  1. plenty greyhound inthe make up for them hard rabbits Saluki/whippet/greyhound collie/greyhound bull/greyhound does the job for me. Long slips on lamp shy rabbits that are on there way home . Mates dog wont even try on them. Can miss one or two easy ones though by going in to fast Not that we get much sport on easy stuff where we hunt
  2. Never cooked it Just ate it cold with vinegar and pepper Nice with a few chips and processed peas.
  3. Sound Enough is as good as a feast Had three quickfire bolters meself today Makes a nice change quick hour out instead an allday job
  4. Spun nylon is a good bit of kit. Nice to work with on snaggy ground. Mine are probebly 4z. Never tried 10z.Although there is probebly a call for them in bramble etc
  5. Very good outcome mate Nice few rabbits there
  6. Dont put ayoung ferret on rats I start my young uns on small burys that hold rabbits. Can be a slow process but the penny usually drops after a few outings Patience is the secret Dont force them. I usually start them at 6 month
  7. No its not essential Alocator and a load of good quality purse nets will bring the bacon home Noot forgeting a quality ferret or two GOOD LUCK
  8. Be careful mate end of season rabbits can be a stern test for a young dog Sounds like frustration Think i would ease off a bit Maybe back to basics again with a bit off ferreting thrown in Needs a few easier kills Be plenty of easy ones about in amonth or two .
  9. Thats some nice looking ground deepearth Armchair ferreting Bet your digs are shallow as well
  10. The small hob we use is a cracker . But we seem to dig a lot more on him than the jill. Think we have only dug on her twice this season. She is ideal for winkling one or two out of awkward situations such as under oak trees steel containors or stable floors Its a combination that seems to work for us
  11. Covered in scratches from weekend. Diving on escaping rabbits in the middle of brambles certainly leaves its mark. Funny thing that adrenalin
  12. Just a bit of craic mate No worries
  13. The varied tool box thats a good descripton. I certainly wouldnt want to be digging all the time only to find rabbits with there backend eaten off. Leave this to the macho men. Also i like a ferret that allows you to draw the rabbit fromthe dig while he is still on without taking a lump out of you F
  14. Had a run out with a mate this morning. Started out at seven oclock and got to the location just as it was breacking dawn. Took the one dog two ferrets and about forty nets. The wood that held the rabbits was at the top of a steep incline.I felt knackered by the time we got to the wood. It was well worth it though - the veiws were stunning. About eight rabbits had been caught inthis clump of trees about two weeks earlier. So i thought to myself if we can repeat this score we will be doing well. Netted up the first set and entered the jill.Afew minutes later we had o
  15. I had two with a fair bit of black lab in them. The dog was very handy , the bitch was somthing special. Fur feather retreived off water.very good nose, bushed like spaniels. Never actually trained them just took them out and it came natural. Seemed to me that they had this inbuilt longing to please Not the fastest dogs ive had but for mooching they were quality.
  16. The owner is asked whether he wants to take it further. Tresspass is a civil matter. When in pursuit of game it becomes a criminal matter. Couldnt comment on the fox senario thats a rare one Bear in mind this is only a simple summary. The whole subject can be a legal minefield
  17. Yes its bad news .The dog bolts sometimes it can end in tradgedy if there is a road close to.
  18. A rabbit that wants to bolt will kick a small gill off and make good is escape Three or four of this type would allow you to fly more and dig less
  19. Most lurchers will serve the purpose. Ihave a dog that loves the ferreting game. He wouldnt have been my first choice as he stands 25 tts However god loves a tryer. Hes certainly made me have a more open minded approach as regards to what these dogs are capable of
  20. The rabbits can sometimes bounce off a net with minimum bagging especially if you get a few at the same point in the net
  21. There would be one hundred yards of netting used to make a fifty yard longnet at one hundred percent bagging
  22. just the two rabbits this morning . Did me and the dog enjoy it. You bet we did. No numbers where i hunt just have to work a bit harder to find one Also you are a lot more switched on when searching for bolt holes and setting nets correctly God forbid if you miss a rabbit.
  23. Shouldnt be a problem alurcher will soon learn what is required of it day or night. Started mine daytime first, ferreting, At night i was sending them off on the lamp to retreive tennis balls.before i put them on live rabbits. As said recall has to be good
  24. Thanks millet I have used nets without the bottom ring . Catch percentage seems to drop. Them rings from agouti are pretty weighty for their size
  25. Fair enough Although personally i like to knit a bottom ring in
