  4. Been up to me ankles in manure. Be erecting a greenhouse tomorrow.
  5. You would need to buy a mark1 collar this would probebly set you back another 40 quid. 100 QUID altogether I think its a ot of money unfortunatley thats wat they are making Bought my first one in the 1970"s for £17.50
  6. We had a day like this on sunday They just would not bolt- even with the heavy artillary. Deep or right inthe middle of the hedge was were they were lying up. Proper hardcore ferreting. Ended the session with just three.
  7. They could come out the otherside of the fence I personally wouldnt go with longnets The rabbitts will hole hop and make loads of exta work for your ferrets. One in the net is caught there and then
  8. Forgot to add this was a disused railway Is yours? If not the one might have the solution
  9. Your going to need a few good ferrets Also you are going to need a ruck of purse nets At least one person who is a seasoned ferreter - the more expeirience the better A steadydog that knows the score would certainley save time and leg work Did a good mile of railway batter for the council few years ago Luckily they were shallow sets . There was three of us on this job Took us about a fornight to go up one side and down the other One man would clear vegitation from around the holes Then me and another lad would net up until all the nets were used up Enter
  10. Happens in all walks of life. More so than ever these days. Parasites feeding off decent folk
  11. Wash the russells bed and let the lurcher have it for keeps. Dont wash the pups bed and let the russell have that one. Only a shot in the dark but it might buy you some time until the pups natural scent is has built up through out the house
  12. YEP thats an excellent return on a fiver
  13. Sound mate Thanks for the post Enjoyed it
  14. ferrets have always been under priced . free up to a fiver. Your in proffit after the first good days ferreting once yove got em rolling.
  15. Brothers got a laguna whippet pup He seems to be frightened of letting it off. Trouble is the less it has its freedoms now the worse it will go on recall. Better taking them places where there are no other distractions. Take him out as much as you can. Even when you are in the garden let him have is head then every now and again call him in and give him a fuss. Should help on the bonding up as well. At the moment i have been taking the whippet out with my two. There recall is good so he just follows them and comes in. Trouble is the pup as started to bond
  16. We have permission on a couple of farms which are rented out from the council
  17. Sometimes its not the actual jump that un does the dog Working a dog at night that jumps when in full flight on rabbit is not for the faint hearted. Ground that falls away sharpley on landing can sometimes bring a run to an unexpected end. hoof divits can also play there part in bringing down a born jumper. My dogs jump when i need to climb over a gate or fence. But that full on harum scarum stuff. Well thats somthing else.
  18. Wondered why i hadnt seen any of whins posts latley gutted. Broke the mold when whin popped out
  19. All that digging would have certainly kept you warm
  20. I wouldnt be to concerned the ferret is very young Next season should see a very different animal
  21. Take the meat off the bone cut it into cubes and shallow fry it with home cured bacon fat Add a dessert spoonful of plum jam. Dont over cook it Eat it straight from the pan You wont be dissappointed I was never keen on it until a freind cooked it this way
  22. A good ferret wont enter a set that has no scent A bad ferret wont come out of a set that has no scent. The rest come some where in between
  23. My bitch used to bugger off and hunt on her own every time another dog came with us She was brilliant when working alone. A very dominant and independant nature. She just wanted everything for herself and to please me. When she couldnt acheive this through other dogs working around her she would start to do her own thing somewhere else
  24. Had a pair of what i would describe as mongerel lurchers Dont know the exact breeding of them althouh i do know there was deerhound and a fair bit of lab and maybe a touch of bull inthem Very game animals. They would enter any cover and work all day. Even getting down on there bellies and dragging themselves through tight low bramble. I would be looking for a small type lurcher with plenty of bushing types in him A complete one off to suit your purpose
  25. Strange one Snatching the ferret up can bring it on Also lack of rabbits in the burys can sometimes make them play up Just a couple of things i have come across before Hope it helps
