any of this x about from my neck of the woods, south wales

    I've got a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 beddy now. His body is like a pure greyhound and when wet (he's rough haired) you can reall see his shape. The Beddy has given him good feet, outstanding nose, great coat, plenty of stamina and he has retained the speed. I fancied the same with collie a while back. Really like the 3/4 greys. is there any cross u don't fancy ? Lol I've fancied most breeds at some point, i'm quite open minded unlike some on here who are just set on one breed and say all others are shite I like a few x's, but not bull, saluki, or bedlington lol.     yes they crossed two smooths and got feathered wont work the other way round something to do with colouration and pigment of the nails still doesnt matter as brindle greyhounds are faster than other coloutrs anyway not sure about in the snow though i herd about that toe nail thing ,think if the nails are green they aint pure Are 1st season brindle mousehounds allowed to enter?

    @ buster, the greyhound you worked must've been an ex track dog, and a poor one at that. f**k all wrong with a greyhound's brain, stamina, feet or nose. Too many people on here say the same as you, and 99% of em have tried ex track dogs. Normally they'll be well past 4 years of age and will only have known kennel life and after schooling, normally just one run around a track a week. Any dog, however bred, isn't going to be up to much in the field after spending at least 4 years on such a routine. Try working a greyhound that's been brought on like you would a lurcher from a pup, people wo

    I think it's just down to the individual dog's character. The two best dogs I've seen have been a 1st x deer/grey and a 1st x collie/grey x 1st x deer/grey, both superb dogs on ALL quarry on the lamp and both good daytime hare dogs, this was 80's 90's, just in case I upset a tree hugger!

    The deer/grey x collie/grey were, are and always will be MUCH better than bull x's, and there are still a few good litters of this type available fairly frequently, if you have a bit of a look around

    19" and 15kg. Definate rabbit dog size. a little limited when lamping, but I put that down to lack of height on the rougher ground we have around here. I've had similar dogs before, but bred down from the grey rather than the whippet and they excelled at lamping anywhere. @ paulsmithy, this is the exact point I was making about taller dogs on rough ground
