  2. Bent down to check some rat poison in a drain pipe just as i got my face in line with the pipe a toad jumped out Ended up with me falling backwards onto a shitty floor Always give my bait containers a kick now before checking them
  3. Looking to buy 100 snares with tealers if possible. Although a lesser ammount would still be acceptable
  4. i would longnet Worth a try if you can get behind them
  5. I also work a small albino jill. If the rabbits are moving about nothing better-think ive dug on her once this season. At the moment the rabbits seem to be toughing it out under ground so the hobs have been used. Plenty of digging
  6. Not if they are keen gardeners I would ask
  7. Never stop learning in this game
  8. Ferrets like company.Playful little beasties. Shredded paper and shavings in the run does for mine
  9. try and give you a sencible answer pal .. if they see the moon big and bright in the night sky , its something unusualll for them ,, so they howl , daytime . /and night this may sound soft .. but it may have something to do with a change in gravitational pull ..as in the tides maybe dogs sence it .. probebly just writen aload of crap but i did try ..lol Thats what i would have assumed Isnt there people called lunatics. They kick off when the moon is full.
  10. ferreting is how i started mine But i also had them chasing tennis balls and retreiving soft toys on the lamp. Used to train them on the local playing fields If the recall is spot on you should be ok. Of course there will be others that differ. Its up to you really Be patient have a set routine and time will do the rest
  11. Once the gorse has been destroyed the rabbits and all other wild life that use its cover dissapear for good. Change tactics Lamp, snare,or longnet at night if conditions are right They got to be feeding somwhere
  12. Yes I've been using it a long time before I was told it was a Carrick Bend pretty much fool proof in that it tightens and locks onto itself Y.I.S Leeview Im led to believe that asingle knot will suffice on nylon twines when using this knot Looking for a second opinion I usually use the sheetbend but would learn this knot if there was an advantage
  13. Anyone use a knot called a carrick bend- i think thats how its prounced
  14. I think theres a bloke who uses this site. He is called longnetter. From what i have read he is the man for purse nets at a sensible price Try your local agricultural market for ferrets should be plenty of kits around soon. I dropped on two mark 1 locators three collars and loads of nets at our nearest market. Have a chat with anybody who is selling ferrets or looks like their into hunting.you will be supprised what can come from it. Also their are plenty of lads from your neck of the woods on this site who might beable to help you out. GOOD LUCK
  15. Same here. Last weekend we had to use the hobs as they wouldnt shift for the jill and she is no sticker. Fair bit of digging involved but fortunatley shallow. End of FEB will do it for me
  16. Ohhhhh the memories........does anyone else think the hash these days isn't as strong as it used to be??? Whats the problem? You never seen a dog hunt anything only chase stuff? I've never seen 2 yes 2 I repeat 2 dogs sneaking up on a hare!!! From my experience dogs are jealous and no f*****g way would any of my dogs slowly walk up to a hare when another dog was on a lead nevermind sneaking up beside it!!! I havent put a statement on here to be ridiculed for it. Your piss taking as back fired on you ,very witty but it shows the true extent of your arrogance/ignorance
  17. Moved to a new town in 1974. The neighbour had a lurcher that basically fed its self. Anyway three of us decided to have a walk around. We took my dog and the neighbours dog tagged along. The dogs put a hare up.Personally i would say neither dog was capable of catching a hare single handed. But what happenned next astounded me. The two dogs started circleing the hare. The dogs kept decreasing the distance between them and the hare. The hare seemed confused and unsure so stayed put.Eventually the hare made a bolt for freedom and was caught. It reminded me of india
  18. Another large haul Bet you and the dogs sleep well tonight. I usually ache all over for a day or two when ferreting on banksides.
  19. Dont over do it Little and often on close rabbits that are a good way out Sounds to me like the dog is proggressing, just a matter of time Dont get carried away you might end up frustrating the dog. After all he is only a youngster
  20. Without doubt my fondest memorys were when i used to visit my dads cousin. Authority might say that this man, over many years had cultured an unwholesome and intolerable obsession that involved catching anything edible that swam ran or flew. On a personal level i was facsinated by his way of life. As a person he was as loud and as colourful as the cage birds that he kept in his front bedroom, kitchen, and anywhere else he could find room.On the downside he was as fragile as the pint pot that held his fate. What a character
  21. I will second that.... and good advice to Seen it first hand- very nasty
  22. You have got to stay on top of a head strong dog from day one. Vocally and with the use of a check lead. If you give them there head early on thjey will take the piss
  23. Went out friday- blowing a gale.Caught nine. Not the best conditions to hear whats going on,but never the less quite productive. You not got a hunting partner.
  24. If you can get between your rabbits and safety iwouldnt mind slipping long. The rabbit will be run back towards you If you get one that goes away from the lamp i turn off and whistle back when the beam is no longer serving its purpose I wouldnt walk rabbits up for them to run past me with the lamp up there arse showing them the way home
